BREGMAN, STANLEY IRWIN A Washington lawyer who was a close confidante to both Vice President Hubert Humphrey and Vice President Walter Mondale, died on May 8, 2014 in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 83. Mr. Bregman was born on March 20, 1931, in Washington, D. C. as the son of Bo and Sadie Bregman, who were Russian Jewish immigrants. His career in law and politics began when he was elected President of the Young Democrats of America during the Stevenson-Kefauver campaign. During Humphrey's failed attempt to win the Democratic presidential nomination in 1960 at the Convention held in Chicago, Bregman worked the floor to round up votes for Humphrey. While representing Robert Short of Minneapolis, he negotiated the purchase of the team and later the hiring of Ted Williams as General Manager. In 1969 the law firm was restructured as Bregman, Abell, and Kay. The second named partner, Tyler Abell, had held high-level positions in the Johnson Administration in the Postmaster General's office and as Chief of Protocol in the Department of State. Mr. Bregman's enthusiasm for baseball and politics was inherited by his sons, Benjamin and Samuel, both of whom played baseball for the Lobos at the University of New Mexico. His grandson, Alex Bregman, is now the shortstop for the Louisiana State University baseball team and was the national Freshman of the year in 2013. He wed Sandra Kneifl in 1957 and they were married for thirty-five years. Upon returning home he entered the work force at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in the mail room and eventually became a Division Leader for Communications and Records Management (CRMO), as well as Lobbyist. He was a loyal, diligent and compassionate employee and loved every minute of his 40 + career with LANL. In 1964 he married the love of his life, Emilie Jane Barrone; raised three daughters, Cynthia Christianna, Deana Gilberta and Bianca Camille. Along with Emilie he was instrumental in the upbringing of their three grandchildren whom they considered their Dad, Christopher, Chrisianita "Tia" and Orion "Kiki". Loving, spoiling, and guiding them every step of the way. Gilbert was a dedicated, loving and funny son, grandson, brother, husband, father, cousin and friend. He cherished his days with his Papa Abel, Mama Teodora, Mama Bersa and all his many cousins, nephews, nieces, son-in-law, John Vincent Wertheim and his family and friends through the years. Gilbert also served as a Santa Fe County Commissioner, was a Great Democrat and a part time farmer, even raising with Emilie 5,000 chile plants in one season. He had a special devotion to the "Virgin Mother" and was a devout Roman Catholic. He found sanctuary in the Holy Rosary and in the recent years to EWTN. A proud New Mexican and American, Gilbert cherished and respected the land, acequias, rivers and "los pajaritos de Tata Dios". In his younger days he was an avid hunter and loved going on horseback to the wilderness. Public visitation will begin on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambe with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque. ROBB, PEGGY HIGHT Peggy Hight Robb, beloved wife of John D. Robb and mother, grandmother, great grandmother and talented artist died on May 8, 2014. Peggy was the devoted mother of John D. Robb, III, Celeste Robb-Nicholson, Ellen Bea Robb, Bradford Hight Robb, George Geoffrey Robb and David McGregor Robb. She dies leaving her loving husband of 68 years, and her children, as well as 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A native New Mexican, Peggy (Margaret Celeste Hight) was born in Gallup, NM, September 14, 1924. While first a wife and mother, she had a passion for painting and was known for her attention to form, color and light. The New Mexico landscape was the backdrop for her prolific career as an artist. Peggy earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of NM. Over her extraordinary career, painting in oil and acrylics, she showed her work in 18 national and international juried art exhibitions, including Paris and China. She also taught a course in drawing and painting at UNM for 21 years. When asked about her painting, she said: "I was born in a small town in New Mexico. This country of big sky, rugged mountains and broad panorama has strongly shaped my artwork. Each work is an adventure, an experience in medium, form and color. It is a celebration in response to my love of God's creation. These works are intended to evoke a joy and spiritual uplift in the viewer." Peggy found the world a beautiful place, and was devoted to nurturing that beauty through gardening and landscaping her home, treating each planting, (especially her father's roses) with tenderness, respect and joyful appreciation of its beauty. Her funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 am at Heights Cumberland Church, 8600 Academy NE, Albuquerque, NM. WHITE, RUTHERFORD "R.D." If you asked Rutherford D. White, who was 87 when he passed on May 6, 2014, who was the greatest of all time, he would not say Muhammad Ali. He would look at you crazy, with those huge eyes of his, wondering why you asked such a silly question and tell you that you were staring at the greatest. Born in Lexington, KY on September 30, 1926 to Rutherford Sr. and Marie Louise White, one year before his baby sister, Wilhelmina Leroy (deceased), R.D. (as he was known to everyone) knew he wanted to travel the world. He joined the Navy and got to stay in places he would never pay for on his own; because if you knew R.D., you know that he would try to finagle his way out of paying $15 for a hotel and try to convince people that sleeping in the car was just as good of an alternative (and boy was he convincing)! Maybe it was from his love of travel why his children would sing in his presence "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." Or maybe it was because where ever he laid his hat was, indeed, his home-as evidence by his son, Michael Wing and wife Barbara of Maryland; his daughters, Kathy Grace and Rene Grace of New Bedford, MA, daughter, Saundra Grace and husband Sidney Lawrence of Toledo, OH; and from his wife of 42 years, the girl that made him say "good googly-woogly!" when she walked into the room, the one that made him put a ring on it, Popie White, their two children, son, Dino White and wife Cynthia of Miramar, FL; and his youngest daughter, (I bet you thought the list would never end, huh?!), Melita White of Albuquerque, NM. If you thought he was proud of his children, you should hear him brag about his grandchildren, who, luckily, all carry his strong genes: Marlon and Marlo (and great granddaughter, Nola Marie), Sherrick, Dominga and DeVante', and he found a new love being a Papou to Kino (7), Kawika (4), and Amaya (not quite 2, but she will tell you she is). The 6'4" R.D. was a man that wore many hats: singer, dancer, crab eater, house fixer, story teller, jokester, mess talker, event remember-er (I swear he was better than Google), reminder for his mother-in-law and bosom buddy, 'Mama' Emilia, to put in her teeth, best cook this side of the Mississippi, and most handsome cat to ever look in a mirror. Unfortunately, there will be no more trips to visit his friends at Kirtland AFB pharmacy, where he volunteered for 15 years. There will be no more phone calls to his old friends back in Kentucky, or to his closest cousin, Vincent Price, to talk about his favorite Kentucky Wildcats, nor to his brother-in-law, Leon Leroy, who kept in touch devotedly every Saturday. Despite all of this greatness, the good Lord took him home and we will be holding a viewing and visitation for R.D. on Tuesday, 13, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Chapel, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church of West Albuquerque, 6400 Golf Course Road, NW. A reception will follow the services. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Rio Rancho, NM. One last request: R.D. was a practical man and not a fan of flowers, as evidence of him buying a dryer and freezer as a push present when his son, Dino, was born. In lieu of beautiful blossoms, we ask that you make a donation to First Baptist Church of West Albuquerque where R.D. attended every Sunday, lending his well-known, booming, baritone voice to the church choir. This is R.D.'s last party and nothing would put a smile more on his face than knowing his friends and family are getting together to celebrate his life and send him home to the Lord.
