ABRUZZO -- Addisyn Grace Abruzzo, a precious gift from heaven, passed away on Friday April 18, 2008. Addi graced our lives for fourteen wonderful months. Her bright smiles, love for sweet peas, and infectious personality will be missed by all those around her. She was and always will be a bright rainbow in our lives. BENJAMIN -- Marta D. Benjamin, 76, went peacefully to sleep and awoke in heaven. She is survived by her son, Steven Benjamin, Sr. and wife, Roberta; daughter, Kim Macaron and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Steven Jr., Christopher, Shaniece, Chyanne, and Makayla Benjamin, and Kristian, Mark II, Melissa, and Jason Macaron; great-grandchild, Diego Benjamin; brothers, David Padilla, and Frank Victor Padilla and wife, Eva; sister, Grayce Britton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Benjamin was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Vance Benjamin; brothers, Matt, Blase, and Lito Padilla, and John Sekot. Marta was born in Dawson, NM. She lived in Albuquerque where she worked for Mountain Bell until her retirement. Marta devoted her life to her family, and her grandchildren were her greatest treasure. BURDITT -- Donald Burditt, AKA "Shorty" or some referred to him as "Dickie". No matter what you called him, the truth remains that Shorty will always be remembered as the life of the party. A wonderful husband, father, grandpa, friend, and story-teller went to his Heavenly home to be with his Savior and Lord Saturday, April 19, 2008, following a heroic battle with cancer. Shorty will be remembered for his energy, humor, love for the outdoors, especially fishing and driving the tractor, and his legendary "dinkies". He was unquestionably the greatest fudge-maker and cook (barbeque and chili) his family and friends have ever known. Shorty was born on April 17, 1933, in the Town of Cheyenne, WY to the late Franklin and Mary Burditt. He attended Los Alamos grade school and graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1951. Shorty served in the Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956 after serving his country as Navy Seaman 3rd class. On November 5, 1960, he was united in marriage to Charlene F. Wheeler of Duncan, AZ, and raised a family of five children as an Electrician and State of NM Electrical Inspector. Shorty is survived by his wife, Charlene; sons, Eugene, Frank, Randy and wife, Wendy; daughter, Candace Stokes and husband, Robert; four grandchildren, Jeni Neeley and husband, Billy, Brandon Ross, Jessi Harris and husband, John, and Megan Burditt; three great-grandchildren, Buddy, Tara, and Shane Neeley; and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Brooks; her husband, Ernie; and one grandson, Baby Richard. BUTTRAM -- Billy Joe Buttram, 77, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2008. He was an Albuquerque resident since 1969. He is survived by his wife Doris of 52 years; daughters Susan Synarski and her partner Birgitta Meckel of Oakland, California; Kathy Chilcoat of Los Alamos; sons David Buttram and wife Michelle of League City, Texas and Scott Buttram of Albuquerque; grandsons Kristoffer Chilcoat of Everett, Washington; Joshua Buttram and Jordan Buttram of League City, Texas; and sister Marvagene Allen of Piedmont, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Una Buttram; sister Doris Phelps and husband Carlin. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona in flight training. He served as an Aircraft Commander in the KC-135 in Strategic Air Command. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. He worked in real estate for the next 10 years. He loved boating and fishing and spent many vacations at Elephant Butte Lake and Lake Powell with his family. He belonged to the "Aeromodelers of Kirtland" for many years, serving in many capacities in the club. He spent many hours building and flying his remote-controlled planes and teaching others to fly them. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and his beloved dog, Fabio. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April, 25, 2008 at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors. CHAVEZ -- Lola D. Chavez, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away April 20, 2008. Mrs. Chavez is survived by her six loving children, Sophia Chavez, Regina Zamora, Lupe Morrell, David Chavez and wife, Lupe, Domingo Chavez and fiance, Virginia Sanchez, Leroy Gallegos; brother, Trinidad F. Romero and wife, Cathy; daughters-in-law, Becky Chavez and Dorothy Chavez; 31 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and four on the way; and many other extended family members. Mrs. Chavez was preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo Chavez Sr.; her children, Trinidad Chavez, Joe Chavez, Guillermo Chavez Jr., Angie Baca, and Rosemary Chavez. Mrs. Chavez was a member of the Catholic Church. DAVIS -- Coy Albert Davis, Jr., was born in Little Rock, AR to Coy A. Davis, Sr. and Margaret E. Warren-Davis. He attended public schools in Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1948, where he was very active in music and singing. He was affiliated with the Finkbiener Meat Packing Firm until 1951 when he entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He served in Louisiana, Nebraska, and French Morocco, North Africa. After leaving the Air Force he graduated from Texas Wesleyan College in Ft. Worth, TX, cum laude. He was inducted into the Alpha Chi National Scholarship Society. He worked at the University of Arkansas Medical Center as a clinical social worker, and received his Master's Degree in social work from the University of Tennessee. In 1965 Mr. Davis accepted a commission in the U.S. Public Health Service in Albuquerque, NM, where he worked with the Indian tribes for 26 years until 1991. He retired from the USPHS in 1991 as a Health Service Director with the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Commendation Medal and the Unit Commendation award from the Surgeon General of the United States. He also received commendations from the Isleta and Navajo tribes. Mr. Davis joined the Development Disabilities Division of the New Mexico Department of Health in 1992 and worked there for several years. He received his Doctor of Practical Ministry from Trinity Theological Seminary in 1998. He was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the National Association of Christians in Social Work, and the Commissioned Officers Association of USPHS. He was active in Christian service through the Del Norte Baptist Church, teaching in adult Bible study classes, with a special interest in prophetic studies, in the church choirs and men's quartet. He was very active in the supervision and training of other social workers. Mr. Davis was also a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and wonderful family man. He was kind, gentle, loving, dignified, and always a living example of Jesus Christ in his life. He enjoyed his family very much and was very proud of all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. He went to heaven peacefully on April 21, 2008. He will be missed very much and remembered forever. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marvelle J. Davis; four children, Kathy Davis Wylie and husband, Joe, and their daughters, Sarah Gomez and husband Scott, and Abigail Pine and husband Ryan, and great-grandchildren, Jackson Rudd and Annabelle Pine, all of Weatherford, TX; daughter, Machelle Davis Karler and husband Ed, and grandsons, Casey and Coy Karler; two sons, Dr. Wayne Davis of Phoenix, AZ, and John Davis and wife, Serenia of Albuquerque; sister, Jacklyn Purtle and husband, Randall of Little Rock, AR. Coy was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Sue Davis. A memorial celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008, 1:00 p.m., at Northdale Baptist Church, 123 Osuna Rd. NW. ESQUBEL -- Willie Esquibel Sr., age 83, passed away April 20, 2008, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Lala Esquibel, of 31 years; daughter, Frances Esquibel and Alfredo; son, Willie Esquibel, Jr. and wife, Monica; step-son, Donald Smith and Theresa; step-daughter, Tina Cordova and husband, Ed; granddaughter, Sidra Cordova; grandsons, Frank Esquibel and wife, Melissa, Tony Gallegos and wife, Tracy, six great-grandchildren from Colorado, one sister, Estella Rangel, also from Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. FARRELL -- Carl David Farrell, 69, passed away on April 19, 2008, in Albuquerque, NM. He was born October 18, 1938, to Joseph and June Farrell in Lansing, Michigan. Carl and his family have been residents of Albuquerque, NM, for over 30 years. He is a diehard Cowboys fan, member of the Masonic Lodge, veteran of the United States Marine Corps, avid athlete, and role model and inspiration for young men wanting to go into the Armed Forces. GALBRETH -- Wilmer Edward, age 79, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008, after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Peggy; children, Linda Owens and husband, Kent, Dr. Bill Galbreth, Rex Galbreth, and Mark Galbreth; nine grandchildren, Lee Owens and wife, Shawna, Lisa Arendt and husband, Paul, Bo, Broc and Baxter Galbreth, Taylor and Erin Galbreth; aunt, Mary Ann Wright; nephew, Dr. Jarrett Galbreth and wife, Ruth; and numerous great nieces and nephews. "Bill" Galbreth, along with his family, owned and operated one of the first furniture stores in downtown Albuquerque, Galbreth Furniture. He was also a dedicated employee of Hales Janitorial Supply. Bill was a longtime antique car collector, restorer, and a member of the Veteran Car Club, Albuquerque Branch. He was a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved camping, boating, and fishing with his family. He was a devoted family man, a wonderful father and a loving grandfather. His friends and family will dearly miss his outgoing, friendly manner and his wonderful sense of humor. He was a compassionate, kind man who always greeted everyone with hugs and kisses. Harry was born January 24, 1912, in Chambersburg, PA, to Charles and Florence Gelwicks. They both have preceded him in death. Harry married Helen E. Poff on June 19, 1933 in Harrisburg, PA. She also preceded him in death. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Laws and her husband, Tom, of Roswell; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren. GONZALES -- Guadalupe Gonzales, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, April 20, 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Lucy Gonzales; grandsons, Michael Sedillo and wife, Francine, Joseph Sedillo and wife, Alicia; and great-grandson, Jordan. She was also a beloved mother to her nieces and nephew who she lovingly raised as her own; Susan Ritz, Sandra Herrera and husband, Rodney, Gerald Gurule; grandchildren, MaryAnne, Connie, Amanda, Tina, Daniel, Alicia, Eric, Gerald, Jr.; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Gonzales, in 1973 and great granddaughter, Renee Guadalupe Sedillo. Guadalupe was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of the Shrine of St. Bernadette. She was an alumni of the University of New Mexico and was a life long educator. Guadalupe was a devoted neighbor and friend who took great joy in caring for children. She was frequently seen crocheting baby booties for newborns. JIRON -- Reycita C. Jiron, a resident of Isleta Pueblo and a member of the Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo, passed away suddenly on April 21, 2008. She is survived by daughters, Mary Ethel Trujillo and husband, Glenn; Elizabeth Johnson and husband, Wilbert (dec.); Mary Evelyn Belgarde and husband, Richard LoRe; her daughter in law, Gundi Jiron; her grandson/son, Daniel J. Lucero; two sisters, Geronima Montoya and Ramoncita Sandoval; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Charles Jiron; her son, Charles Edwin (Eddie) Jiron; and grandson, Mark Allen Jiron. She was devoted to the canonization of Blessed Kateri Tekawitha and was a life long member of the National Tekawitha Organization. Mrs. Jiron was a lifelong educator, dedicated to working with Native American students at the Santa Fe Indian and Albuquerque Indian Schools. Services will be held at the St. Augustine Church in Isleta Pueblo on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, with visitation from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2008, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Isleta Cemetery. KNIGHT -- ETCS Frederic C. Knight, USN (ret), 54, a long time resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, April 19, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, Steven Knight; daughter, Analisa Knight; sisters, Marci Knight, Sharon Knight; brother, Randy Knight; and other relatives and friends. Frederic was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Sharon Knight. He was born on November 20, 1953, in New London, CT. Frederic entered the United States Navy where he proudly served his country for twenty years. He had various hobbies ranging from woodworking to gardening and loved to spend time fishing and hunting, anything to do with the outdoors. He also loved to collect art. Frederic was a loving father, devoted husband, and friend to many and will be missed by all who knew him. KNOX -- Marjorie W. Knox, 80, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008. She was born March 22, 1928, in Punxsutawney, PA, the daughter of Daniel and Lydia Williams. Marjorie is survived by her son, William and his wife, Rosemarie, of Albuquerque; and her grandson, Bryan, also of Albuquerque. Marjorie first moved to Roswell, NM in 1951, where she was married. She settled in Albuquerque in 1956. Marjorie worked for over thirty years as an escrow officer and had fond memories of the many friends she gained during that time, especially Virginia, Stewart, Connie, and Elsie. She loved her family and her dogs and was most proud of her grandson, Bryan, and cherished the many hours she was able to spend with him. The family wished to express our gratitude to all those at St. Catherine's Healthcare who worked hard to make her last months comfortable, especially Janet, Candace, Victoria, and Sue. In keeping with Marjorie's wishes, no Services will be held. Instead she wanted everyone to take a moment to pray for peace in the world. MARTIN -- Gail Martin, the strongest woman we have ever known, passed away on April 20, 2008, after a courageous three-year battle with breast cancer. She was 57 years old. MORRIS -- James C. Morris, 84, of Edgewood, NM passed away on Monday, April 21, 2008, at his home in Edgewood, NM with his loving family beside him. J.C. was born December 8, 1923, in Tonkawa, OK to James Calvin and Georgia (Scarbrough) Morris. J.C. and his family moved to New Mexico in 1931. He grew up in the Venus/Edgewood/Cedargrove area. He graduated from Stanley High School in 1941. J.C. and Doris Lavon Moseley were married on November 25, 1943, in Edgewood, NM. During WWII, he served his country with the US Navy. After the war, J.C. went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1985 after 29 years. During their years in Albuquerque, J.C. and Doris raised five sons. He was a proud and devoted father. After retirement, J.C. and Doris returned to the Edgewood area. J.C. loved riding his horse, Ben, tending his cows, and visiting friends at church and the seniors' center. He loved giving horseback and tractor rides to all his grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his quick smile and ability to engage almost anyone in a conversation on a wide range of subjects. J.C. had an unconditional love for his family and the Lord. He was a faithful member of Stanley Union Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joe Calvin Morris; brother, George Morris; and daughter-in-law, Terri Morris. MULCAHY -- Diane B. Mulcahy, died peacefully at The Cottages on Monday, April 21, 2008 after a long battle with dementia. ROBBINS -- Shirley Muriel Evans Robbins was born May 10, 1921, in Joyfield Twp., Benzie County, Michigan to Gladys Vera Putney Evans and J. Ben Evans. (J. Ben Evans was born James Benzonia Walker and adopted by John D. and Nancy Evans at age five) Shirley peacefully passed on April 18, 2008, at the Hospice branch of Anna Kaseman Hospital. She was a resident of Albuquerque since 1973. She is survived by her husband, Donald Kelly Robbins; one brother, Duane (Bug) Gemmell Evans and his wife Susie, of Benzonia, Benzie County, Michigan; and a sister, Iris Noreen Evans Graham and husband, Harry, of Raymore, Missouri; Seventeen nieces and nephews; and thirty five great-nieces and nephews. Her step-children are Lynn Sullivan and husband, David, of Albuquerque, Kyra Ludwigson and husband, Jeff, of Mahtomedi, Minnesota, Dr. David Robbins and his wife, Ruthie Horn, of Albuquerque, and Janna Bordeaux and husband, Dean, of Phoenix, Arizona. She was predeceased by her father, J. Ben Evans (1935); and her mother, Gladys Vera Putney Evans (1952); and four brothers, Kenneth Chester Evans (1945), Harry Walker Evans (1953), Sidney Carroll Evans (1988), and James David Evans (1973). Shirley was a life long member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She was an active member of Monte Vista Christian Church while living in Albuquerque. The church has played a great part in her life. She has gained much support of her faith in the church. She attended Benzie County Normal (1938-1939) and taught two years in a one room country school in that county. She was graduated from Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Kalamazoo, Michigan and had a Master's degree (in Nursing) from Western Michigan University of Kalamazoo, Michigan. She practiced as a registered nurse (RN) for more than forty years. During that span of time, she has had a variety of supervisor positions. She taught nursing at Bronson Methodist Hospital, and remained in touch with many of her students for all of her life. She served as Director of Nursing Education and Medical Supervisor at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was assistant Director of Nursing at Blodgett Memorial Hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was a Medical Supervisor at Memorial Hospital, Fremont, Ohio. She was Director of Nursing at Memorial Hospital in St. Joseph, Michigan. She married and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1973. While in New Mexico, she was an Assistant Professor of Nursing, for the University of New Mexico. She helped set up the UNM school of Nursing in Gallup. She was the Director of Nursing for the Cancer Research and Treatment Center, in its early formative years. She participated in the Meson cancer treatment activity at Los Alamos. She joined the Presbyterian family, and worked with the several branch centers that Presbyterian Hospital has across the state, like Clovis, Socorro, and Belen. She became Director of Nursing for the downtown Presbyterian Hospital. She retired from that position in 1981. She was an active member of the American Nurses Association, while in Michigan, Ohio, and New Mexico. Also the New Mexico Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing, and the American Association of Nursing Service Administrators. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. She was a long time member of AAUW, the American Association of University Women. She was also a member of PEO Chapter BJ. She was published in the American Journal of Nursing and in Supervison Nurse. She enjoyed travel. All fifty states, eleven Canadian provinces, several trips to Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Since retirement, she has been busy with church activities and volunteer work with Meals on Wheels as a nurse visitor and board member. This collection of facts may fail to reflect a woman who loved God, her church, her family and people. She had many great friends. Daniels Funeral home is providing the cremation. RUIZ -- Suzanne Ruiz, 53, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008. She is preceded in death by her father, Eulalio Ruiz. SOUTHER -- Paul Robert Souther, 48, son of Donald and Barbara Souther died suddenly Sunday, April 20, 2008, in an accident. Paul is survived by his daughter, Sarah; and immediate family members, Sean, Kathy, Tom, Carolyn, Mom and Dad, and Kris Vizcaino. He will be remembered for always lending a helping hand to whoever needed it and for always having a smile on his face. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, April 24, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Daniel's Family Funeral Service, 1100 Coal Ave SE. STEADMAN -- Paul Steadman, Jr.(Pablo) age 46, died April 17, 2008. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Mabel Steadman; sister, Tara (Steadman) Posey; and brother, David Steadman. THARP -- William "Don" Tharp, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Mr. Tharp is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Alice; daughters, Linda Banks and husband, Rick, and Stella Smith; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, David and Donny and seven siblings. Don was born in Clovis, NM to Wallace and Mildred Tharp. Don served his country during WWII in the US Navy and the US Marine Corp and was involved in five major battles. William was a long time member of the CJC-LDS. One of his greatest joys was talking to people, he never met a stranger and his family and friends will always remember his personality and smile. Services will be Friday, April 25, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sunport Ward, 8130 Sage Road, SW. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. TRUJILLO -- Greg Trujillo Sr. of San Mateo, New Mexico, passed away suddenly on April 20, 2008. Greg resided in Albuquerque with his wife, Roseann of 35 years. Greg is survived by his son Greg, Jr. and fiancee, Sara Passariello; daughter Amanda and son-in-law Brian White, and granddaughter, Sierra. Greg is survived by one brother, David Trujillo and wife Harriett; two sisters Annie Montano and Frances Garcia, all of Grants, NM. Greg is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Greg was a sworn deputy of the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department providing over 35 years of proud service. Greg was also a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Greg was known by friends and loved ones as "Nacho" and will be missed by many. A loving husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend has left us to return home.
