Gertrude Regina (Connor), age 96, a resident of Los Lunas, N.M., passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010 in Albuquerque, N.M. after a brief illness. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late John Connor and Cecilia Hopkins. Although "Gertie" spent most of her years as a loving wife, mother, sister and homemaker, she volunteered as a Brownie leader and she, along with "Nick", also donated many hours making pancakes for the New Braunfels, Texas Volunteer Fire Department. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Glendon Thomas "Nick" Nicholas; daughter, Regina Pointer; sisters, Marie and Beatrice and brothers, John Raymond, Joseph and James all formerly of Philadelphia. Gertie is survived by her children, Judith Foley and husband, John of Florida, Nancy Cooper and husband, Steve of Belen, Glendon Thomas "Tommy" Nicholas, Jr. and wife, Becky of Oklahoma and Elizabeth Nicholas of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren, Jack and Rick Pointer, John, Jr., Tom and Christine Foley, Josh Cooper, Teresa and Karen Nicholas; 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Margaret Lynch of New Jersey; She is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank her friends and staff at Senior Living Systems in Los Lunas for their love and support of "Mother" as well as the nurses and staff of Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Hospice at Anna Kaseman Hospital. A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service to be held at 1:00 p.m. with Father Robert Mundy officiating. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio, Texas. Honorary Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, John Foley, Sr. and Steve Cooper; grandsons, Rick Pointer, Jack Pointer, John Foley, Jr., Tom Foley, and Josh Cooper.
