BARBER, WILLIAM G. a noted architect and aviation enthusiast from Albuquerque, went with the Lord on April 18th to join his wife Flo... A REMARKABLE MAN...He was born in Cypress Hills, NY on April 20, 1922. He was mechanically talented at an early age and his family encouraged all his talents. He graduated from NYU as an aeronautical engineer and got a job with Grumann Aircraft. He started at the bottom to become a master craftsman at forming metal. When World War II started he became a pilot and eventually a service test pilot, testing the Republic P-47 as they were produced, he bailed out twice from a flaming plane and crashed once. This crash produced the evidence of a design error of the radial engine. After recovering, he was sent to England to supervise the reassembly of the P-47 Thunderbolt for combat service. He enjoyed this assignment since his team consisted of all females. After returning to the states, he continued working for Republic on the early fighter jets. After the economy slowed following the war he pursued other engineering opportunities. He moved out West and began designing homes for various movie stars in Hollywood. He moved to Las Vegas in the early fifties and became a consultant architect for several of the early casinos. Other projects included designing a paper mill in Louisiana and part of the design team for Pantex. In 1957, he moved to Albuquerque. For the next forty eight years, he designed numerous commercial and residential buildings throughout the area with companies such as Mossman-Gladden and Flatow-Moore. He eventually opened his own firm, William G. Barber and Associates. During all this, he maintained a passion for flying. He owned numerous airplanes and helped start the local chapter of the EAA in Albuquerque. He was president of the chapter for many years. He was well known in Albuquerque and Oshkosh, Wisconsin for his solutions and assistance to aircraft builders and restorers. He was seemingly limitless with patience and advice. As a general rule, home builders and aviation enthusiasts in the area have Bill's fingerprints all over their projects. He was also an accomplished pianist. He is survived by a brother; two sisters from New York; four children; four stepchildren; ten grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. A memorial will follow at a later date.

BRIGGS, WILLIAM C. passed away in Albuquerque on April 20, 2013, just over 90 years after he was born there to parents Leslie Palmer Briggs and Edith Reagan Briggs in December, 1922. After graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1939, his education at the University of New Mexico was interrupted by World War II, thrusting him into the role of a pilot flying transport missions within the continental United States. After the War he attended Stanford University on the GI Bill, graduating in Political Science in 1946. He turned down an appointment as a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford in order to attend Harvard Law School where he participated in the Legal Aid Bureau. After graduating in 1949, he returned to Albuquerque, where he married Nancy Gay Robb, daughter of UNM Fine Arts Dean John Donald Robb. He was a remarkable parent to his two sons, Christopher and Charles, decades ahead of his time as a father who took major responsibility for their day-to-day care. After briefly starting his own law firm, he joined Rodey, Dickinson, Sloan, Akin, and Robb. He was active in the Democratic Party and served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and Planned Parenthood of New Mexico. Having helped shape The Nature Conservancy's presence in New Mexico as a board member, he became its first State Director, a position that enabled him to visit the New Mexican landscapes he had loved since his childhood and work with biologists in determining which were most in need of protection. His second retirement afforded him more time to pursue his lifelong passion for fly fishing, testing his virtuoso skills on trout in rivers ranging from the San Juan River in New Mexico to those in Argentina and New Zealand, often in the company of Robert Taichert. In 1983, he married Norma Hurley, enjoying over 12 years of romance until her untimely death in 1996. He was just as remarkable a grandparent to Feliciana, Jessie, Matt, Gabi, Rachel, and Gabriel as he was a father to his own sons. He is survived by his loving companion of the last 15 years, Barbara Ellis; son Chris and wife Pat Briggs; son Charles and wife Clara Mantini-Briggs; and his grandchildren. Donations may be made in his memory to The Nature Conservancy, 212 E. Marcy Street, Ste 200, Santa Fe, NM 87501.

COSTELLO, VINCENT A. Vince was husband to Joan; father to Theresa and her husband Joe Redmond, Karen and her husband Keith Fox; Papa to Lindsey Stair and her husband Drew, to Jamie Cline and Maddie Redmond; and greatpapa to Logan Stair. Vince peacefully passed away at home, with Joan by his side on Tuesday, April 16th. A day after having the pleasure of paying estimated taxes one last time. The 8th and last child of Irish immigrants, he was born in the Bronx, NY in 1932 into humble and challenging circumstances. By the grace of God, he survived all that he encountered. As a young adult, the US Air Force took control of his life and fortuitously sent him to England. There he would meet Joan, his future wife and lifelong love. He never forgot his New York roots as he remained an avid NY Giants and Yankees fan all of his life. He was a great man who worked hard, provided well, loved his family, and generously shared all that he had. It was our privilege to be his family. He shall always be loved, respected, and missed. GALLEGOS, ALEJANDRO JR. Age 97, born on a cold autumn day on the Family Ranch in La Cienega, NM to Alejandro Sr. and Dolores (Lola) Rael Gallegos, October 19th 1915. Alejandro Gallegos Jr came into this world with a readymade shovel in his hand! Alejandro was taught the value of hard work and a strong will to survive until his last breath. He grew up in times of hardship and of beauty. He lived two lifetimes, once at a time almost forgotten here in New Mexico, when everything was still wide open, when there were sheep and cattle camps strewn out from La Cienega to Cerrillos, Madrid to Golden and back to Santo Domingo and Pena Blanca. A time when mining was still going on all over these areas as well. Times of horse drawn wagons, saddle horses, which were the only means of transportation and working the ranch. These were times when they raised and grew their own food and the word organic probably didn't exist then. These were times when Dad had most of his precious memories. And a second modern life time when times changed after WWII which he served in the Army diligently and proudly! Times when Radio, TV and gas powered vehicles took place of the old ways of life! Alejandro Gallegos Jr was living history and heritage that will continue with his children, grand children and great grandchildren. And in both worlds that he lived in he had a great respect for the Pueblo cultures From Santo Domino, Cochiti to Santa Ana and Jemez Pueblos and many others, in which he was so much a part of from childhood to just a few years ago when he could still attend their feast days until he was no longer able to! He loved nature, he really loved to watch his conejos, hummingbirds and many other animals in their natural habitats! He was also a master gardener and could grow anything he wanted under the sun, he especially loved his Chile Nativo, Frijol Pinto, Melon y Sandia and all he knew he passed this great knowledge to his children and, hopefully will be passed to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also worked as a painter for Los Alamos National Labs and in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alejandro was a living legend in his time, and lived a full life, so that we thought we would have him forever! Alejandro peacefully fell asleep in the arms of our Lord on April 24, 2013, and we will miss him dearly . He is survived by sister, Ernestina Carrillo; sisters-in-law Philly Gallegos, Minnie Gallegos; brother-in-law Ray Tapia; children, Raymond Gallegos, Kathy Montoya, Daniel Gallegos, Lorenzo Gallegos and wife Camille Bernal Gallegos, Frank Gallegos, and Lori Gallegos; twelve grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Alejandro was preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro Gallegos Sr and Dolores (Lola) Rael Gallegos, brothers and sisters: Victor Gallegos and wife Maida Gallegos, Antonio Gallegos, Samuel Gallegos, Octaviana Gallegos de Lopez, Maria Gallegos, Cecilia Gallegos Tapia, daughter-in-law Camille Gallegos, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at St. Anne Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment with full military honors will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

GARCIA, DANIEL GERALD JR. In Memory of Daniel Gerald Garcia Jr. August 11, 2003 - April 28, 2006 They say time heals all wounds, but I don't believe that's true. For no amount of time could ever heal the wound of losing you. Time does not heal all wounds, A true broken heart is never really healed. And, as for the death of a child, Well, not all things happen for a reason. The death of a child makes no sense and how can something so horrible as the death of a child happen for a reason. Not a day goes by hito that we don't think about you, We love you and miss you more each day. Time did not heal our broken hearts, it only makes us miss you more. Love you forever - Daddy, Mama and sister Leslie

JOHNSON, DIANA LEE Our beloved Diana went peacefully to be with her Lord in the presence of her family, Monday, April 22, 2013, following a bold and courageous struggle with cancer. We are eternally grateful to her parents, Keller and Ethyl Jones for bringing her into our world in Detroit, Michigan in what feels to be just a short time ago. Upon graduation from Ottawa University, Ottawa, KS, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Diana became certified with the American Association of Medical Technologists after passing its national exams and thereafter began a professional career as a Medical Technician in Spokane, WA. Her first assignment was in the Bacteriology Department at Deaconess Hospital. Soon thereafter she met Bradley J. Johnson there in Spokane, married, and subsequently started with Bradley the family she prioritized, so adored and came to be known for amongst her family, relatives and friends. Diana eventually gave up her medical career to support her husband's career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force which enabled them to travel and live in England and throughout the U.S. while raising their family. Diana and Brad were happily married and shared 44 beautiful years together until his passing in 1998. Diana loved to travel the world, camp and watch Brad fish. While living in Hawaii and California she painted scores of landscapes, flowers and food remarkably well. She relished snow skiing, was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. Birthdays and holidays with family and friends were always very special to her. She lived with dignity and grace. Diana was a mindful and caring daughter, loyal and supportive sister, loving and devoted wife, adoring and encouraging mother, and a wonderful and reliable friend to many. She felt it an honor to be a mother and a privilege to be a friend. Diana loved our Lord Jesus Christ and was a devout Christian, albeit very human. She will be missed immeasurably! Diana has now joined her beloved husband, Bradley, and their first child, Cheryl Lynn, in heaven; yet leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, Steven B. Johnson of Albuquerque, Randal S. Johnson and wife Monica of Los Alamos, and Lance S. Johnson of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Zachary of Albuquerque, Tanner of Los Alamos, Katelyn of Las Cruces, Brandon and Hannah, both of Albuquerque; and her sister, Sharon N. SINGLETARY, STEPHEN J. Age 49. My dear Stephen, (Sweet Pea) you have fought this terrible cancer for the last year and four months with such courage, strength and dignity. You kept the good faith until the end and not knowing when the end would be. I admire your strength physically, emotionally, but most of all spiritually. Your faith in God was strong. My heart is broken and my pain is immense. I will miss you until I see you again in heaven and there will be no more tears. I will see you in heaven. Love your wife. WRIGHT, ROGER D. On November 14th, 1946 at 3:45 PM in East Chicago, Indiana, June and Lawrence Wright welcomed their only son, Roger Duane, into this world. At the age of 5, Roger, his sisters and his mother boarded the Santa Fe Railway Super Chief and left Indiana forever to join Roger's dad in Albuquerque. It was during this train ride that Roger found himself glued to the window as the train approached Glorieta Pass. He was captivated by the cliffs of the landscape, the red rocks, the trees, the high mountains of the Sangre de Cristos and that big turquoise sky. It was a new world and he could not wait to explore. As a young boy he spent every moment on the ditch banks near his home in the South Valley, riding his bike and looking for bits of history such as old pottery chards and later in life learned he was living near the Atrisco Mound. Roger received his Bachelors from UNM in 1969 and his Masters in 1978. UNM changed the way he saw himself and the way he interacted with the world. Education and doing whatever it takes to stay in school became a priority for him. He loved the anthropology department and spent endless hours in the Maxwell Museum where he was "allowed" down into the basement. He was amazed at the history it held. If he wasn't engaged at the museum, he was "working out" at Johnson Gym. He loved to train. It started when he was 19 and lasted the rest of his life. University life was not without its struggles. There was one semester when he could not afford his books but they were at Zimmerman Library, but not available for checkout. Well, Roger put his charms to work and sure enough, he managed to sweet-talk the librarian into letting him check the books out for a few days then check them back in and turn right around and check them back out! He was so smart and he was full of determination. Failure was not an option. He married Regina Gonzales on Jan. 31, 1969 at the UNM Alumni Chapel. In December of 1969, he and Regina welcomed their only child, the light of his life, Anndee Marie, into this world. Anndee married Marvin Kirk Brown in 1991 and in 1992, they welcomed Roger's only grandchild, Beau, the joy of his life. Roger loved to hunt, camp and fish and somewhere along the way he discovered the art of fly fishing and the real passion began. He started working at the old H. Cook Sporting Goods store in downtown Albuquerque. It was there that he opened up a "lay-a-way" account and, alas, began a life time of purchasing fly fishing gear. The San Juan River welcomed Roger with open arms and he returned its love back to the water. Roger had a beautiful "lyrical base" voice. He loved to sing and performed occasionally for the public. How many of you have ever stood center court at the UNM Pit and sung the National Anthem, acappella, in front of 17,000+ Lobo fans? Roger did. He did it twice! Regina remembers being anxious and saying to him "what if you forget the words, what if you get pitchy? Yikes!" Roger just laughed and consoled her and all her worst fears. "Regina, it is only one minute and 18 seconds out of my life. I can forget the words, I can get pitchy, I can forget the words AND get pitchy or I can nail it". Well, both times he nailed it. This was the philosophy that guided him through life. He was absolutely fearless and it enabled him to experience life fully every day. He had no regrets, he just kept moving forward. He just didn't know any better. His years at APS were hugely important to him. How would anyone begin to measure the positive impact he had on the lives of so many? He was a true educator, principal, advocate and protector of children. He truly understood that their lives are in the hands of those who teach well. He always brought the best of himself and brought out the best in those around him. He brought everything to his work. He was magic. He wasn't perfect but he was always gracious and kind and he owned his missteps. His heart was huge and he really knew how to laugh at himself. Now, Roger's Kingdom has come and he rests in the arms of his Creator, his Lord, Jesus Christ. We will miss you Poppi, you were so much fun! Thank you for all the wonderful times we shared, the beautiful words you said to us, the blessings you gave us. We will remember it all. Well done Poppi! We love you! Regina, Anndee, Kirk and Beau. We would like to thank the Physicians and Staff of NMOHC, the Physicians and Staff of Head and Neck Surgeons of NM, the Physicians and Staff of MDAnderson in Houston Tx., and the Staff of Presbyterian Hospice. We thank you all and will remember your kindness. In lieu of flowers, Roger would smile if you made a donation to the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation at 4901 Lang Ave. NE, ABQ, NM 87109. Please join us Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 2:00 PM, at the Performing Arts Center at Cibola High School to celebrate Roger's life.
