ANDERSON -- Dr. Elmo D. Anderson, 93, resident of Albuquerque for the past 54 years, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008. He is survived by two daughters, Kay Maize and husband, Steve and Sherry Anderson Lombana and husband, Cesar, all of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Keirschen Maize Warnica and husband, Josh of Ft. Worth, TX, Landon G. Maize of Phoenix, AZ, Jacqueline Lombana Bunkley and husband, Ken of Albuquerque, Sandra L. Lombana of Covington, LA, and Philip A. Lombana of Albuquerque; two great-grandchildren, Amanda T. Bunkley and Christopher W. Bunkley of Albuquerque; and sister, Rae Davis of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Burnison Anderson. Elmo was born in a farm house in Montague County, TX, the son of Bess and Dee Anderson. He graduated from high school in Bowie, TX in 1933. Elmo then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he waited tables at P.K.'s Sandwich Shop and the Longhorn Waffle Shop to earn money for room and board. He met Mary while they both were attending the university, and they were married in the spring of 1938, the same year that Elmo graduated with his BA degree and was accepted at Baylor Medical School in Dallas, TX. After graduating from Baylor in 1942, he interned one year at Parkland Hospital in Dallas before being called into active service in World War II as a medical officer attached to a U. S. Army engineering regiment. He served in New Guinea and the Philippines as a regimental surgeon, attaining the rank of Major. Following World War II, Elmo practiced general medicine, first in Borger and Friona in the Texas panhandle and then in Clovis, NM. In 1954, the family moved to Albuquerque so Elmo could do a three-year residency in internal medicine at the Veterans Administration Hospital. He then went into private practice, opening an office near the corner of Constitution and San Mateo. He practiced medicine there for 27 years, retiring in 1984 at the age of 70. First and foremost, Elmo Anderson was a dedicated and capable physician, recognized by both his patients and the medical community for his skills and compassion. He was a member of the Albuquerque-Bernalillo Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and the American Society of Internal Medicine. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2008, 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, with Rev. Dr. Mike Elliott and Rev. CORDOVA -- Antonia (Toni) Cordova, 82, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 18, 2008. Mrs. Cordova is survived by her beloved daughters, Roseanne Rodriguez and husband, Joseph, Irma Tapia and husband, Leonard; three grandchildren, Antonio Cordova, Martin Cordova Jr., and Anastacia Borrego; her two sisters, Bernice Varrnese and Rosella Madrid; her brothers, Aber Madrid and Raymond Madrid; her special dog, Jessie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Cordova was preceded in death by her husband, Fermin Cordova; her son, Martin Cordova Sr.; and her daughter, Antoinette Cordova. Mrs. Cordova was a member of the Catholic Church, a member of the Small Christian Community at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary and an honorary A.C.T.S. sister. DODGE -- Homer B. Dodge, age 87, passed peacefully at his home, Tuesday, September 16, 2008. He was born on September 5, 1921 in Dallas, TX. Homer is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Geneva Dodge of the family home; his son, Philip Dodge and wife Anna Marie of Lakeside, CA; stepson, John S. Baldwin of Crofton, MD; his grandchildren, Philip Dodge, Jr., Denise Dodge, John Baldwin and Sally Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Olene Dodge. Homer retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs Navajo Nation area in 1979. He enjoyed sports especially Football. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho. GIBSON -- Shirley Gibson, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1954 died Wednesday, September 17, 2008. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Leroy Gibson; sons, Kenneth Gibson, Les Gibson and wife Leslie, and Curtis Gibson; grandson, Christopher Gibson; and granddaughter, Kimberly Gibson, all of Albuquerque. Shirley was the oldest of eight children all of which survive her. She was born in Blackwell, OK and attended Blackwell schools. She moved to Albuquerque after she and Leroy were married. Shirley was a volunteer at numerous nursing homes for over 20 years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. GILLESPIE -- Delmer K. Gillespie, of Albuquerque departed this Earth September 12, 2008. He was born in Reydon, OK to Roy and Paulene Harris Gillespie on September 28, 1925. Delmer moved to Portales, NM in early 1938, along with his family. He served in the Pacific in WWII in the US Navy aboard LST 558. He then attended three colleges (one semester in Mexico), graduating from ENMU in 1951 with a BA in English and Spanish. After teaching for two years, Delmer worked for the NM HSSD, retiring in 1986 having served as County Director for several counties and as District Director for the period that districts were formed. During his time with HSSD, he attended both Florida State and San Diego State Universities, earning an MA in Social Services. Delmer was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leonard and Dale; sister Theda Rupe; and "special niece" Linda Perkins. He is survived by son Benjamin P.Gillespie; sisters Charlotte Burk of Yucaipa, CA, Flo Miller of Lubbock, TX; brother Ben J. Gillespie of Albuquerque; many nieces and nephews; and two special sisters-in-law. Delmer was a man of many talents and a great humanitarian and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Cremation has taken place and a private Family Service will be held at a later date.

HAMMITT -- James Gordon Hammitt, 79, went Home to be with our Lord on Saturday, September 6, 2008, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hammitt; parents, William Hammitt and Anna Campbell; son, David Hammitt; granddaughters, Valerie Miller and Gina Goodson. He is survived by his daughters, Nikki Squyres and Deborah Shafer; sister, Betty Montgomery and husband, Richard; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six nephews; and numerous cousins. He was a distinguished veteran, having served in the Air Force from 1947-1969. After retiring in Albuquerque, he became very active in Toastmasters, American Lung Association, American Heart Association, and Lifeline. He was also extremely involved with the Boy Scouts before retiring. He continued to remain active after he moved to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C. last year. A Memorial Service will be held on September 27, 2008 at 3:00 p.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church, 11515 Lomas NE, with Pastor Tim Orlowski officiating. Interment will be private, at a later date, at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

IRELAND -- Arthur ("Art") T. Ireland, 83, passed away on September 15, 2008 with his loving family at his side. Art was born to Glen and Hattie Ireland on February 28, 1925 in Miles City, MT. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and soon after met Barbara Funkhouser. She was 14 years old and Art was taken in by her beauty and spirit. He courted her through letters overseas and they married on June 6, 1947 in Honolulu, HI. Art and Barbara raised three children together. They spent 61 years happily married and as observed by those around them, developed a greater respect for each other with every passing year. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corp in World War II as a gunner in torpedo bombers in the Pacific battles of Okinawa, Iwo Jima and the Battle of the Coral Sea. After Art's service in the military, he had a very successful career as a Locomotive Engineer on the Milwaukee Railroad and as a Safety Inspector for the Federal Railroad Administration, D.O.T. Those who had the privilege of knowing Art, would describe him as kind, hard-working, and always willing to help others. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Barbara; daughter, Cyndee O'Hara; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Lee Maxwell; son, Todd Ireland; mother-in-law, Bess Funkhouser; and brother-in-law, Paul Funkhouser. He was known as "Papa" to his five grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. He is further survived by his siblings, sister and brother-in-law, Harriett and Winfred Polzin; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Gwen Ireland; brother and sister-in-law, William and June Ireland; and many nieces and nephews. KEMM -- Robert "Bob" P. Kemm, 68, a life long New Mexico resident, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2008. He is survived by his children, John Vincent Kemm, Leslie Michelle Kemm, and Eric Adrian Kemm, all of Albuquerque; grandson, Michael John Kemm of Albuquerque; aunt, Ester Pray of Albuquerque; and other relatives and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert B. Kemm and Sophie Lucero Kemm. He was born on May 27, 1940 in Las Vegas, NM and graduated from Valley High School in Albuquerque before attending and graduating from UNM with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and a minor in Math. Bob received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Highlands University. He worked for the Department of Energy as a Budget Analyst until his retirement in 1994. Bob was a loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at 4:00 p.m., at Hillside Community Church, 435 Jefferson St. SE.

KENNEDY -- BARBARA BERNIE February 19, 1936 - September 18, 2008 Barbara Bernie Kennedy Mrs. Barbara B. Kennedy of Meridianville, AL passed away Thursday at her daughter's home in Meridianville, AL. She was 72. Mrs. Kennedy was a native of Georgia and a former resident of Hobbs, NM for a number of years. Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Courtright; one son, Scott Kennedy; her mother, Ernestene Hull; one sister, Jeanne Burcham; two grandchildren, Matthew Gunn and Wesley Gunn; and one great-granddaughter: Ellie Gunn. KUELLMER -- Jane Clare Myers Kuellmer, 81, of Las Cruces, NM passed away on September 12, 2008. Jane was born on June 23, 1927 in Flossmoor, IL to Lawrence Stanley and Jane Myers. Jane received her BS in 1950 in Physical Science from the University of Chicago. In 1950, Jane moved to Socorro, NM. She received her Teachers Certificate in 1973 from New Mexico Tech University. She was a licensed Insurance Agent, she served on Governor King's Commission on Aging, she was active in the Episcopal Church and was very active in local politics. Other notible organizations she was included in were the AAUW, Good Samaritan, Red Cross, Socorro Mental Health Foundation Board Member, Socorro Public Library, El Puente, the Socorro General Hospital where she was also a board member, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Sweet Adelines Enchanted Mesa, Square Dancers Club, Civitan, and the NM Tech Community Theater. Jane is survived by her brother and his wife, Lawrence and Janet Myers of Potomac, MD, sister-in-law Bernice Baumann of Chicago, IL. Her children Ellen Kuellmer, Louise Springer, and Lawrence J. Kuellmer and his wife Wanda. Her grandchildren Justin Dehnert, Anthony DiGiacco, Victoria Springer, Melinda Hefner, and Asia Kuellmer. She is preceded in death by her husband Frederick Kuellmer; and daughter Marcia Jane Kuellmer Dehnert. LITTLE -- Jenny Lou Little died on Sept 19, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on September 23, 1932 in Nugent, Texas to Lee Adolphus Johnson and Mary Penelope Hodges Johnson. She attended high school in Lovington, NM until she had her two most prized treasures: daughter Peggy and son Tommy. Jenny was married to Lloyd W. Little or "Pops" for forty-one years. They lived in Hobbs, NM, Phoenix AZ and Albuquerque, NM before moving to Odessa in 2004. When Jenny lived in Hobbs, she owned and operated Jenny Lou's Golden Spur Lounge, the premier night spot in Southeastern NM. She never met a stranger, which was instrumental in her professional success as a real estate broker in Albuquerque, NM where she was one of the most sought out Re/Max realtors. She called selling real estate the "dream of a lifetime." She worked all of her life and instilled that same work ethic in her two children. Jenny loved to play bridge, or at least she loved to "bid" when playing bridge. She was an avid golfer, a great dancer and she made "World Famous" fried chicken. She leaves behind a lot of fun memories from a several state area. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister Mary Nell Miller, her sister Betty Sue Randles, and her brother Charles Sonny Johnson, as well as "Prada the wonder dog" and a host of lifetime friends, all of whom were waiting for her with open arms on Friday. She is survived by her husband Lloyd, her daughter Peggy J Dean and son-in-law Ken, her son Thomas W. Powell (the family acknowledged "favorite") and his wife Peggy, her granddaughter Sara Kate Billingsley, and her little dog Missy, all of Odessa, Texas. She is also survived by two step grandchildren Jason Dean and Jadie Moore of Dallas, Texas; a very special niece Deanna Johnson of Washington; brother and sister-in-laws Frances Miller of Gig Harbor, Washington, Bobbie and Earl Lewis Little of Buffalo Valley, Tennessee, Donald and Louisa Little of Honey Grove, Texas, Jim and Darlene Little of Tacoma, Washington, Kenneth and Colett Little and Gloria Howard all of Tucson, Arizona. LITTLE -- Jimmie Neal Little joined our Lord on September 19. 2008. He is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Ramona Clotilde Silva Little; his daughter, Dionelia Martina Gutierrez and her husband Steven; a granddaughter, and the love of his life, Moira Grace Gutierrez; three step-grandchildren, Christopher, Danielle, and Steven Gutierrez; his brother David Ray Little and wife Louise; brother, William Edwin Little and wife Joyce; sister-in-law, Helen Little; and many nieces and nephews. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Ray David and Grace Alma Little; his brothers Gerald Lenard Little, Roy Louis Little, and Thomas Almer Little; a niece, Phyllis Little Barnett; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gregory and Mary Ann Silva. Jimmie was born in Wetumka, Oklahoma October 2, 1941. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1959 and moved to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico. He left UNM to join the United States Air Force, serving in Duluth, Minnesota with the 4645th Support Squadron from 1961 to 1965. He and his wife were married in Duluth November 9, 1963, and returned to Albuquerque in 1965, where he attended UNM and received a BA in Electrical Engineering. Jimmie worked for Eberline Instrument Corporation in Santa Fe for 38 years. After retirement, he pursued his hobbies of art restoration and gardening, and taught himself jewelry making, creating beautiful and beloved pieces for his wife, daughter and granddaughter. His most beloved pastime, however, was taking care of his 14-month granddaughter, who was the joy of his life. Daddy, you always made sure we were taken care of. LOPEZ -- Stella R. Lopez age, 69, a resident of Los Lunas, NM passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 19, 2008. Stella was born in 1939. MCGOUGH -- Romaine Elizabeth Sinclair McGough, born to Harry and Alice Sinclair on September 2, 1920 in Baltimore, MD passed into the arms of God on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in the family home surrounded by loved ones. Romaine was the beloved wife of Retired Major General Edward A. McGough III for 65 years. She was the matriarch of the family, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Romaine was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Lindsey Green. She is survived by her husband Ed; four daughters, Sara Lendzion and husband Dennis, Ann McGough, Nancy McGough and husband Sean Green, all of Albuquerque and Gail McGough-Maduena and husband James Maduena of Placitas, NM; granddaughters, Pamela Sever, Alexandra Dyer and husband Brandon, Brooke Green, Mara McGough-Maduena, and Alison McGough-Maduena; grandsons, Joel Green and James McGough-Maduena; and one great-granddaughter, Alynna Dyer. Romaine and Ed were a military family residing in many places in the U.S. and abroad, retiring in Placitas, NM in 1975. Romaine cared deeply for the environment, especially wildlife conservation. She loved music, sang and played the piano throughout her life, in many churches and military chapels around the world. Romaine actively supported all aspects of military family life and Ed's career. She was a wonderful hostess who entertained Kings and Queens, Congressmen, and other dignitaries. Romaine worked for the American Red Cross and was a senior advisor for the American Girl Scout program in Europe. After retiring to Placitas, she was an active participant in the Placitas Jardineros, Placitas Horse Club, and the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Victoria Villarose for her love and care of Romaine in her final months. NEAL -- Anna Elizabeth Neal (Standhardt), 90, went to her Heavenly Father, September 8, 2008. She was born in Denver, CO, May 10, 1918. Anna is survived by her two sons, Jack and Robert Neal, both of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Quanah S. Neal. After living in Southern California for 45 years, she and Quanah moved to Albuquerque and were residents for 23 years. She was active in the Little League Auxiliary from 1951 to 1955. After moving to Hemet, CA, Anna was president of Catholic Daughters for two years. While living in Albuquerque, she was a volunteer at Presbyterian Hospital, accumulating 2600 hours. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all her family and friends. OLMSTED -- Georgette H. Olmsted, born April 2, 1932 in Yverdon, Switzerland, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 19, 2008. She immigrated to the United States in 1954 and after a few years of extensive travel around the world, she married and moved to New Mexico in 1958. It was in Santa Fe where she raised her family. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Olmsted who died in 1986. RIX -- Donna Standfier Rix passed away peacefully on September 17, 2008 with her family and friends at her bedside. Donna was born to F.N. (Sonny) and Marie Standfier on May 28, 1936 in Hugo, OK., moving to Albuquerque's South Valley with her family in 1947. Donna graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1954, and later that year married Donald Rix. Donna received her Bachelors, Masters, and finally her PhD from the University of New Mexico, and after years of teaching writing and literature at UNM and Northern Arizona University, went to work for Sandia National Laboratories. Donna continued her passion for the written word at Sandia, teaching technical writing to staff members and publishing volumes while working in various areas at Sandia including the Solar Energy department, Lab News, and Tech Transfer. Donna retired from Sandia in 2003, filling her free time with xeriscaping her yards and working on a novel that she unfortunately did not complete. Donna is survived by her daughter Donna Marie Smith and husband Steve; granddaughter Jessica Smith, sister Jeanene Carver; sister-in-law Delores Kuhn; brothers-in-law Allen Rix and wife Beverly, Larry Rix and wife Dorothy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Donna is also survived by her dear friend Diane Porter. Donna was preceded in death by Don her husband of 52 years; parents Sonny and Marie; sister Sandra Allen; brother David Standfier; and brothers-in-law Art Kuhn and James Carver. Liz was born in Albuquerque on August 16, 1954 to Albert and Veronica Sanchez. Liz touched many lives through her devoted work with the church. She was called upon to serve in many ways, including missionettes leader and womens ministry. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert and mother, Veronica; granddaughter, Celestial McCoy; and brother-in-law, Greg Clapper. SHATTUCK -- August George Shattuck, 93, a lifelong member and resident of Isleta Pueblo, died Thursday, September 18, 2008. He is survived by his sisters and brother, many nieces and nephews. Mr. Shattuck is preceded in death by his wife Hella Shattuck, and his parents. Mr. Shattuck was born April 10, 1915 in Isleta Pueblo to his parents Paul Shattuck and Maria Beatrice Abeita (maiden name). After graduating from Highland University in 1942, he worked as an instructor in the Vocational Department for the University. He also was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and taught at the Zuni Day School and Santa Fe Indian School. He received a Master's degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and traveled as a health educator for the U.S. Indian Health Service, which he served the Albuquerque Service area. He served as a Tribal Affairs Officer serving the many Native American communities, also as a consultant on the New Mexico Commission on Alcoholism and was appointed by Governor Garrey Carruthers in 1977 to the State Mental Health Advisory Board. He was very active during his retirement as he served on the National Advisory Committee on Aging, the New Mexico Council on Aging and the City of Albuquerque's Senior Task Force. August will be missed by his family. VILLEGAS -- Alicia Ramirez Villegas passed away September 19, 2008 after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Albuquerque for over 40 years. WEIR -- Betty Keppel Weir, 98, resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1949, died August 23, 2008. Betty is survived by her son, Robert Keppel Weir and wife, Susan Steele Weir; grandchildren, Matthew Robert Weir and wife, Margaret, Michael Richard Weir and wife, Heather; great grandsons, Tyler James Weir, Brant Matthew Weir; and great granddaughter, Hailey Margaret Weir and numerous other family and friends. Betty was a graduate Western State College in Gunnison, CO, was a teacher and also very active in the communities where she lived. She was a member of St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church, active with the League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women, Pan American Round Table and The Albuquerque Art Museum. She was also a founding member of the Tennis Club of Albuquerque and on the Board of Directors of Encino House. Betty thoroughly enjoyed sports, playing tennis until she was 92 years old; was able to attend the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, where she observed Jesse Owens & the US Athletes incredible performances, and she continued her love of sports by recently watching the 2008 Bejing Olympics on TV. Anita is survived by her husband, Charles; sons, Charles (7 yrs) and John (4 yrs) of Omaha, NE; sisters, brothers and numerous relatives. Anita graduated from Highland High School in 1980, then received a degree in Communications from Trident Technical College in 1995. She worked as a production assistant for various TV stations in Charleston, SC and Omaha, NE. Anita was also very active in her church and son's school. ZAMORA -- Michael J. Zamora, 55, April 16th, 1953- Sept. 19th, 2008, went to be with the Lord, on September 19th, 2008. He is survived by many relatives and friends who loved him very much; his wife of 32 years, Gloria Zamora; his brother, David Zamora; his sisters, Joanne Sanchez and Theresa Zimmerly; his daughters, Michelle Zamora, and Ramona Apache; his father, Lazaro Zamora; his grandchildren, Amadeus Apache, Kiyana Apache, Paul Haywood, and Peyton Haywood. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dora Zamora; and grandson, Elijah Apache. He lovingly supported his family by working for the City of Albuquerque, until about 2 years ago. He loved to play golf, take care of his yard and garden, and to play with his grandchildren. He also donated his artwork to San Ysidro Catholic Church and Corrales Library. He will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, his politics, his "scavengering", and his love for his whole family. He will be forever loved and missed. A Visitation will held from 6:00 PM till 7:00 PM, Sunday, September 21, with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 22nd, at 10:00 AM; all Services will be held at San Ysidro Catholic Church, Corrales, NM.
