Obituary for LAZARUS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday August 21, 2011

EUGENE "GENE" Peacefully left this world on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. He began his earthly journey on April 8, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Jewish immigrants Michael and Tillie Lazarus (Lebowitz). In 1942, at the age of twenty, he joined the Army to honorably serve his country during World War II and was deployed to the Philippines. While serving, he met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dot) Belle Perkins and married her in January, 1946. They settled and started their family in Lexington, KY. In 1955, for the health of his oldest daughter, Patricia, Gene moved his family to Albuquerque, where he worked in Data Signal Maintenance at Sandia Base until his retirement in the early 1980's. Gene was a dedicated and generous family man, and he prided himself as a handyman and built many home improvements. He and Dorothy loved Elephant Butte Lake, where they purchased a small "getaway" and spent many weekends throughout the years. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Michael; mother, Tillie; sister, Dorothy; and daughter, Pattie Coughenour. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; daughter, Barbara Lazarus; son, Michael Lazarus; grandchildren, Nathan Lazarus and wife, Valerie, Michael Lazarus and wife, Diane, Ann Donald, and Jillian Lazarus; great-grandchildren, Isis and Katiana Lazarus, Emily Donald, and Marlee Lazarus. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 27, 2011, 1:00 p.m., at French - Lomas Chapel.
