CORDOVA, DENNIS ROBERT 1940-2014 Dennis Robert Cordova, age 74, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born June 29, 1940 in Belen, New Mexico to Manuel and Trinnie Baca Cordova. Together with his eight brothers and sisters, he did not have the easiest youth, but his family's house was always filled with laughter and music, which became a significant part of his personality. For a man who never finished high school, Dennis graduated from the University of New Mexico (UNM) with a Bachelor of Arts, and a Master from San Diego State University. In his early career, he worked for the Public Service Company of New Mexico. He was at the same time President of the Belen Chapter of the Jaycees. His easiness with all kinds of people and his ability to communicate made him a highly appreciated and also respected person. Therefore, after his studies, he became a primary school teacher for a Catholic School in Chula Vista. He then moved to Albuquerque in the late 1980s, where he started a successful General Educational Development (GED) Program for UNM. Taking his skills in Education, he became Head of Education for a US Correctional Facility. Here, he met with former President Fox of Mexico, to bring a Mexican GED program to inmates. Retired in Grants, he volunteered in both Obama campaigns and was also a Poll Worker for many elections. Dennis Cordova also loved to dance, golf, motorcycle, baseball (St. Louis Cardinals), puzzles, Johnny Cash and John Wayne. He was preceded in his death by his wife (the true love of his life), Deola who passed away much too early; as well as his parents; his brothers, Raymond and Ruben; and his niece, Ericka. He leaves behind his children: Jon Conrad Cordova and husband, Thomas Biland, Corine "CC" Cordova, Chris Cordova and wife, Cindy, Cindy Mitchell and husband, Eric. Dennis loved his grandchildren who will miss him dearly: Daniele, Jonathan and Kristina Martinez, Curtis and Shay Cordova, Austin and Cody Cordova, Anne-Sophie and Gregory Biland, and the apple of his eye, his great-granddaughter, Liliana. He is also survived by his brothers, Toby and Ernie Cordova; his sisters, Rosie Montoya and husband, Henry, Margaret Montoya and husband, Joe, Anna Upton and husband, Tony, Donna Bergevin and husband, Don; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Dennis loved life and had an incredible belief in the good in human beings. Being surrounded by his kids and family made him truly happy. He was a warm hearted, positive with a mischievous side, who spread harmony and peace. He will be remembered as living his life the way he wanted, to the fullest because he was "JUST LIKE COLOR TV". A Funeral Mass will take place at Romero Funeral Home in Belen on Saturday, October 4th at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. It is requested to wear red or something with the Cardinals in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in the Dennis Cordova Memorial Fund, Bank of Albuquerque, P.O. Box 26027, Albuquerque, NM 87125-6027. CROMER, ROBERT A. A compassionate soul, published writer and an around-the- fireplace philosopher, passed away August 21, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 60. He had a love for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears, green chile stew, good German beer and most things Mopar. Born in Milwaukee, WI on September 23, 1953, Robert was raised mostly in Chicago, IL where he met and married his best friend and soul mate, Patricia. Though the two almost let a pickle - yes, a dill pickle - decide their fate, they married May 28, 1978 and went on to have two - dare we say amazing - children and eventually made the move to Albuquerque, NM. Once in NM, Robert was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with his second family in Laguna Pueblo for 16 years as the Director of the Alcohol, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Program. Throughout his years in Laguna, Robert was inspired to return to college at the age of 50, where he earned his master's degree in Public Administration. Always laughing and telling Jokes, Robert was an easy-going guy with a real passion for helping others, which was something he shared immensely with his wife. He and Patricia founded a non-profit organization (North Campus Community Project) to inspire neighbors and their surrounding community to work together in order to help other less fortunate neighbors meet their needs and to enhance the quality of their community-at-large. As many may not have guessed, Robert had been partial to collecting jackets, belts and shoes and passed this tradition on to his daughter, Rana, who has since added purses to the mix. In addition to style variety and the "Comer smile", Robert also passed on his writing talents to his daughter for good measure. He coached his son, Justin, from t-ball to high school baseball and even though he was harder on him than anyone else on the team, it helped shape Justin into the remarkable man and devoted father he is today. To honor equality among siblings, Robert also shared his love of American muscle cars and good classic rock with both children. Appropriately proclaimed by Robert's son-in-law, Leo, going to the Comer house was like being in music appreciation class, only better because there was incredible company and great food. Tunes were always playing and laughter was a constant around the dinner table. Nights there always ran late and no one would get home until at least midnight. Family was the single most important thing to Robert and he made sure his wife and children always knew how much they were loved. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Day) Comer; daughter, Rana (Comer) Doyal and husband Leo, III; son, Justin Comer and wife Sheena (Hawkins); grandchildren Kade and Kylah Comer; lovingly-acquired grandchildren, Hanna, Alec, and Emma Doyal; Travis Jr. and Aria Jones; brothers, Jim Comer of Antioch, IL and Jack Comer of Cold Springs, TX; and sister Ann (Comer) Wallor of Palatine, IL. Robert was predeceased by both parents, Alton Comer and Clara Jean (Thiel) Comer. A celebration of life will be held in honor of Robert on September 27, 2014 at 4:00 pm. Please call (505) 263-4249 for further information.

ELLIS, ROBERT M. Robert (Bob) M. Ellis passed away on September 13, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM at 92. Bob Ellis was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 14, 1922, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, studied art on the GI Bill in Mexico City, and also quietly and emphatically influenced the course of art in Los Angeles and New Mexico. Over six decades, he wore many hats including navigator, painter, designer, educator, fundraiser and museum director. After three years in architecture school, he joined the Navy Construction Division (Seabees), where he built bridges, air strips and roads. After the war, he graduated from the Cleveland Art Institute and traveled to Mexico, where he received his BFA in Art. Like many of his generation, Bob absorbed the vitality of the powerful combination of Mexican culture and surrealism. As a student in Mexico, he encountered the works of Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros and produced paintings in their strong figurative tradition. His departure from those influences, however, came in a series of works on the subject of a merry-go-round that fused the Cubist/Futurist formal tradition with the image of carnival and childhood memories of the medieval armor collections at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Moving to Los Angeles in the 1950's, Bob served as Curator of Education at the Pasadena Art Museum, did graphic design for many, including the California Design Catalog, spent a year painting in Paris, and taught at the University of Southern California. He received his MFA from the same institution. After joining the UNM Art Department, he worked as Assistant Director and Director at the UNM Art Museum in Albuquerque for seven years. He was a professor at UNM for 23 years. After retiring from UNM in 1987, he moved to Taos to paint and became the Director of the Harwood Museum for 12 years. In 1998, he received the New Mexico Governor's Award for support of the Arts, the UNM Regents Meritorious Service Award and the Local Treasure Award. In 2010, the Caroline Lee and Bob Ellis Gallery was inaugurated at the Harwood Museum, honoring Bob's avid dedication to the museum, its education program and his lifelong passion for art. One of his most beloved roles was participating on the Board of Directors of The Mandelman-Ribak Foundation. In 2003, Bob moved back to Albuquerque, where he continued to paint and exhibit works until his death. His work is in numerous collections including the Albuquerque Museum, Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe and the Roswell Museum. Bob married Hazel Taylor Ellis in 1948; in 1958, he married Barbara Shannon Ellis with whom he raised her children, Derek and Wendy. In 1991, he married Caroline Lee, enjoying more than 12 years of partnership and romance until her death in 2003. He is survived by Derek Shannon (Gail), Wendy Shannon (Rick Higgins) and Caroline's daughters, Holly Adams and Erin Adams (Mike Corney), and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, past students and loving and devoted friends. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 3 p.m. at FRENCH Lomas, 10500 Lomas Blvd, NE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Robert M. Ellis to the Outpost Performance Center or Taos Harwood Museum. There will also be a memorial service for Bob in Taos at a later date. William graduated in 1973 from UNM with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and pursued an MBA through the Anderson School of Management. Though born in Chicago, Keith and his family made their home in St. Louis and Tulsa. Keith, however, always called New Mexico home. Keith received his Bachelor's Degree in psychology from Eastern New Mexico State in 1974 and then went on to earn his Master's Degree in counseling from the University of Missouri in 1976.
