CROMER, ROBERT A. A compassionate soul, published writer and an around-the- fireplace philosopher, passed away August 21, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 60. He had a love for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears, green chile stew, good German beer and most things Mopar. Born in Milwaukee, WI on September 23, 1953, Robert was raised mostly in Chicago, IL where he met and married his best friend and soul mate, Patricia. Though the two almost let a pickle - yes, a dill pickle - decide their fate, they married May 28, 1978 and went on to have two - dare we say amazing - children and eventually made the move to Albuquerque, NM. Once in NM, Robert was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with his second family in Laguna Pueblo for 16 years as the Director of the Alcohol, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Program. Throughout his years in Laguna, Robert was inspired to return to college at the age of 50, where he earned his master's degree in Public Administration. Always laughing and telling Jokes, Robert was an easy-going guy with a real passion for helping others, which was something he shared immensely with his wife. He and Patricia founded a non-profit organization (North Campus Community Project) to inspire neighbors and their surrounding community to work together in order to help other less fortunate neighbors meet their needs and to enhance the quality of their community-at-large. As many may not have guessed, Robert had been partial to collecting jackets, belts and shoes and passed this tradition on to his daughter, Rana, who has since added purses to the mix. In addition to style variety and the "Comer smile", Robert also passed on his writing talents to his daughter for good measure. He coached his son, Justin, from t-ball to high school baseball and even though he was harder on him than anyone else on the team, it helped shape Justin into the remarkable man and devoted father he is today. To honor equality among siblings, Robert also shared his love of American muscle cars and good classic rock with both children. Appropriately proclaimed by Robert's son-in-law, Leo, going to the Comer house was like being in music appreciation class, only better because there was incredible company and great food. Tunes were always playing and laughter was a constant around the dinner table. Nights there always ran late and no one would get home until at least midnight. Family was the single most important thing to Robert and he made sure his wife and children always knew how much they were loved. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Day) Comer; daughter, Rana (Comer) Doyal and husband Leo, III; son, Justin Comer and wife Sheena (Hawkins); grandchildren Kade and Kylah Comer; lovingly-acquired grandchildren, Hanna, Alec, and Emma Doyal; Travis Jr. and Aria Jones; brothers, Jim Comer of Antioch, IL and Jack Comer of Cold Springs, TX; and sister Ann (Comer) Wallor of Palatine, IL. Robert was predeceased by both parents, Alton Comer and Clara Jean (Thiel) Comer. A celebration of life will be held in honor of Robert on September 27, 2014 at 4:00 pm.
