Annette Ruth Hooten, 72, went to the Lord on April 11, 2008. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home following a long illness, surrounded by her immediate family. She was born January 29, 1936, in El Paso, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Gladys Hooten of El Paso, Texas. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Whitehorn-Umphres of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Darlene Bastien of Henderson, Nevada; her brother Clyde Hooten Jr. and wife of Citrus Heights, California; two grandchildren, and her beloved cats, Momma Cat and Monet; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her "adopted" daughter, Laura Wolfe of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and "adopted" granddaughters, Jessica Skaggs and Jael Esquibel. Annette was a true angel on Earth. Annette was a native of El Paso, Texas. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School, class of January, 1954, graduating in the top 10% of her class. Immediately following graduation, Annette was married on her 18th birthday Prior to her marriage, she had begun a career with the El Paso Times and Herald Post, which she put on hold to raise her family. She became a single parent in 1974, and resumed her career at Albuquerque Publishing Company, which lasted from 1974 until 1998, when she was forced to retired due to a severe illness. Annette was a stellar salesperson, and of her many accomplishments, salesperson of the year was one of her most cherished. Annette's integrity was impeccable, her faith and courage remarkable unshakable, her friendship was invaluable, her loyalty was unquestionable, her love was immeasurable and her presence will be irreplaceable. Those who relied upon Annette's wise, compassionate listening ear will sorely miss her as mentor, confidant, and peacemaker. The family invites you to celebrate the life and legacy of this beautiful, gentle and loving spirit, who left the world a better place than when she entered. Services will be on Thursday, April 17, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa Avenue NE. Viewing will be at 1:00 p.m., services at 2:00 p.m., with burial following immediately at Sunset Memorial Park at Menaul and Broadbent. Flowers may be sent to Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th NW.
