SEGURA -- Andres Jesus (Andrew J.) Segura, 59, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008, after a brief illness. A 12th generation New Mexican, Mr. Segura was born September, 1948 in the Los Griegos area of Albuquerque. He was a descendant of New Mexico's original Spanish Families and the founding families of Albuquerque and Los Griegos. He was the son of Jesus M. and Eufemia Herrera Segura, both whom preceded him in death. His nephew Paul Sanchez also preceded Mr. Segura in death. Andres is survived by his sister, Diana Reyes Segura-Garcia; brothers, Filomeno and wife, Diana, Jose Eliseo (Joe) and wife, Erlinda and Amarante Jose and wife, Joan, all of Albuquerque; seven nephews; and four nieces; 16 great-nephews and nieces; Godmother, Mrs. Juanita Padilla de Jaramillo of Albuquerque; aunts, Mrs. Irene Segura and Mrs. Mela Segura, both of Tucumcari. Mr. Segura was a 1966 graduate of Valley High School. He was past president of the New Mexico Genealogical Society, Editor of the New Mexico Genealogist and served on the boards of the Historical Society of New Mexico, Friends of the Libraries University of New Mexico Inc., New Mexico Congressional Medal of Honor Hometown Heroes Program, City of Albuquerque Metropolitan Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and served as a volunteer with the Albuquerque Museum of Art. As a genealogical researcher Andrew taught and lectured on the origins of New Mexico's Spanish families for many years. Andres Segura was employed by the State of New Mexico, Department of Health, Scientific Laboratory Division. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited Friday, April 18, 2008, 8:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 19, 2008, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Father Ramon Aragon, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Timothy J. Garcia y Segura, Leroy Romero, Michael Storrie, Dr. David E. Mills, Mark Lucero and Rocky Baros.
