ALDERMAN -- Minnie Ruth Alderman, 85, long time resident of Albuquerque, born March 31, 1925 in Hattiesburg, MS, daughter of Albert and Olevia Hill, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Walker and husband Ralph; grandsons, Stephen James Walker and wife Jasmyn and Dr. Scott Farrell Walker; brother, Bobby G. Hill; sister, Lillian T. Rogers, cousins, nieces and nephews. Minnie Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dr. James O. Alderman, on November 23, 2009; sisters, Lucille G. Radford, Myra Ann Givens, Rosalie G. Alderman, and her brother, John W. Givens. In her youth she was a 4-H member winning county, state, and national awards including National Congress at Chicago. She was a life long member of the Baptist church. Minnie Ruth enjoyed participating as an organist, pianist, choir member, and Sunday school teacher. She and her family provided ministry to Vista Del Rio Senior Assisted Living Home in Albuquerque, and she volunteered for the Red Cross. Minnie Ruth enjoyed all sports, participating in swimming, bowling, basketball, and softball. She found great pleasure in attending and cheering for her daughter in athletic and academic competitions, and later her grandson's Stephen and Scott. Upon her husband's retirement from the United State Air Force she received a certificate of appreciation which read as follows: "Has earned grateful appreciation for her own unselfish, faithful, and devoted service. Her unfailing support and understanding helped to make possible her husbands lasting contribution to the nation" - 28 1/2 years served on active duty. BUNTEN -- Donald John Bunten, age 86, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 22, 2010. He is survived by his cherished wife of 65 years, Billye; two daughters, Donna Bunten and husband Joe Roush of Olympia, WA, and Sharon Boyd of Albuquerque; grandson, Jeremiah Glenn and wife Amanda; great-grandson, Mason Dean Glenn; brother, Dan, and wife Mary Ann; nieces, nephews; and devoted son-in-law, Dick Glenn, all of Albuquerque. Don was born on March 9, 1924, in Raton, the third son of Arch and Grace Bunten. He was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Lynn Glenn, in 2002; and two brothers, Bill and Jim. Donald worked for the Santa Fe Railroad Company for two years before joining the Army-Air Force in 1943, wherein he became a bombardier-navigator, and married Billye in August, 1945. He worked for Sandia Laboratories as a machinist for 36 years. Upon retirement, he and Billye moved to Rio Rancho, where Don was a master gardener and helpful neighbor. We shall love, honor, cherish and respect him for the remainder of our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests thoughts and prayers for hope, global harmony, and peace. CAFARELLI -- Dorothy F. Cafarelli, 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1989, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 23, 2010. She is survived by her daughter, Doreen Dowling of Moriarty, New Mexico; son, Peter Cafarelli and wife, Susan of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, David Dowling of Moriarty, New Mexico and Jenni Cafarelli of Denver, Colorado; and great - grandchildren, Noah and Lanee Philip of Denver, Colorado. Mrs. Cafarelli was preceded in death by her husband, Pete R. Cafarelli. Mrs. Cafarelli was a longtime Elementary Teacher in Westminster, Colorado, and had worked as an Air Traffic Controller in Trinidad, Colorado during World War II. Cremation has taken place and private interment will take place in Trinidad, Colorado. CRIFASI -- B. Paul Crifasi, 97, passed away Monday, August 23, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Loretta Kuffner; his sons, Paul R. of Albuquerque, Richard and wife, Gerri of Cornelius, NC and Robert and wife, Tina of Boulder, CO; grandsons, Joseph and wife, Cara and Christopher. Paul was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 5, 1913. He retired as a Captain in the NYC Fire Dept in 1973 after serving 35 years. Paul and Loretta moved from Staten Island, NY to Albuquerque in 1980. DEANGELIS -- Leo Francis DeAngelis, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964 died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, August 23, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Olive; son Roger DeAngelis and wife, Dianne; grandchildren, Nicole DeAngelis King and husband, Josh, and Emilie DeAngelis and husband, Bert Davenport; three great-grandchildren, Kelli, Haedi, and Alexander; sister, Erma Menaul; and many other relatives and friends. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Luciano and Nicolina DeAngelis. He was born on June 8, 1920 in Berwind, CO and graduated from Arvada High School in 1938. He entered the United States Air Force, serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict, performing with dignity during both. Leo retired in 1964 and while passing through Albuquerque on their way to AZ, stopped and got a job at Sears in Coronado, when it originally opened. He and Olive owned and operated Welch Seed and Bulb for several years. Leo had a passion for the game of golf. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church. Leo was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. GARCIA -- Rachel Garcia, 49, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010, at home with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Sedillo. HIGH -- Charles M. High, IV, US Army Private, was killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 defending the freedom of our country. Charles and his fellow Infantryman, PFC Benjamen Chisholm were killed when the vehicle they were in was struck by an IED, on a mission outside their base in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. He was stationed out of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and was part of the 101st Airborne Division. Born on May 19, 1989, he was 21 years old. Charlie, as his family called him, was on his second tour overseas, his first having been in Iraq in 2008. He was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. He attended Eldorado High School and was active in the orchestra, track team and JROTC. He also attended the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM. Charlie was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout, he loved camping and looked forward to the Pinewood Derby every year. He was an accomplished viola player and was a member of the Albuquerque Youth Orchestra. Above all else, Charlie loved to play the guitar, which he taught himself and played by ear. Charlie was recently engaged to Maggie Jo Simmonds of Mankato, Minnesota. Since the age of 14, Charlie's goal was to serve his country in some aspect and when he enlisted in the US Army in 2007, he achieved that goal. He loved his Army family so deeply, and he will be sorely missed by them all. Charlie made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and he is a Hero. Charlie is survived by his father, Charles M. High III; his step-mother Sheri High; and brother Jonathan; as well as his mother Kimberlea Johnston of New Minden, Illinois; and his siblings, Eddie, Amber, Cierra and Karlie Johnston; He is also survived by his grandparents, Charles M. High II and Arlene High of Gallup, NM; Charles and Deb Williams of Albuquerque; Jessie Williams of Albuquerque; Larry and Linda Reetz of Albuquerque; and his great-grandmother, Novella King of Bernalillo. Charlie also left behind many aunts, uncles and cousins. Charlie will be welcomed into Heaven by his Uncle Gregory High and his Great Aunt Patricia Kaplan, who loved Charlie with all their hearts. HUTCHESON -- Carolyn K. Hutcheson, 65, resident of Mount Vernon, Illinois, died Saturday, August 21, 2010. She was born Saturday, December 16, 1944 in California, Missouri to Earl and Hattie Belle (Carroll) Brizendine. She was married to Calvin "Red" Hutcheson on February 27, 1960 in Kansas City, Missouri and he preceded her in death on April 23, 1995. There will be no Visitation. Colonel Ingram was studying toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tennessee in 1941 when WWII erupted. Two important life events occurred in 1942: He married Mary Frances Jacobs, his high school and church sweetheart, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. In the Corps, after training and serving as an Aviation Electronics Technician and advancing in rank to a Staff Non-Commissioned Officer, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps Reserve. After release from WWII active duty in 1946, he returned to Academia and received a B.A. Degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN; M.A. Degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN; and taught economic and business administration courses at the Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. He then returned to Vanderbilt and was studying toward a Doctorate in economics and becoming a college professor when recalled to active Marine Corps duty for the Korean Conflict. During recall service, and after prayer and deliberation, he accepted a regular commission, and became a career Marine Officer. Overall, he served 28 years in the U.S. Marine Corps with duties including: WWII Combat Engineer in the Pacific Ocean area and Occupation Peacekeeping Duty in Mainland China and Japan. Post-WWII duties included: Infantry Commander and Instructor, Training Manual Author and Editor, Advisor to the Korean Marine Corps, Computer Data Systems Design and Development for both the U.S. Marine Corps and National Military Command Center (JCS) in Washington, DC, and inspecting Marine Corps Commands worldwide. After retirement in 1970, Colonel Ingram was affiliated with the University of New Mexico Data Processing Center for six years. In 1979, he and Mary Frances volunteered for missionary service with the Foreign (now "International") Mission Board, Southern Baptist Convention and served eleven years in six different countries: Philippine Islands, Zimbabwe, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Spain and Ecuador. He was an active and faithful member of both the First Baptist and Del Norte Baptist Churches in Albuquerque. JOHNSON -- Billie Ann Lamb Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2010. Billie was a resident of Albuquerque since 1956. She was born on December 11, 1921 in Perryton, Texas, the oldest of five children. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Larry Johnson; as well as her four children: Jerri Watts [late husband Jack], Judy Riley (husband Jim), Fred Johnson (wife Rita), and Phil Johnson (wife Janelle). She played an essential role in the lives of her five grandchildren Dawn Washington (husband James), Greg Miller (wife Lesley), Ryan McClanahan (wife Liz), Jennice Johnson (fiancee Marley), and Jay Kory Johnson (wife Kristen); as well as seven great-grandchildren Dianna, Austin, Clayton, Chandler, Chase, Maya, and Ewan; She is survived by one sister, Peggy Herrmann of Amarillo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence W. and Regina C. Lamb; and siblings, Betty Wilson, Nora Jean Baker, and Jim Lamb. She served a six-month tour during WWII in the Women's Auxiliary Air Corp. She met Larry during her service tour at a USO dance in Amarillo. As the loving mother of an active family, she always ensured that there was a hot meal waiting for her family after they returned from a day on the ski slopes or other recreational outings. Larry, an avid runner and cyclist, could always count on her as his own personal "pit crew" throughout training and many competitions. Later in life, she was an avid volunteer and bird-watcher, and loved being with her family. She will always be remembered as a loving and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. A memorial service celebrating Billie's life will take place on Thursday, August 26, 2010 in Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust Street NE at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. LOEMKER -- Herbert "Herb" William Loemker, 83, a resident of Corrales and Albuquerque since 1956, died on Sunday, August 22, 2010. He is survived by his children, Vickie Loemker and husband, John Zubialde of Norman, OK, Randall Loemker and wife, Carol of Prescott, AZ, Rhonda Jones and husband, Scott of Albuquerque, and Grant Loemker and wife, Karen of San Angelo, TX; eight grandchildren, John Michael and David Robert "Robie" Zubialde, Amanda Howard and husband, Michael, Leah Hardwick and husband, Michael, Lucas and Claire Jones, and Rebecca and Jonathan Gallegos; sister, Bernita Balzer and husband, Robert of Topeka, KS; and numerous other relatives and friends. Herb was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Lois Ann Schifferdecker in 2004; and sister, Delores Schierkolk in 2009. He was born on September 11, 1926 in Bremen, KS to Walter and Alma Nieman Loemker and attended a one-room school house as a child. Although he had to quit school to work on the family farm, he still developed a breadth of knowledge which would rival many who completed school. Later he got his GED and received an Associates Degree in Electronics. Herb entered the U.S. Army in 1951 where he received a Bronze Star. He was discharged into the Reserves in 1955 and became an employee of Sandia National Laboratories where he worked as an electronics technician until his retirement in 1992. Herb was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served in numerous capacities at different times, as a Church Deacon, Chairman of the Board of Christian Education, President of the Congregation, and faithfully taught an adult Sunday School Class for many years, along with singing in the choir. Herb enjoyed farming, woodworking, gardening, camping and photography. His primary love was his family and his Lord. LUNA -- Louis L. Luna, started his new journey with our Lord on August 17, 2010. Louis, age 49, was born in Albuquerque, NM on July 21, 1961. He later moved to California, then to Las Vegas, Nevada where he remained a resident. Louis was preceded in death by his father, Adolfo Luna. He is survived by his mother, Rosie Luna; three brothers, Ron Luna, Richard Luna and his wife Martha, their children, James, Eli and Jessica and Jim Luna and Brenda Stone and their son Cody; one sister, Florence Gomez and her husband Jaime, their three children, Joshua, Candace and Zachary; and longtime best friend, Karen Marshall, whom he loved deeply. Louis had a distinguished career of over 30 years at Smith's Grocery Store where he moved up to Management. He was very dedicated to his job. Louis was an amazing person who has touched so many lives and provided so many cherished memories. He was a very outgoing and loving person, he always had a positive outlook and enjoyed laughter. Louis and his warm smile will be deeply missed by both his family and friends. MILLER -- Treva J. Miller, 88, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully on August 19, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She was born to John and Josephine Perry in Minneapolis, KS on January 1, 1922. Treva graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Concordia, KS. in 1943. She joined the Army Nursing Corps, serving in England during WWII. She returned to the States aboard the Queen Mary. She married Jack Miller in 1946. While she was raising three children, she graduated from K State with a Bachelors of Art and Science. Treva lived in Michigan for several years before moving to Albuquerque in 1959 where she retired from Lovelace Clinic after 25 years. During her Lovelace years she was the drummer for Der Polka Schlingels German Band. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Pete; and infant brother Kenneth. Treva is survived by her daughters, Beverly Rolston and husband Russ, Barbara Thomte and husband Jim; son Steve Miller D'Coda and Denise all of Albuquerque; seven special grandchildren, Steve, Jeff, JoAnn, Bob, John, Taia, and Dillon; brother Joe Perry and wife Marilyn of Minneapolis, KS; sister Dorothy Seitz of Anchorage, AK; and many nieces and nephews. NICHOLAS -- Gertrude Regina (Connor), age 96, a resident of Los Lunas, N.M., passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010 in Albuquerque, N.M. after a brief illness. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late John Connor and Cecilia Hopkins. Although "Gertie" spent most of her years as a loving wife, mother, sister and homemaker, she volunteered as a Brownie leader and she, along with "Nick", also donated many hours making pancakes for the New Braunfels, Texas Volunteer Fire Department. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Glendon Thomas "Nick" Nicholas; daughter, Regina Pointer; sisters, Marie and Beatrice and brothers, John Raymond, Joseph and James all formerly of Philadelphia. Gertie is survived by her children, Judith Foley and husband, John of Florida, Nancy Cooper and husband, Steve of Belen, Glendon Thomas "Tommy" Nicholas, Jr. and wife, Becky of Oklahoma and Elizabeth Nicholas of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren, Jack and Rick Pointer, John, Jr., Tom and Christine Foley, Josh Cooper, Teresa and Karen Nicholas; 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Margaret Lynch of New Jersey; She is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. PAUL -- Helene Paul, age 73, of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, August 22, 2010. A native of New Jersey, she and her family moved to Albuquerque in 1976. Helene loved her Lord and her church where she was a great prayer warrior. She was born Jewish, and her conversion to Christianity allowed her to blend her two faiths together. REICH -- Michael Alton Reich, went to be with the Lord August 23, 2010, Born February 12, 1942. He is a graduate of U.N.M. he also attended Hardin Simmons University where he played clarinet in their Cowboy Band. He was employed by Home Depot where he worked and served many customers. ROSS -- Reverend Cannon Edmund P.(Ned) Ross, 84, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully August 20, 2010 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law Steven and Angelique Ross. Ned is survived by his wife of 65 years Lila Kellogg Ross; sister Betsy Lackmann; daughters, LynnDee Kelly, Georgeanne Norris and husband John, Robin Jakino and husband Mike, Leslie Burgess and husband Bob; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Jeff Kelly. Ned was born January 6, 1926 to Edmund and Evelyn Ross, graduated from ABQ High in 1943 and UNM in 1949 where he obtained a civil engineering degree and lettered in football. He also attended the US Naval Academy, and served in the army during WWII. Ned is the great-grandson of New Mexico Territorial Governor Edmund G. Ross. Ned was ordained in the Episcopal Church and served as associate rector at St. Mark's on the Mesa and later with St. John's Cathedral. He was a founder of the Conference of Christians and Jews. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 27, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John's followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
