In the Corps, after training and serving as an Aviation Electronics Technician and advancing in rank to a Staff Non-Commissioned Officer, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps Reserve. After release from WWII active duty in 1946, he returned to Academia and received a B.A. Degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN; M.A. Degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN; and taught economic and business administration courses at the Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. He then returned to Vanderbilt and was studying toward a Doctorate in economics and becoming a college professor when recalled to active Marine Corps duty for the Korean Conflict. During recall service, and after prayer and deliberation, he accepted a regular commission, and became a career Marine Officer. Overall, he served 28 years in the U.S. Marine Corps with duties including: WWII Combat Engineer in the Pacific Ocean area and Occupation Peacekeeping Duty in Mainland China and Japan. Post-WWII duties included: Infantry Commander and Instructor, Training Manual Author and Editor, Advisor to the Korean Marine Corps, Computer Data Systems Design and Development for both the U.S. Marine Corps and National Military Command Center (JCS) in Washington, DC, and inspecting Marine Corps Commands worldwide. After retirement in 1970, Colonel Ingram was affiliated with the University of New Mexico Data Processing Center for six years.
