Obituary for BLISS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday April 17, 2008

Dottie Bliss passed away peacefully on April 15, 2008, after a sudden and devastating illness. She was 80 years old and a resident of Albuquerque for 57 years. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Bliss, and many friends including Judy Hawbaker, Mary Ann Weems, Laurie Fernandez, and Kay Dennison. She retired from Sandia Laboratories in 1982. She was an avid gardener, loved bicycling, and took many trips to bicycle rallies throughout her life, evidenced by the 13,000 miles that she had on her Raleigh bicycle. Dottie was out riding her bicycle up until the very end. Her interests were many; art was evidenced in everything she did. She volunteered at Weems Art Gallery, and the Assistance League of Albuquerque. Dottie was a docent at the Albuquerque Museum for many years. She enjoyed traveling and was particularly fond of the Cotswolds in England. Dottie loved animals and birding. She was a Master Gardener at the Albuquerque Garden Center. The grounds at her home are a lasting legacy of her and are truly a work of art. Her three dogs, Mickey, Charli, and Danny were an absolute joy to her. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Tribute to Dottie will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008, at 10:00 at the Albuquerque Museum. Contributions can be sent to the Albuquerque Museum Foundation for a future commission to be permanently placed in honor of her. Sincere appreciation goes to the staff of the Emergency Room, ICU, and Kaseman Hospice at Presbyterian Hospital. You made this very difficult journey much easier. Special kudos to Eric Magana, MD, and Elizabeth Sanchez, RN. I love you, Mom. You were indeed a very special lady. I will miss you immensely.
