BLISS -- Dottie Bliss passed away peacefully on April 15, 2008, after a sudden and devastating illness. She was 80 years old and a resident of Albuquerque for 57 years. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Bliss, and many friends including Judy Hawbaker, Mary Ann Weems, Laurie Fernandez, and Kay Dennison. She retired from Sandia Laboratories in 1982. She was an avid gardener, loved bicycling, and took many trips to bicycle rallies throughout her life, evidenced by the 13,000 miles that she had on her Raleigh bicycle. Dottie was out riding her bicycle up until the very end. Her interests were many; art was evidenced in everything she did. She volunteered at Weems Art Gallery, and the Assistance League of Albuquerque. Dottie was a docent at the Albuquerque Museum for many years. She enjoyed traveling and was particularly fond of the Cotswolds in England. Dottie loved animals and birding. She was a Master Gardener at the Albuquerque Garden Center. The grounds at her home are a lasting legacy of her and are truly a work of art. Her three dogs, Mickey, Charli, and Danny were an absolute joy to her. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Tribute to Dottie will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008, at 10:00 at the Albuquerque Museum. Contributions can be sent to the Albuquerque Museum Foundation for a future commission to be permanently placed in honor of her. Sincere appreciation goes to the staff of the Emergency Room, ICU, and Kaseman Hospice at Presbyterian Hospital. You made this very difficult journey much easier. Special kudos to Eric Magana, MD, and Elizabeth Sanchez, RN. I love you, Mom. You were indeed a very special lady. I will miss you immensely.

BONADONNA -- Joseph C. Bonadonna, 90, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 27 years, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008. Joseph was born September 2, 1917 the son of Guy and Grace Baio Bonadonna in Sicily. He was a member of the Italian American Club of Rio Rancho. He enjoyed working with his hands, building and fixing things. He also enjoyed playing cards. Joseph was the anchor for his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas in 2005. Joseph is survived by his wife of 69 years, Agnes Bonadonna of Rio Rancho; two daughters, Cookie Bonadonna of Rio Rancho, and Beatrice O'Malley and husband John of Mastic, NY; eleven grandchildren; eleven great -grandchildren; and one sister, Camella Cannata of Staten Island, NY. Visitation for Joseph will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 6 PM to 8 PM and Thursday, April 17, 2008 from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. CARNER -- Thomas Edward Carner, beloved father of Aspen Carner, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008, after prolonged illness. He died at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Tom is survived by his daughter; his sisters, Cathy, Nina, and Theresa; and many nieces and nephews. Tom was born in Sendai, Japan and raised in Manhattan, New York. He was a lover of the arts and fine food and was a gifted cook. He liked basketball and tennis, and enjoyed antiquing and "a good deal". Proud of his Japanese heritage, Uncle Tommy loved his family. Above all, he was warm-hearted, kind, and wonderful. He was laid to rest on Saturday April 12, 2008, in the Bronx, New York. COBB -- Donell Cobb Sr., 76, a resident of Albuquerque for 51 years, passed away on April 10, 2008. Mr. Cobb was born on October 25, 1931 to George and Daisy Cobb. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and belonged to Morning Missionary Star Baptist Church. Mr. Cobb is preceded in death by is father and mother and four brothers. He is survived by his children, Diedra, Djuana, Donell, and Carolyn, five grandchildren and one great- grandchild. DAVIS -- Col. Andrew S. Davis, USAF (ret) passed away November 3, 2007 as a result of complications due to an automobile accident. He was born in Detroit, MI, February 27, 1920, the third of four children to Sarah and Andrew Davis. He graduated from high school at age 15. Andy was a very industrious fellow and helped support his family in a variety of ways. He was rural route salesman for Green's Cleaners visiting nine towns a week. He trapped muskrats and sold the furs to a local furrier. He worked in the family landscaping business and also at General Motors as a dynamometer mechanic. In addition, he sold his mother's homemade candies to the local businesses. He attended Wayne State University and in 1942, Andy enlisted in the US Air Force pilot program. He was a Command Pilot with over 10,000 hours of military flying time. One retired, Andy attended UNM and Anderson School of Business where he obtained a master's degree in Business Administration. He was a real estate broker from 1970 to his retirement in 2006. Always interested in new experiences, Andy traveled extensively during his air force career and after retirement. He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman with a great passion for fishing, hunting and golf. He was an active member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, where he served as usher. Andy was a member of the Masonic Order, Shrine, and Retired Officer's Association. He was a devoted member of his daily coffee club. Andy married Kathleen Ruth Blackwell in 1941 and had two children. He married again to Merry Vargo Carraway in 1970 and this loving union lasted until her death in 1991. Andy is survived by his younger brother, Paul Davis and wife, Elaine, Tucson, AZ; daughter, Gerladine Wilkins and husband, Don, Severn Park, MA; son, Dennis Davis and wife, Helen, Vicques, Puerto Rico, Mike Carraway and wife, Julia, Houston, TX, LTC David Carraway and wife, Jacque, San Antonio, TX, Nancy Aslam, Albuquerque, NM, Martha Chambers and husband, Dewey, Burlingame, CA; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Andy led a humble life as a true gentleman, forgiving and slow to anger, with a special glint in his eye and a wonderful smile. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. DAWES -- Maxine Dawes, also Maxine Gandee, nee Maxine Mayer, was called to God from her home in Albuquerque, NM, on Sunday, April 13, 2008. She shared her life with us for 78 years. Maxine was born on August 16, 1929, in Albuquerque; her first home was the Montezuma Hotel. Her parents, Charles Mayer, Sr. and Mabel (Jones) Mayer, were the proprietors. She graduated from the original Albuquerque High School, and went on to work in customer service. She is survived by her children, Scott Gandee, Zia Zaragoza (nee Marion Gandee), and Susan Pascetti and husband, George; grandchildren, Jacob A. Hunner and Damian Pascetti; three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, and Gio; sister, Mrs. Margaret McReynolds; sister-in-law, Mrs. Lois Mayer; nieces, Marlene Mayer and Margaret Silins; nephew, Charles McReynolds; and extended family in Illinois. DE LA TORRE -- Jorge Miguel de la Torre, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Maria Mercedes; two sons, Jorge de la Torre and wife, Kelly of Denver, CO, and Carlos de la Torre and wife, Sarah of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Jordi, Luca, Gabriella, and Mateo; mother, Martha Muller de la Torre of Cochabamba, Bolivia; and three brothers, Luis de la Torre and Alfonso de la Torre, both of Albuquerque, and Carlos de la Torre of Cochabamba, Bolivia. He was born on September 25, 1942, in Cochabamba, Bolivia and came to the United States in 1963 to study Architecture at the University of New Mexico. He graduated in 1966 Magna Cum Laude, and then returned to Bolivia where he married Maria Mercedes Sanchez de Lozada. They returned to the United States in 1967 where they made their home in Albuquerque. After working with several firms, he opened his own architectural firm in 1975. His work is evident throughout Albuquerque and the western United States, earning him several design awards. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including fly fishing, and skiing. He was an artist and loved painting, and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He was a devoted family man and a loving and doting grandfather. ESQUIBEL -- Paz 1947 - 2008 Paz Esquibel Paz Esquibel, 60, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 12, 2008. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008, in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Joe Tash, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Esquibel was born November 4, 1947 in Espanola, New Mexico to Benjamin and Pauline Esquibel. He started his career in the restaurant field in Albuquerque, New Mexico and moved to the Amarillo area in 1976 where he was employed by Taco Villa Restaurants and Bobby Cox Co.'s for the next 32 years until his death. Everyone that knew Paz loved him. He was very devoted to his family. He loved life and just had a way of making people smile and laugh. From those of us who survive him, we love you with all our heart and miss you so much. Our comfort is in knowing that you are in a better place now and that we will one day all be together again. We were all so blessed to have you in our lives even though it was too short. Mr. Esquibel was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Esquibel and Helen Baca; and one brother, Wilfred Esquibel. He is survived by his children, Paula Warrior, Cindy Emery, Michael Esquibel, Walter Esquibel, and Brandon Esquibel; his parents, Benjamin and Pauline Esquuibel; his siblings, Adonais Esquibel, Clifford Esquibel, Joseph Esquibel, and Alvin Esquibel; and five grandchildren, Zachary Esquibel, Zia Warrior, Natalie Esquibel, Amelia Esquibel, and Christopher Emery. ETHRIDGE -- Mack Edward Ethridge passed away at the age of 63 on Monday April 7, 2008, in Phoenix, AZ. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; daughter, Karey and her husband, Chuck Mitchell; and son, James and his wife, Alisa Ethridge; as well as granddaughters Kelsey, Kylie, Ava, and Diana, all of Albuquerque, NM. Also, brothers, Joe, Lonnie, and Raymond Ethridge; and sister, Betty Frazier, all of whom live in Texas. He was born on October 27, 1944, in Ft. Worth, Texas and was raised in Weatherford, TX. Mack was a graduate of The University of North Texas where he met Cheryl Rulaine Kiourkas, his wife of 40 years. After a career as an Account Manager for General Mills in El Paso, TX, he started Ethridge Tire Center, which has been located in Albuquerque, NM for the last 28 years. Mack was a recognized member of the community in which he lived, a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and the Executives Association of Greater Albuquerque. He will be remembered as an unassuming man who believed in people, who charted his own path in life, and lived it on his terms until the very end. He will also be remembered as a caring man who helped countless family, friends, customers, and employees in their times of need. We will miss him dearly. GARCIA -- Antonio Garcia, age 65, born in Bosque New Mexico, and a resident of Rio Rancho passed away, on Sunday April 13, 2008. Antonio was a beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. HOMAN -- Margaret J., 91, a resident of Albuquerque for 54 years, went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2008, with her family present. She was born on August 24, 1916, along with her twin, Martha, in Dallas, Texas. Margaret attended public schools in Dallas before her father moved the family to Colorado where she graduated from Delta High School in Delta, Colorado. She attended the University of New Mexico in 1932 and completed her Bachelor's degree a few years later. Margaret married Lilburn C. Homan in 1940, and they had one daughter, Carol Ann Homan. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann and husband, Tom Goodwin, of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Becky Goodwin of Albuquerque, and Thomas Goodwin and wife, Sarah, of Denver, Colorado; three sisters-in-law, Genevra Jackson of California, Janice Blevins of Portales, NM, and Marian Homan of Albuquerque, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lilburn C. Homan, in 1986; parents, John Alexander Jackson and Nola Katherine Jackson; three brothers, Jim, Jesse, and Frank Jackson of California; and her two sisters, Mary Lou Ballenger and Martha Moore of Albuquerque. Margaret was an educator in New Mexico since 1934. She started teaching at age 18 in Estancia, NM, she taught in Moriarty, NM, in Albuquerque at Zia Elementary, Van Buren Jr. High, and Aztec Elementary. After achieving her Master of Arts degree in 1971, she became a Reading Specialist at East Area and later District Reading Coordinator for Albuquerque Public Schools in June 1979 until her retirement in 1985. HOWARD -- Ruea Jane Howard, age 90, formerly of Wichita, KS and Colorado Springs, CO, went to Heaven to be with her Lord, Tuesday, April 15, 2008. She moved to Albuquerque in 1997 to be with her daughter. Ruea was the third daughter of Ernest and Mildred Wikoff. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and three brothers. During WWII, she worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS, to help with the war effort. She spent much of her life in Wichita. She was a "nineties" lady, in the "forties and fifties", choosing to be single mother, raising her three children on a bookkeeper's income. Ruea is survived by her daughter, Pat Rose and husband, John; sons, Ken Howard and John Howard and wife, Stephanie; grandchildren, Chuck, Nick, Katrina, Debra, and Misty; brother, Richard Wikoff; six great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and special nieces and nephews. JARAMILLO -- Freda A., 43, a resident of Bernalillo, passed away to be with our Lord on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. She is survived by her mother, Cecilia Jaramillo; daughters, Diana and husband, Alvaro, Freda and husband, Adrian, Sonia, Cecilia; son, Jose Roberto; sisters, Ruby and Roberta; brothers, Freddie, Fabian, Tommy, and Robert; along with her grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many relatives. JOHNSON -- Jan (Janice M. Johnson) Jan had her 76th birthday on April 1, 2008, this year and passed away peacefully at her home on April 12, 2008, from colon cancer. Jan was born to Harry and Mary Paulus in Los Angeles, CA in 1932 and met her future husband, Bob Johnson, when she was 15 years old. They were married on February 2, 1952. Jan was preceded in death by her oldest son Scott. Jan has four surviving children, Kathy Brown of Highlands Ranch, CO; Steve of Fountain Valley, CA; Matt of Albuquerque; and Craig of Stockton, CA plus her husband of 56 years, Bob. She leaves four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren plus a brand new great-grandson, Scott J., born February 21, 2008. Jan was very active with the Good Shepherd Center and its Auxiliary. She is a Past Treasurer of the Auxiliary and was its Secretary when she died. Jan met Brother Mathias Barrett, founder of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd, shortly after arriving in Albuquerque in 1983. They chatted for over an hour at their first meeting, due in part to her knowing Brother's cousin, Fr. Vince Barrett, in California. She called Brother Mathias a saint and he said she was an angel. Cremation has taken place and a memorial Mass with Father John Daniel as celebrant will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be handled by the Brothers at the crypt of Brother Mathias. Special thanks are due to Vista Care Hospice and Christina, Marla, and Delora, who provided wonderful assistance. LABBATE -- Robert Labbate, 64, passed away on Monday April 14, 2008, in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on January 6, 1944, in Brooklyn, NY, to Frank and Louise Labbate. LUJAN -- Ida Lujan, born December 27, 1927, passed away peacefully in Rio Rancho, NM on Sunday, April 13, 2008. She was surrounded by family, friends, prayer and song. Ida loved to dance and listen to her sons play their guitars. She also enjoyed playing the accordion and the piano. She was famous for her beautifully crafted crochet blankets. Ida grew up on a farm in Mora, NM. Her strong will, zest for life, and unconditional love for family and friends was respected and appreciated by all who knew her. She is survived by her sons, Floyd, Phillip, Reuben, Tim, and David; and her daughters, Pauline, Mary Jane and Priscilla. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Joe; and youngest daughter, Bernadette. She will be missed by all including her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; in particular, her granddaughter, Lori who admired her strength. Ida spent the last seven years of her life with her daughter, Mary Jane and husband, Charlie Martinez, who loved her dearly. The family would like to give a special thanks to the ICU staff at the Westside Lovelace Hospital as well as Ida's cardiologist, Dr. Dubroff and her primary care physician, Dr. Garcia. OLONA -- Tony J. Olona, 81 of Las Cruces, NM died April 14, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born October 14, 1926 in Puerto De Luna, New Mexico to Antonio and Juanita Olona. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy; five sons, Tony Olona, Greg Olona, Pat Olona, Philip Olona, and Richard Olona; five daughters, Diana Olona, Susan Warner, Nancy Olona, Karen Broderick, and Janet Olona Also surviving are one brother, Joe Olona; three sisters, Sophie Davalos, Polly Ballinger, Lucy Lopez; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. PAULICK -- Stephen Lewis Paulick, born September 1, 1960, died April 6, 2008. Steve always walked close to the edge; it was who he was. It was a perilous path; he slipped often, but in the end stood tall and erect with courage and dignity. Steve is survived by his parents, Sue and Dick Percilick; Ron and Margaret Paulick; his brother, Ken Paulick and mate, Tina Gelinas; his sister and her husband; Heidi and Robert Dotson and their twin sons, Zachary and Jadon. PEOPLES JR. -- James 1917-2008 James McDill Peoples, Jr., age 90, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, after surviving prostate cancer, stroke, heart attacks, renal failure, and low alfalfa prices. He was known as James, Jim, and to most of Valencia County as "Mr. People". He was born in Matthews, NC, and plowed his father's fields behind mules while still in elementary school. He grew up attending Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, where burial took place on St. Patrick's Day in the family plot. Jim served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from 1941-1946. He was stationed at Kirtland as well as in the Philippines and Japan. Following discharge, Jim returned to Albuquerque and made it his home. He was a realtor, but a farmer at heart, and moved to Valencia County in 1974 to farm and raise Hereford beef cattle and Alfalfa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and James McDill Peoples Sr.; his sister, Rachael; brother, Preston; infant daughter, Charlotte; and stepdaughter, Candi Smith. James is survived by his devoted wife, Claire; son, James R.; stepchildren, Harold, Jeni, and Kent and their spouses; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Perry, Margaret, and Emma. SEGURA -- Andres Jesus (Andrew J.) Segura, 59, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008, after a brief illness. A 12th generation New Mexican, Mr. Segura was born September, 1948 in the Los Griegos area of Albuquerque. He was a descendant of New Mexico's original Spanish Families and the founding families of Albuquerque and Los Griegos. He was the son of Jesus M. and Eufemia Herrera Segura, both whom preceded him in death. His nephew Paul Sanchez also preceded Mr. Segura in death. Andres is survived by his sister, Diana Reyes Segura-Garcia; brothers, Filomeno and wife, Diana, Jose Eliseo (Joe) and wife, Erlinda and Amarante Jose and wife, Joan, all of Albuquerque; seven nephews; and four nieces; 16 great-nephews and nieces; Godmother, Mrs. Juanita Padilla de Jaramillo of Albuquerque; aunts, Mrs. Irene Segura and Mrs. Mela Segura, both of Tucumcari. Mr. Segura was a 1966 graduate of Valley High School. He was past president of the New Mexico Genealogical Society, Editor of the New Mexico Genealogist and served on the boards of the Historical Society of New Mexico, Friends of the Libraries University of New Mexico Inc., New Mexico Congressional Medal of Honor Hometown Heroes Program, City of Albuquerque Metropolitan Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and served as a volunteer with the Albuquerque Museum of Art. As a genealogical researcher Andrew taught and lectured on the origins of New Mexico's Spanish families for many years. Andres Segura was employed by the State of New Mexico, Department of Health, Scientific Laboratory Division. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. UMPHRES -- Annette Ruth Hooten, 72, went to the Lord on April 11, 2008. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home following a long illness, surrounded by her immediate family. She was born January 29, 1936, in El Paso, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Gladys Hooten of El Paso, Texas. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Whitehorn-Umphres of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Darlene Bastien of Henderson, Nevada; her brother Clyde Hooten Jr. and wife of Citrus Heights, California; two grandchildren, and her beloved cats, Momma Cat and Monet; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her "adopted" daughter, Laura Wolfe of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and "adopted" granddaughters, Jessica Skaggs and Jael Esquibel. Annette was a true angel on Earth. Annette was a native of El Paso, Texas. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School, class of January, 1954, graduating in the top 10% of her class. Immediately following graduation, Annette was married on her 18th birthday Prior to her marriage, she had begun a career with the El Paso Times and Herald Post, which she put on hold to raise her family. She became a single parent in 1974, and resumed her career at Albuquerque Publishing Company, which lasted from 1974 until 1998, when she was forced to retired due to a severe illness. Annette was a stellar salesperson, and of her many accomplishments, salesperson of the year was one of her most cherished. Annette's integrity was impeccable, her faith and courage remarkable unshakable, her friendship was invaluable, her loyalty was unquestionable, her love was immeasurable and her presence will be irreplaceable. Those who relied upon Annette's wise, compassionate listening ear will sorely miss her as mentor, confidant, and peacemaker. The family invites you to celebrate the life and legacy of this beautiful, gentle and loving spirit, who left the world a better place than when she entered. VALDEZ -- Emma Valdez was born in Santa Fe, NM on April 27, 1926. She lived her entire life in Santa Fe and went to be with our Lord on April 12, 2008, after a short illness.
