AVALOS -- Sherise C. Avalos began a new journey on June 6, 2009. Sherise fought long and hard for her life and bore the weight of her illness with courage and a strong determination to fight "the good fight". Through it all, she kept her faith in God and her "positive" outlook on life. She is survived by her long time soulmate, love and unconditional friend "Bob" of Bob and Sherise; she also leaves behind beloved family members; sisters Gina and Saadia; nephews, Joshua, Garrett, and Edward; Auntie Peach and Uncle Mike; cousins Steffie and Nessie; her dear friend Jeanette; and her beloved cat "Mr. Boo Boos" and many other friends and family. Sherise was a beautiful, generous, loving and talented spirit who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. BACA -- Leo A. Leo was born in Las Vegas, NM in 1923. Leo, a life long resident of New Mexico, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 8, 2009. He was a WWII fighter pilot and flight instructor, former New Mexico State Police Officer, and retired from Sandia Labs as a security officer. He is preceded in death by his son, Jimmy; and daughter Deena. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie of 63 years; brother Elmo of Los Alamos; son Nicky and wife Barbara; daughter Connie Jo and Steele; six grandchildren, Jimmy, Jennifer, Jeremy and wife Jaime, Jayme and husband Steve, Joelle and Juliette; five great-grandchildren, Tiana, Matthew, Maryssa, Kyra, and Ethan; and other relatives and friends. Leo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, friend and man who always said "It's all about family." Leo was an avid hunter, fisherman, story teller, and cook. BLACK -- Florence C. Black, 73, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on June 9, 2009 with her family at her side. Mrs. Black is survived by her children, A. Anthony Black and wife, Mary Ann, Veronica Stepp, and Martin Black; her son in law, Rick Austin; her grandchildren, Joe Michael Fraley and wife, Christina, Jenara Furness and husband, Dennis, Gary Fraley and wife, Kara, Brittonie King and husband, Logan, Kolbe Fraley, Eric Fraley, Alex Black and Brianna Black; her great-grandchildren, Avery, Jenna, Kalista, Koda, Kenzia, Lance, Landon and Owen. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred B. Black; her son, Vincent E.J. Black; and eleven older siblings. Mrs. Black was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows, Veguita, NM. CRAMER -- William (Bill) Eugene Cramer, 83, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 with his family at his side. Bill was born May 24, 1926 the son of Clarence and Florence Viola Morgan Cramer in Dunreith, Indiana. He graduated from high school in Richmond, Indiana joined the Army in 1944, and was stationed in Austria during World War II. After he was discharged, he moved to Los Alamos and worked for AEC, DOE, and LASL as a Communications Engineer. Living in Los Alamos he continued his love of sports, playing hardball, softball, basketball, bowling, and of course, golf. He was one of the natural athletes that only come once out of every 10,000 men. Bill became one of Pierottis Clowns in 1955 catching bullets for Bun Ryan. He was leading hitter for the Clowns with an average of 431. After retiring, he moved to Rio Rancho so he and his wife could play golf all year round. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Florence; two brothers, Glen and Bob; and one sister, Roberta; all of Richmond, Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joe Wanda Chidester Cramer; son, Douglas and wife Linda of Rio Rancho, NM; daughters, Linda Grande and husband Michael of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Lisa Romero of Los Alamos; grandchildren, Aleeta Spencer and husband Dennis, Eric Jennings and wife Laura, Leon Jennings and wife Christy and Melissa Romero; nine great-grandchildren, Tristan, Akala, Mathew, Eli, Zach, Alyssa, Olivia, Gabriella, and Esteban. DAVIS -- Marian Jo Davis, a woman committed to God and her family, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009. She lived out her commitment by serving children in both her career, 28 years of teaching in APS, and 58 years of teaching children in her church. Marian has been a teacher of teachers for the past 20 years. She was an active member of the area wide senior adult choir "Young At Heart", where she was choir chaplain. Traveling was one of her greatest joys; she traveled to all 50 states and many other countries. Even just days before she passed, she was actively serving and involved in the lives of her family. The gift of service was continually being expressed by Marian to her family and the community. Marian was an active member of Del Norte Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Lillian Ann Moon and husband, Danny, of Albuquerque and Cindy Rae Chasteen and husband, Chris, of Elverta, CA; son, Larry Joe Davis and wife, Carrie, of Irving, TX; grandchildren, Karey Johnson and husband, Wil, Kristy Peck and husband, Wade, John Davis, Matthew Davis and wife, Casey, Cammi Moseley and husband, Justin, and Scott Chasteen and wife, Nicole; great-grandchildren, Isiah Howell, Noah Howell, Gabriellah Howell, Whitney Peck, Audrey Peck and Mason Davis; sister, Jane Wright of Springfield, MO; and brother, David Cordell of Littletown, CO. DAVIS -- Veda Joy Davis passed away on June 10, 2009 in Abq, NM. She was born in El Paso, TX on May 2, 1931. She married her husband, Louis C. Davis, on July 1, 1950. She was a bank teller and a loving mother. She is survived by five children; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The viewing will be from 11-5 on Friday and the Funeral Service is at 1 p.m., Saturday at the Riverside Funeral Home.

FLOWERS -- Geraldine Mary Flowers, age 67, went home to the Lord on May 22, 2009. She was born July 20, 1941 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Geri (to her friends) lived in New Mexico for many years where she passed away due to a battle with cancer. She is survived by two sisters, one brother and four children, Marty Padilla of Alb., NM, John Padilla of Denver CO, Stephanie Padilla of Taos, NM and Christine Johnson of Alb., NM. She was also a grandmother to Mark, Shanna and Skyler Padilla of Alb., NM also River Padilla of Denver CO. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. GARCIA -- Alexander Patrick Garcia, beloved father; husband; son; brother; and friend, has passed away at the age of 43. As a result of an unfortunate motorcycle accident on June 6, 2009; Alex sustained severe injuries. Despite his strength and passion for life, with God's blessing he succumbed on June 9, 2009. Although Alex was unable to heal himself in the end, he touched many lives with the art of his healing skills along with his wife, Jennifer, at their pilates studio, Engage. He is survived by his ten year old son, Noe; seven year old daughter, Alexina; his wife Jennifer; his parents, Alex and Cissi Garcia; his brother Johnny, and wife, Karen; his sister, Cathy, and husband Matthew Torrez; his sister Cyndi, and husband James Pepe; along with 11 nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited Friday, June 12 at 7 p.m., and Mass will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 11 a.m., at John XXIII Catholic Church located at 4831 Tramway Ridge Drive.

HOLGUIN -- Elpidia Holguin, 83, Pia as she was affectionately known, was born in San Antonio, New Mexico on April 12, 1926 to Jose Dolores Carrillo and Emilia Peralta, passed away on the morning of June 10, 2009. Mrs. Holguin is the beloved wife of Mr. Michael Joseph Holguin, married for 56 years; a wonderful mother to her six children, Peg A. Holguin, Therese A. Thomas, Michael J. Holguin Jr., Albert A. Holguin, D. Michelle Duran and Paul M. Holguin; by her three big sisters, whom she dearly loved, Angelina, Lola and Susie; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren who adored her and who will all miss her dearly. Mrs. Holguin was warm, witty and a fun loving person; she was as beautiful as she was smart and was passionate about life. Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. by Lena Orozco. KLATTENHOFF -- Wilbur Henry Klattenhoff, devoted pastor, husband, father, and grandfather was called home to Heaven to be with Christ his Savior and reunited with his beloved wife on June 9, 2009. He was 90 years old. He is survived by five loving daughters and their husbands, Carol and Jeff Mullen, Susan and Glenn Weber, Linda and Dave Parmeter; Nancy and John Lacher; and Kathy and Ed DeLucas. He also had five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The grandchildren include Megan Mullen; Michele and Carrie (Busch) Weber; Matthew and Leslie (Newberry) Parmeter. Great grand children are Mayson and Hunter Parmeter. He is survived by one sister, Eunice Knuth, of Herington, KS. He was affectionately called Pastor "K" by his congregation at Christ Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, which he was called to establish in 1959. Pastor Klattenhoff was ordained by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in 1944. For 40 years until he retired in 1984, he served two families, the members of his congregations and his family at home. He was very proud of both families, providing guidance, discipline, support and love to his congregations and his loved ones. He was much more than a minister and father, he was a counselor, role model, and motivator possessing the leadership of Moses, the strength of David and the wisdom of Solomon, coupled with the dedication and determination of Peter. He loved his parishioners and his family. He very much loved his wife and soul mate, Alma. He loved golf and his German Shepherd, Magnum. He will be greatly missed. Visitation is scheduled to be at French's Mortuary, at 10500 Lomas on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church 7001 Candelaria NE on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Weber and Pastor Neal Groeling officiating. LEWIS -- Julius Lewis, age 79, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Nordheim, Texas on December 14, 1929.Julius worked until his retirement at several major commercial construction firms in Albuquerque area, he was also a tireless worker at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Albuquerque. Julius was a devoted family man who was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Rose M. Lewis; daughters, Renae K. Lewis, Dorine Williams and son, Steve; brothers, Joe M. Lewis, Bob T. Lewis; sisters, Lorraine Pickens, Beulah King and Christine Galloway. Julius was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and a grandaughter. He also leaves to mourn numerous family and friends. MCCLUNG -- LaRue Mary McClung, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2009 of natural causes. She is survived by her children, Mark Sheffey and Stephanie Fischer-Sheffey of Danville, CA; Sharahn McClung and Dr. Gilles Francfort, PH. D.of New York, NY; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. McClung was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold W. McClung, M.D. La Rue McClung was born in Duquesne, PA in 1936. She received her degree in nursing from McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing '56, and B.S. from Duquesne University '59. She started her career with the Visiting Nurse Service in New York City, and continued over the next five decades to work at Swedish Hospital School of Nursing and Metropolitan Medical Center in MN; Herrick Hospital and O'Connor Hospital-San Jose Hospital in CA; St. Joseph's Health Care and Memorial Hospital in NM. She was actively pursuing her certification in Case Management. Mrs. McClung was a passionate supporter of the arts, both performing and culinary. She taught at the Cooks of Crocus Hill Culinary School in St. Paul, MN. She was a member of the New Mexico Symphony Guild and held many positions there, including President from 1990-1991. Her interests included travel, culture, and history. A Private Service will be held by the family. MILLER -- Marjorie Ann (Smith) Miller, born June 30, 1933, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2009, in Wylie, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis C. Miller and daughter, Ginny Miller; her parents M.W. "Chisel" Smith & Mary Iola "Jerry" Smith; and brother-in-law, Mitch Sinks. Born and raised in Albuquerque, she attended St. Vincent Academy, then went on to Stephens College to study music. She returned to Albuquerque to finish school at the University of New Mexico, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and where she met her husband Louie. They raised their two daughters, Katie and Ginny, in Lee Acres and were active in the National Arabian Horse Association. Marj also enjoyed being a part of the Albuquerque Junior League and the New Mexico Symphony. In 1999, she moved to Texas, to be close to her children. She is survived by her daughter Katie Benedict with husband Richard of Lavon, TX, and granddaughter, Amanda Prouty with husband Chris, plus her most beloved great-grandsons, Brendyn, Caleb and Zachary Prouty, all of Wylie, TX; as well as her sister, Judi K. Sinks and nephew, Steven J Westman, both of Albuquerque, NM She loved her family, as well as her friends, her music and Thursday mornings at the Beauty Shop. Per her request there will be a cremation and no service. The family will gather in the Sandia Mountains this summer for a private remembrance. In lieu of flowers she would have preferred contributions to be made to a charitable organization of your choosing. She will be missed, but her songs and stories will continue in our hearts. PERRY -- Dorothy L. Perry, 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 10, 2009. She is survived by her children, Carley Perry and wife, Glenda, Patricia MacDuffee and husband, Keith, Peggy Gutierrez and husband, Maurice; grandchildren, Ashley Perry, Shane Randall and wife, Shandy, Keesha Anderson and husband, Jared, Brandon Stewart and fiancee, Leah Chavez; great-grandchildren, Kaylyn, Alanah, and Dylan; sister, Ester Armijo; brothers, Millard Stump, James Stump, Chester Stump and wife, Thelma; brother-in-law, Walter Bracken; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Pat; son, Ivy; and granddaughter, Briana. Dorothy was a precious and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Extremely talented, Dorothy mastered everything that she attempted including sewing, knitting, crocheting, upholstering, decorating, baking, gardening, canning, painting oils and acrylics. She loved dancing, singing, and playing musical instruments but mostly the piano and guitar. She had the beauty of a movie star and the class to go with it. PINON -- Louisa A. Pinon, our loving "Mom" and "Gram" was born April 24, 1944 in Dawson, New Mexico. She passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Louisa was raised in Cimarron, New Mexico and was a longtime resident of Albuquerque. She will be remembered as a loving mother to her family, as well as many other people including, Isa, Ramona, Rose and Georgine. Louisa had a great sense of humor and she enjoyed crocheting. She loved to cook, she loved butterflies, but most of all, she loved to spend time with her beloved family. Louisa was preceded in death by her parents, Joaquin and Audelia Martinez; her husbands, Danny Sanchez and Ramon Pinon; her son, Daniel Sanchez and her daughter, Dee Sanchez. She is survived by her mother-in-law, Celia Sanchez; her three daughters, Connie Sanchez, Teresa Sanchez and husband Jesus Acosta and Micah Sanchez; one sister, Helen Sena; two sisters-in-law, Carmen Castillo and Priscilla Abeyta; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. ROMERO -- Andrew Vincent Romero, 23, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 8, 2009. Andrew is survived by his father, Carlos Gonzales; Big Mom, Sally Gonzales; Little Mom, Annette Romero; his sisters, Monique Romero, and Angelique Gonzales; his uncle, Andrew Romero; his aunts, Carolyn Romero, Donna Gonzales, and Ruby Sanchez; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Andrew was preceded in death by his cousin, Ryan Gonzales; and his friend, Chris. Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2009 in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., by Joseph Baca. Final visitation will be Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Father Stephen Hickman, Presider. Pallbearers will be Jesse Dominguez, James Gonzales, Dominic Gonzales, Paul Bryant, Juan Chavez and Dominic Chavez. Honorary pallbearers will be Adreana Gomez, Emily Torres, Donna Gonzales, Ruby Sanchez, Latoya Sandoval and Patricia Sanchez. Andrew will be greatly missed by all. ROTHWELL -- Inez Rothwell passed away on June 7, 2009 in the arms of her loving husband at the age of 95. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, John Rothwell; sister, Verna Scilligo; and many nieces and nephews. Inez was born on a small farm in Linn, Missouri in 1913. She was raised in a time of horse and buggy and saw all the changes of the modern world. She and John moved to Albuquerque on Thanksgiving Day, 1970 and enjoyed their retirement by building a cabin in the Jemez Mountains. She lived a wonderful, fulfilling life alongside that of her husband. Inez was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

SALTZMAN -- Doris E. Saltzman, 86, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Doris was born in Milford, NE Monday, August 21, 1922 to John I. and Mary Ann (Birky) Stutzman. She is survived by her children, Julia Sommers and husband, Wayne of Albuquerque, NM, Diane Beckler and husband, Norman of Philadelphia, TN, Karl Saltzman and wife, Gloria of Albuquerque, NM, Reta Roth and husband, Duane of Rio Rancho, NM, Nathan Saltzman and wife, Marilyn of Albuquerque, NM, and daughter-in-law, Dwanna Schantz and husband, Leonard of W. Burlington, IA; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl Beachy and husband, Joe; and sister, Wilma Roth; and many other family and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clinton; son, Lonnie; grandson, Kelvin; sisters, Elsie Earnest, Millie Miller, Lillie Stauffer/Lehman, and Florence Stauffer; and her brother Earl Stutzman. Mrs. Saltzman and her husband were faithful members of the Milford Mennonite Church in Milford, NE and after moving to Albuquerque she attended Faith Bible Church. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young girl and was a committed Christian. SCHAIRER -- Ed Schairer. Fine furniture designer and Craftsman, passed away suddenly Saturday, June 6, 2009. He was born on June 27, 1947. Ed was a member of the band at Sandia High School, received best trumpet player in NM award, and graduated from UNM with a geology degree. He was a member of Christ Unity at the Edge of the Woods Church (near Sedillo, NM.) Services will be at his church on Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his brother, Don Schairer and wife, Karen of Sedona AZ; his niece, Amber and nephew, Eric and their families; his son, Daniel Schairer and wife, Nicole; and grandsons, Keith and Trent; daughter, Abigail Schairer and wife, Geena; step-son, Will Hoffman and wife, Rachel, and grandsons, Arion and Tyler Hoffman; and three other step-sons and their families.

VIGIL -- Margaret Yvette Vigil born July 13, 1954, passed away suddenly at UCSD Hillcrest Hospital, San Diego, California on Sunday, May 31, 2009. She lived her formative years in NM, where she attended Albuquerque High School and TVI. Margaret moved to California and worked in hospital administration. She had a successful career and was nominated as the 2009 National Hispanic Business Woman of the Year. Margaret is survived by her two loving daughters, Ronda and Madeline Gomez; ex-husband, Ronald Gomez; sisters, Patricia Appel, Barbara Castro, and Sandra Alarcon; brothers, Alfonso Vigil, Daniel Payne, and Michael Payne; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members. WHITEMAN -- Kenneth W. Whiteman, 83, local watercolor artist, signature member, New Mexico Watercolor Society, died June 8, 2009, from complications of Parkinson's disease. WINN -- Jackie Lee Winn, SFC- US Army (Ret). November 26, 1929 to June 9, 2009. Jack honorably served his Country in the United States Army and retired after 20 years of service. After serving his Country he gave another 19 years to the University of New Mexico with the Campus Police and Ford Utilities. From that point forward Jack spent his days enjoying and spoiling his granddaughter Ashley. Jack was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, John Wayne, fishing, camping, building things, fixing things, a good cup of coffee and his family. Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlene H. Winn; his daughter, Tamma Williams (Irving Andrews); his granddaughter, Ashley Williams; brother, Lewis "Joe" George Winn Jr. (Holly Hardin) and cousins, Steve (Shawne) Weinberger and Shirley (John) Hayes. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Lewis George and Ruby Winn and by his twin brother, Robert H. Winn. WITHERSPOON -- David Allen Witherspoon, 69, of Albuquerque died following a short illness on Friday, June 5, 2009. Born in Long Beach, CA on December 8, 1939, son of H. Neil and Anne Eva (Kimball) Witherspoon, he spent much of his childhood in Cranford, NJ, before returning to southern California in 1953. He received a Fine Arts Degree from UCLA in 1969 and moved to Albuquerque in 1971 to work on his Masters of Fine Arts from UNM. There he built his home and started a family. He was a talented draftsman, architect and sculptor who designed several buildings and homes in Albuquerque and around New Mexico, such as the Farmington Public Library, UNM Law Library, Espanola High School, Friends Meeting House, a major addition to Presbyterian Hospital, as well as many more. David's public art contributions include "Abstract Lounge Chair" (1967) on the campus of UCLA and "Mountain Waves" (1986) at the entrance of Piedra Lisa Park in Albuquerque, NM. He shifted gears later in life to become a passionate elementary school teacher at Chamisa, Alvarado and East San Jose Elementary Schools. Throughout his teaching career, and even more so in retirement, he introduced children to the wonders of Environmental Studies, specifically gardening and conservation. Together with the children, he honored the importance of growing food for their families and community. He was a longtime member of the Reevaluation Counseling community and was active with a Men's Wellness support group for the last 15 years. A proud father and grandfather, he is survived by two daughters, Anne Bolger-Witherspoon and her husband Lonnie Anderson, and Sarah Bolger-Witherspoon; and two granddaughters, Hawthorn Cecilia Bolger-Witherspoon and Cheyenne Bonnie Anderson, all of Albuquerque; a brother Robert Witherspoon of Bellingham, WA; a sister, Sheila (McLauchlan) Carbrey (husband Robert) and several nephews and nieces of Williamsville, NY; and many cousins. He is also survived by friends who will miss his company and insight. The family will hold a Memorial and Celebration of Life on Thursday, June 18, 2009, 6:30 p.m. at Friends Meeting House, 1600 5th St NW, Albuquerque NM.
