Obituary for WILLIAMS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday August 21, 2011

ELDRED LOWELL Wanda Williams said goodbye to the love of her life and the Williams sisters said goodbye to the best dad in the whole world on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Eldred "Willy" Williams grew up in Gallup, NM and went into the Navy on December 8, 1942 at the age of 15. He returned to Gallup after World War II and married Wanda, for what would be a 65 year marriage that was the very definition of love. Eldred is survived by his four daughters, Gloria Curry of Albuquerque, Judy Young of Albuquerque, Melody Everett of Estancia, NM and Holly Ruteshouser of Houston, TX; his sons-in-law, Joe Everett and Steve Ruteshouser; his seven grandchildren, Mark Johnson, Wilene Curry-Archibeque, Hillary Guenthner, Christopher Young, Travis Curry, Sean Ruteshouser and Anne Everett; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Archibeque, Sophia Archibeque, Carson Guenthner, Madeline Guenthner and Katelyn Johnson. Each of you held a very special place in his heart. Eldred was a self-made man who instilled not only the value of education in his daughters, but the value of integrity and putting your family before everything else. He graduated from college shortly before his two oldest daughters, with a degree in Accounting, and began his career with the Internal Revenue Service in Albuquerque. He would eventually retire from the IRS in Houston, TX. Willy was the life of any party and would captivate his audience with his funny stories about his childhood and the family he cherished. "Thanks, Dad, for filling our lives with laughter. If we seem to be laughing inappropriately, it is because you taught us to laugh through the pain. We love you more than life itself and will miss you every day." A gathering to celebrate Eldred's life will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011, 8:30 a.m., at French-Lomas Chapel. Ennichment with military honors will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eldred's memory to The New Mexico Veterans Integration Center (NMVIC) for homeless veterans at info@nmvic.org.
