WALLACE -- BONNIE ELLIOTT Age 60, passed away August 5, 2011. She was born on November 22, 1950 to John and Dorothy Elliott, in Los Angeles, California. She considered Albuquerque, NM, her home, where she lived with her immediate family for almost thirty years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Elliott. Bonnie is survived by her husband of nearly forty years, James Wallace. She is also survived by two sons, Scott and Eric, as well as Scott's wife, Stephanie and their son, Carter Noah. In addition, Bonnie is survived by her father, John (Ada); and by her siblings and their spouses, Calvin (Ginny), Warren (Hope), Bruce (Alice) and Joan (Warren); as well as fourteen nieces and nephews. In the last year, to say that Bonnie loved her time with little Carter is an understatement. She treasured their numerous happy hours together while they both enjoyed making soap bubbles, watching seed pods twirl to the ground and playing pretend picnic and serving each other tea and cookies. Carter beamed as he watched "grammy" play finger games and listened to her recite nursery rhymes. Bonnie enjoyed a full life, even though it was cut short. She loved to travel and truly cherished living in several locations across the country before settling in Albuquerque. Everywhere she lived, she established close ties with numerous friends. This was especially true with the various groups she either worked for or volunteered with in Albuquerque. She was an active participant in the PTA, serving as president at all levels of school her sons attended. Besides volunteering, she loved teaching preschool, as well as working at realty companies as a graphic artist. She started her own desktop publishing business, and became well-known for her skills in imaginative designs and her artistic talent. However, she was always the happiest and most rewarded for her work as Youth Director for Covenant Presbyterian Church. Her reward in this role was in establishing close and lasting bonds with so many young people who retained their contact with and love for her over the years. She had a profound impact on so many young lives by sharing her enthusiasm for life, her sense of humor, her joyous laughter and big hugs. Anyone who came to know Bonnie recognized that she was a unique individual with a special sparkle of life. Bonnie is much loved by many who will deeply miss her presence, but will find solace in knowing that they shared time with a precious soul who is now at peace and without pain. There will be a memorial service for Bonnie at 4:00 pm on August 27, 2011 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, located at 9315 Candelaria Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to CaringBridge.org, through which she kept contact with family and friends and received great joy and encouragement from those who wrote to her and visited her site. WALSTON -- JAMES BERKELEY On Thursday, August 18, 2011, the Lord could wait no longer and James Berkeley Walston, 91, returned to his easel in the sky. Born March 31, 1920 in Sioux City, Iowa, to Cecil and Grace Walston, James joins his brothers Milton and Oliver Walston, sister Agnes Stusse, daughter Janet Carol, and son Freddie Wayne in Heaven. When James wasn't ensuring mice-free kernels at Jolly Time Popcorn Company, he was illustrating his Senior Annual at Sioux City's Central High School. Shortly after graduating in 1938, James married LaVerne, embarking on the best journey of his life: 70 years of marriage. Along the way, James, a Seaman First Class, served on the USS Kershaw 176 in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. While on board, he was a champion Golden Glove boxer in the welterweight division. James worked as a draftsman for both Sioux Tools in Sioux City, Iowa and Beachcraft in Wichita, Kansas before being recruited by Sandia National Laboratories as a Graphic Designer. In December, 1956, James moved with LaVerne, and his daughters Bonnie Lou and Patricia Anne, to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Come rain or shine James was often seen driving his 1964 Karmann Ghia convertible around town, wearing his silver-banded hat and characteristic handlebar mustache. Whether streaking at family get-togethers, falling out of his chair laughing, singing with the player piano, or playing practical jokes on just about everyone, James brought witty enthusiasm, humor, and steadfast allegiance to all he encountered. Among those blessed to honor his memory include his wife LaVerne Walston; his brother Doug Walston; his daughter Bonnie Stewart, her husband Fred, and her children Robert and Ryan Miziker; his daughter Patricia Lewis, her husband Michael, and their children Dena Maddox, Shane, Christina and Jonathan Lewis; and his great grandchildren Campbell, Broderick, Mazzy, Twila, and Berkeley. Although slight in stature, he was known for his vast creativity, talent, loyalty, faith, and heart. Many called him James Berkeley, Jim, Daddy, Papa, Grandpa, Scotty, Tiger, Jimbo, Jimmy, and friend. No matter the name, the legacy of James Berkeley Walston will continue on a high note. WILLIAMS -- ELDRED LOWELL Wanda Williams said goodbye to the love of her life and the Williams sisters said goodbye to the best dad in the whole world on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Eldred "Willy" Williams grew up in Gallup, NM and went into the Navy on December 8, 1942 at the age of 15. He returned to Gallup after World War II and married Wanda, for what would be a 65 year marriage that was the very definition of love. Eldred is survived by his four daughters, Gloria Curry of Albuquerque, Judy Young of Albuquerque, Melody Everett of Estancia, NM and Holly Ruteshouser of Houston, TX; his sons-in-law, Joe Everett and Steve Ruteshouser; his seven grandchildren, Mark Johnson, Wilene Curry-Archibeque, Hillary Guenthner, Christopher Young, Travis Curry, Sean Ruteshouser and Anne Everett; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Archibeque, Sophia Archibeque, Carson Guenthner, Madeline Guenthner and Katelyn Johnson. Each of you held a very special place in his heart. Eldred was a self-made man who instilled not only the value of education in his daughters, but the value of integrity and putting your family before everything else. He graduated from college shortly before his two oldest daughters, with a degree in Accounting, and began his career with the Internal Revenue Service in Albuquerque. He would eventually retire from the IRS in Houston, TX. Willy was the life of any party and would captivate his audience with his funny stories about his childhood and the family he cherished. "Thanks, Dad, for filling our lives with laughter. If we seem to be laughing inappropriately, it is because you taught us to laugh through the pain. We love you more than life itself and will miss you every day." A gathering to celebrate Eldred's life will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011, 8:30 a.m., at French-Lomas Chapel. Ennichment with military honors will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eldred's memory to The New Mexico Veterans Integration Center (NMVIC) for homeless veterans at info@nmvic.org.
