BACA -- Levi E. Baca, 82, passed away at home, peacefully, surrounded by his beloved wife, son, and daughters on Sunday, October 3, 2004, after a long illness of Alzheimer's. He is preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Griego; and is survived by his wife, Alice of 58 years; son, Lee and wife, Kathy; daughters, Peggy and Debbie Baca, Lupe Rodrigues and husband, Ricardo; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Abraham, Fermin, and Adam Baca. Levi was a WWII Veteran and a Sandia Labs retiree. Prior to his illness, he was active in the choir of the El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church. He was also a volunteer at the Store House and active in senior baseball, volleyball, and the fisherman's club. A Prayer service is planned for Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. A Church service will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church, 7th & Granite NW with burial following at Sunset Memorial Park. CARRANZA -- Alejandra (Nana) Carranza, 16 months, a gorgeous gift from God, went home on October 2, 2004. She is survived by parents, Luis and Crystal Carranza of Albuquerque; grandparents, Mike and Debbie Chavez of Albuquerque, Maria Catalina Lovo Carranza of Albuquerque, Damacio Alvaro Melendez Aguilar of Albuquerque; and aunts and uncles, April Chavez, Tony Baca, and Javier Carranza. Alejandra was a joyful child; she always gave so much happiness to her family and all who met her. In the 16 months she was here, Alejandra gave and received more love than most receive in a lifetime. Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, 3906 19th Ave. NE, Rio Rancho, NM. CHAVEZ -- Clovis, Sr. At last, God took home his faithful son Clovis Chavez Sr. Clovis Chavez Senior, 87, a Peralta native, died peacefully in the loving watch of his family Friday, October 1, 2004. Clovis Chavez was a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and an outstanding member of his community. Clovis is well known for his valiant service to our country in WWII. He was captured in the Philippines in 1942, endured the Baatan Death March, withstood years of imprisonment, only to survive by the grace of God. He returned home to Peralta where he started a family and a legacy of community service. Clovis was the postmaster in Peralta for 25 years, and even ran the Peralta Post Office from his home. Clovis could often be seen taking walks in the Peralta area and at the Peralta Church, even enduring years of confinement arose from his struggles to be the most joyful, happy, generous, and loving man anyone could hope to meet. Clovis' most important and enduring legacy is his family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Remijo and Francisquita Chavez; his brother and sisters, Nestora Chavez; Proceso Chavez; Rafelita Baca; and Emma Gabaldon; and a little grandson, Florencio Clovis Chavez. Clovis is survived by his sons, Clovis Chavez Jr. and wife, Diane of Peralta; and David Chavez, also of Peralta. Clovis leaves behind his devoted grandchildren, Randy and Tammy Chavez; Greg and Maryanne Chavez; Melanie Chavez and fiancee, Francisco Enriquez, all of Peralta. Clovis is now watching over his beloved great-grandchildren, Julia; Madelynn; Joshua; Cienna; and Hayley who already miss him dearly. Clovis also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, all of which were very dear to his heart. As grandpa always said, "See you in the funnies on Sunday!" All services for Clovis will be held at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in Valencia beginning with a viewing on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Valencia Catholic Cemetery. CHAVEZ -- Mr. Louis G. Chavez, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side on October 2, 2004. Mr. Chavez is the beloved husband to Virigina Chavez, married for 58 years. Mr. Chavez is also survived by his seven loving children, John Chavez and wife, Ilona, Barbara Jaramillo and husband, Bob, Margaret Chavez, Christine Rostro and husband, Dave, Nash Chavez and wife, Dina, Patricia Masserini and husband, Tom, and Martin Chavez; two sisters, Josefita Benavidez and husband, Boleslo, and Petrita Humphrey and husband, George; one brother, Jose "Seferino" Chavez and wife, Mary; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Chavez was preceded in death by his son, Robert Louis Chavez. Mr. Chavez was a member of the Catholic Church, and a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War I I. A visitation for Mr. Chavez will be Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at San Martin Catholic Church, 8301 Camino San Martin SW, with Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. by Father Anthony Bolman. CHAVEZ -- Senaida G. Chavez, 90, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister was called home by our Heavenly Father, Sunday October 2, 2004. Senaida was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque since her birth on February 8, 1914. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin L. Chavez; and her sons, Jesse Chavez in 1976; and Albert Chavez in July of 2004. Senaida is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Apodaca and her husband, Robert; and her son, Gilbert Chavez and his wife, Lisa; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; her four sisters, Isabel Stubblefield; Celia Gurule; Ofelia Perea; and Gladys Baca. She was loved by many and always had a smile for everyone she met. Her home was the spot for family members and friends to gather and drink coffee and eat her wonderful cooking. Senaida loved to go to the casino with her sister Celia, her daughter Lorraine, and her granddaughter Audra. Senaida took great and loving care of all her family all the way up until the end. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. CRISWELL -- Mary Margaret Hibbs Criswell, 74, a resident of Albuquerque for fifty-six years, died Saturday, October 2, 2004. She is survived by her son, Daniel; bothers and sisters, Arthur Hibbs of Minneapolis, MN, Dorothy Riley of East Lansing, MI, Morris H. Hibbs of El Paso, TX, Clara Montgomery of Loveland, CO, Forrest Hibbs of Loveland, CO, Benjamin Hibbs of Kansas City, KS; and sister-in-law, Pat Hibbs of Albuquerque; 13 nieces; and 16 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Nathan Hibbs; and her brother, Alvin L. Hibbs of Albuquerque. She was born and raised in Kansas. She graduated from Leavenworth, Kansas Senior High School, moved to Albuquerque in 1948, worked at Sandia Laboratories, and later was District Manger of TupperWare. CURRY -- Albert Leonard Curry, Jr. passed on to be with Our Lord on October 2, 2004. Mr. Curry was born on August 16, 1920 in Waco, TX and lived there with his mother, Josephine and brother, James T. Curry until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941. He married Elsa Rae Farrow Curry from Rusk, TX in 1942 and then went to North Africa to serve his country in WWII. Mr. Curry was an automobile dealer in San Antonio, TX, Albuquerque and Santa Fe NM, and Austin, TX, where he retired in 1985. Mr. Curry was widowed in January 1971. He is survived by his son, Donald L. Curry from San Antonio; his daughter, Deborah Curry Lusk from Georgetown; his granddaughters, Sarah, Jessica, Kelly, Rachel, and Jamie; and great-granddaughters, Kaymin and Josephine. His sister-in-law, Virginia Curry, and her children, Susan, Jeff, Phillip, Phyllis, Caroline, and Pat, are all from Waco. Mr. Curry's cousin, Charles Sikes, and his long time friend and companion, Muriel Pilgrim are both from Austin. His dear friend Edda Hallford is from Sugarland. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Waco, TX, at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Peace be with you.

GONZALES -- Reynaldo "Rey" our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away on October 3, 2004. A life-long New Mexico resident, he was born in Las Vegas on November 22, 1922. He moved to Albuquerque in 1952 where he resided until his passing. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rose; his children, Larry and wife, Kathy, daughter Margaret and husband, Charles Gutierrez, son John, son, Richard and wife, Maria; his grandchildren, Jamie and Lynea Gonzales, Natalie, Charles, and Cassandra Gutierrez, Luz Alondra and husband, Shane Fisher; two sisters, Emma Madrid and Stella Gonzales of Las Vegas, NM; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. He was a veteran of World War II who served from October 1941 to November 1945 with the United States Air Force in the South Pacific. Rey retired in 1989 from Sandia Labs after 40 years of service. He was a devout parishioner at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church since 1959. Rey was the beloved patriarch, who lovingly placed his wife's, children's and grandchildren's needs, wants, and accomplishments ahead of his own. A viewing will be held at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2004. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5311 Phoenix NE, following the viewing. GREENWOOD -- Marcia B. Greenwood, 83, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, October 3, 2004. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Greenwood and wife, Rheta of Albuquerque; daughter, Dorothy Stys and partner, Tom Hale of California; son, Donald Greenwood and partner, Lee Kovasala of New Jersey; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Vivian Schotte of Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Greenwood in 1992. Mrs. Greenwood was a resident of Bound Brook, NJ from 1941 to 1972. She worked as a teller and trainer at a local bank in Bound Brook for several years. Mrs. Greenwood was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. HALL -- Nora Hall, 89, a resident of Lubbock, TX, and formerly of Albuquerque, died on Friday, October 1, 2004 in Lubbock, TX. JARAMILLO -- Arturo Carlos Jaramillo, age 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle was called to be at peace with his Heavenly Father on October 3, 2004. He was born February 4, 1918 and proudly served his country in the Air Corps during WWII. After WWII, Arturo operated a dairy farm in Tome for over 30 years. He loved history and geography and always encouraged the pursuit of higher education. His witty jokes, beautiful smile and passion for life will be missed by all. Arturo was preceded in death by his father, Carlos Jaramillo; his mother, Aurora Aguirre Jaramillo; and his brothers, Albert, Max, Luis, Telesfor, Carlos, and Menard Jaramillo. He is survived by his wife, Sophia Mireles Jaramillo; his sister, Sofie and her husband, Solomon Martinez; his sons, Arthur R. of Albuquerque, NM, Martin G. of Tome, NM, and Francis E.M. and his wife, Yolanda of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter, Elizabeth A. and her husband, Todd Braun of San Antonio, TX; his grandchildren, Amavalise F., Francisco P., Orlando L. LOVATO -- Rudy A. Lovato, 48, a resident of Bernalillo, slipped away to be with the Lord Sunday, October 3, 2004, after a courageous battle against cancer. He is survived by his parents, Armelino and Vickie Lovato of Bernalillo; four brothers, David and wife, Geri and their daughter Cassy; Leroy and wife, Patricia and their daughters, Natalie and Kristen; Jake and wife, Tania and their daughters, Madalyn and husband, Mike Sandstrom who is serving in Iraq, and their daughter, Reagan Victoria; and Joylynn Lovato; and Raymond Lovato; a sister, Janet and husband, Nelson Martinez, and their daughters, Melanie, Sarah, and Angelica. He was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Lovato. Rudy was a member of the Jesus Loves Cowboys Rodeo Ministry and was loyal and compassionate to a host of friends. He always made time for family and friends and was a great inspiration to us all. He served two years with the U. S. Army and four years with the U. S. Army Reserve. His life was ministering at Bull Riding Events and Rodeos to Cowboys. Rudy was employed by the Sandoval County Road Dept., and he was an active and dedicated member of Oasis Family Church. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Natalie Marshal of the New Mexico Cancer Center for her caring dedication. The family would also like to thank the nurses of Presbyterian-Kaseman Hospice Unit. Services will be Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Montgomery Church of Christ, 7291 Montgomery Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery in Bernalillo. From Espirito Santo in the New Hebridies to New Georgia in the Solomon Islands. He returned stateside in 1944 and back to the Pacific to Okinawa 1945. Lieutenant Merrill received his discharge at Fort Bliss, TX January 1946 and came back to Albuquerque, "the place he loved so well," and where he had resided the past 58 years. He was the owner and operator of a Chevron Service Station for 27 years and also was employed by the FAA for 15 years, from which he retired in 1982. In his early years after the war he had an Air Taxi Service and was a Certified Flight Instructor in Albuquerque. MOBLEY -- Richard (Dick) C. Mobley, age 58, of Aztec, NM, left this world on Friday, October 1, 2004 after putting up a hard fight with emphysema and diabetes. He was born May 25, 1946 in Albuquerque, NM to Herb and Odell Mobley Cartmel. Dick worked several years in the oil field and retired from the BHP-Navajo Mine. Survivors include his wife, Judy Mobley of the home in Aztec; one son, Scott Mobley and wife, Angie of Paris, TX; two daughters, Kelly Blyton and husband, Bobby and Jackie Martinez, all of Henderson, NV. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Cody Dixon, Justin and Blaine Mobley of Paris, TX; Taylor, Kaleb, Bailey, and Allison Blyton, Jacob Falkman of Henderson, NV; and one sister, Denise Borger of Brunswick, OH; as well as many other family members, close friends, and neighbors. PUCKETT -- John Milton, age 73, died Sunday, October 3, 2004. He was born October 27, 1930 in Rogers, AR, grew up in rural NM, graduated from Deming High School, and spent most of his adult years in Albuquerque. A graduate of University of New Mexico, he was a civil engineer with the NM State Highway Dept. and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; son, Timothy John Puckett and daughter-in-law, Julie Puckett of Traverse City, MI; daughter, Theresa Jean Puckett of San Francisco, CA; and granddaughters, Megan Eve and Abigail Elyse Puckett of Traverse City, MI. He was a member of ASCE, NSPE, Chi Epsilon, NARFE, First Presbyterian Church, and bowled for many years in the YMCA Church League. In retirement he volunteered at the Menaul Historical Library and enjoyed genealogy, reading, stamp-collecting, and travel. He was a 50 year UNM alumnus and a loyal Lobo fan. He loved New Mexico, Ghost Ranch, and the Jemez Mountains. SANCHEZ -- Mary G. Sanchez, 87, a resident of Bosque Farms, NM passed away on Friday, October 1, 2004. She was born on November 24, 1916 and raised in Belen, NM, was an honor student and graduate at St. Mary's Catholic School. She later graduated from Belen High School. Mary was a devoted Girl Scout leader and in 1955 her family was chosen family of the year by Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She was a strong supporter of school events with her children including traveling to Washington DC with a high school group and attending out of town basketball games with the team as chaperone. Mary loved to travel. She was a talented designer and hand sewer of quilts. Mary was also an avid weekly bingo player at The Bosque Farms Community Center and volunteered at the VA Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jose Modesto Sanchez; her daughter, Tina Peralta; her son-in-law, Alex Peralt;a and her parents, Patrocinio and Aurelia Gurule. Mary is survived by her five daughters, Gloria Stanley and husband, Lee of Bosque Farms, NM; Becky Luna and husband, Albert of Los Lunas, NM; Barbara Sicotte and husband, David of Laguna Niguel, CA; Patricia Fernandez and husband, Richard of Lemitar, NM; and Eileen Sanchez and husband, John Ford of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Margaret Gurule; brother, George Gurule; and sister-in-law, Crucita Gurule; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. All services took place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a viewing on Monday, October 4, 2004 at 6:45 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. with interment following at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. SLIPEK -- Martha Slipek, 90, a resident of Los Lunas, NM since 1976, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2004. She was an active member of the Valley Lutheran Church. She worked for ten years at Heager Pottery in her hometown, Dundee, IL. She then moved to Los Lunas and worked for the next ten years as a secretary at The Sandia Base Warehouse. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Louis Slipek; two sisters; and three brothers. Martha is survived by her loving children, Eugene Slipek and his wife, Loretta of Albuquerque, Glenn Slipek of Phoenix, AZ, Mary Ann Barnett of Los Lunas; a special twin sister, Marie Bowers of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be celebrated at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, October 6 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Albuquerque following the service. THIEKEN -- Pauline Anderson Thieken, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1986, died September 27, 2004. She is survived by her brother, Harold L. Anderson and wife, Dorigen of Albuquerque; niece, Vicki L. Stewart and husband, Michael Spearman of TX; great-nephews, Chris Stewart and wife, Stephanie and Matthew Stewart, all of Spearman, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Thieken. Mrs. Thieken was born to Edward and Edna Anderson on October 18, 1926 in Fullerton, Kentucky. Mrs. Thieken grew up and attended McKell High School. She married Ralph Theiken. She was an artist for Selby Shoe Co. where she sketched the model shoes. She was a self-taught artist where she painted and drew beautiful portraits for friends and family. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Pauline was a kind, loving, and generous person and everyone grew to love her more and more. VIGNA -- Sergio Vigna, 72, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2004. He is survived by his sister, Franca Vigna of Italy; longtime companion, Rosemarie Romero; and numerous other family and friends. He was born in Italy and came to the United States in 1956. WALKER -- Dale B. Walker passed away in the peace and comfort of the family home on October 1, 2004. Dale was born in Raton, NM on November 13, 1925 to Dale B. and Iva Bess Walker. His parents; son, Jason; brother, David; and sister, Mary preceded him in death. He is survived by Dorothy Anderson Walker; daughter, Julie; sons, Cody and Kitry; sister, Robin Walker; and very special friends Jimmie and Barbara Goldstein. He served in the Army Air Corps at Lowrey Field during WWII. He entered the University of New Mexico in 1946 and received his JD from George Washington University in 1948. While in Washington he served as secretary and clerk for Senator Dennis Chavez. Dale developed lifelong friendships all over the state when the Senator visited his constituents. Upon graduation from GW, he returned to Albuquerque to practice law. Dale formed a partnership with Peter Gallagher and they practiced law together for 18 years. After Peter retired, Dale enjoyed a solo practice for 14 years. Dale was instrumental in working with Wilhelmina Coe in developing the Heights YMCA. He served on the Western Streams Commission and enjoyed working closely with the late Steve Reynolds. Dale was very involved with his children in Little League, YAFL, and Boy Scouts. Dale taught all his children how to hunt fish and set up a comfortable camp. Dale retired in 1989 to his cabin in Ute Park, NM. He enjoyed fishing Eagle Nest lake, reading Western History, biographies of the founding fathers and presidents, and watching the New York Yankees. He also made sure that all the birds and squirrels and foxes had plenty to eat. He loved his family his country, and especially New Mexico. Friends and family are invited to gather at the family house, 6308 Natalie Ave NE, from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6th. As Dale would always say, "Keep the faith my friend."

WHITING -- Lt. Col. (Ret.) Herbert R. Whiting, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, October 3, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gwendolyn M. Whiting of the family home; daughters, Valerie W. Brewer of Heidelberg, Germany; Rebecca W. Sheppard and husband, Patrick of Ft. Worth, TX; Laurie W. Morgenstern of Ft. Worth, TX; son, Scott R. Whiting and girlfriend, Debbie Nix of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Stephanie L. and Kimberly W. Sheppard of Ft. Worth, TX; and Mark A. and Erik C. Brewer of Germany; a brother, Dr. Adolph M. Whiting and wife, Jeanne of Seattle, WA; and his beloved dogs, B.G. and Goldie. Lt. Col. Whiting was a member of ACICV. He served in the Philippines and in Occupied Japan from 1944-1946. He re-enlisted in the Army in 1948 and served continuously until his retirement in December 1971. His overseas duties included Iceland, Germany, Panama and two, one-year tours of Vietnam. During his years of service he earned two Bronze Stars with Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Republic of Viet Nam Commendation Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. He was most proud of his Combat Infantry Badge. Lt. Col. Whiting's military career after WWII was devoted to Counter and Military Intelligence. The only rank he never held was Corporal. His children fondly remember the countless croquet, Monopoly, baseball and card games he played with them. In addition, they went on numerous fishing trips and golf excursions. Through these and many other activities, his children always knew they were loved. He was an avid fisherman and golfer who once shot a hole-in-one. Services will be Thursday, October 7, 2004, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel.
