ALDERETE -- Jose (Joe) Alderete, 77, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2005 in Socorro, NM. He was born July 10, 1928 in Gallup, NM to Desederio and Adela (Gallegos) Alderete. Joe is survived by his wife, Zella (Gonzales) Alderete of their home in Socorro; sons: Rocco of Arlington, TX; Joel and wife, Kelly of Los Chaves, NM; daughters: Lorella Chavez and husband, Bill of Lemitar, NM; Mela Straley and husband, Dale of Socorro; and Joella Alderete of Las Cruces, NM; brothers: Esau Alderete and wife, Angie of Las Cruces; Jacinto Alderete and wife, Betty of Bedford, TX; and Eli Alderete of Albuquerque, NM; fourteen children; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lemitar, NM. Inurnment will be in the Lemitar cemetery. ANDERSON -- Seymour E. Anderson, Jr., 86, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, died July 20, 2005, in Cochiti Lake, NM, following a debilitating four month illness. He was a gentle and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend; a lovely gentleman, deeply loved; and will be greatly, greatly missed. He is survived by Rosalie, his wife of 65 years; four children: Alan, Rosanne, Julie (Don) Kurtz, and Brian (Jolene); six grandchildren; David Kurtz, Marlie (Darren) Gogolan, Kathryn (Chris) Webster, Danny Stewart, Jon (Danielle), and Brianne; and seven great-grandchildren: Ashton, Tanner, Hope, Emilie, Elliott, Hannah and Brayden; as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law: Alan and Ruth Anderson, Doug and Barbara Anderson, and sister-in-law Barbara P. Anderson(his brother, Lowell, preceded him in death); numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family, Marsha and Kristi Newburn. A celebration of Seymour's life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at 2 p.m., at the Pena Blanca Community & Senior Center, 778 Hwy 22, Pena Blanca. The community is warmly invited. APODACA -- Socorro Apodaca - Beloved wife, mother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, went home to be the Lord on July 25, 2005. Socorro was born on November 2, 1924. She is survived by her husband, Bert Apodaca; one brother, Dolores Romero; two sisters, Nancy Sandoval and Eloisa Padilla; five daughters, Gloria Martinez, Trini Romero, MaryLou Martinez, Rose Zambrano and Claudina Zambrano; two sons, David Maldonado and Joe Maldonado; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. A visitation for Socorro will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Garcia Mortuary Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Lucy Sanchez. A final visitation will be Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Ascension, 2150 Raymac Rd SW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Principal Celebrant will be Father Joe Vigil. Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery following the Mass. BARNETT -- Gertrude Lucille Barnett, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, July 23, 2005. She was born Monday, October 29, 1917 in Indianapolis, IN to John and Gertrude Nickel, the second youngest of ten children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Jack M. Barnett. Gertrude is survived by her younger brother, Walter Nickel and wife, Neva of Indiana; daughter, Brenda Seybold and husband, Gary, of Concord, CA; three sons, Jack W. and wife, Donna, Carl E. and Gene A. all of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Gertrude worked as a registered nurse in Indianapolis for many years. After moving to Albuquerque, she worked for Presbyterian Hospital for 17 years and retired in 1979. Gertrude was a member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church where she was an active in the choir and Friday Bible Study Group. Both Jack and Gertrude were active in the Republican Party and various Shriner organizations. Services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2005, 10:00 a.m., at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper NE with a reception to follow at the Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. BOOM -- LaDon Ann Boom, 74, of West Des Moines, IA, formerly of Rio Rancho, died suddenly June 11, 2005. Local Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. at the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, 1004-24th Street, Rio Rancho. LaDon Riedesel was born October 7, 1930, in Wheatland, IA to Dr. Elmer and Augusta Stankee Riedesel. She graduated from Wheatland High School in 1948 and obtained her BA from Cornell College in 1952 and her MA from Western Illinois University. She taught music for many years in small towns in eastern Iowa, and established the first elementary guidance program for the Calamus-Wheatland School District, retiring in 1993. She directed church choirs in IA and NM and Handel's Messiah for the Koinonia Choral Society for nearly 25 years. She was a passionate advocate for the fine arts, and had a deep appreciation for the beauty of New Mexico. LaDon married Deane Boom in 1952. Survivors include her children, Ried of Manchester, IA, Ross of Rio Rancho, Darca of West Des Moines, IA, and Carrie of Shoreline, WA; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church Music Fund.

BRIDGES -- Ola Marion Bridges was born May 5, 1942 in Hoffman, OK to Lula Marie (Phillips) and Cecil Easley. She lived in Bernalillo, NM for 32 years and moved to Blanchard, OK in 2002. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Blanchard. She enjoyed gardening, swimming, fishing, and going to the mountains. She passed away July 23, 2005. Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Toler of Blanchard; brother, Curtis Easley of Arizona; sister, Pauline Diel of Blanchard; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; son Paul; parents; and two brothers. CANDELARIA -- Jerry L. Candelaria 37, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2005 after a sudden illness. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Macario Candelaria and he is survived by his mother, Agueda Candelaria; seven brothers, Joe, Gilbert, Richard, Victor, Leroy, Karl, and David; five sisters, Dolores, Mary, Gloria, Stella and Luisa. Services will be held at the San Ignacio Parish with a Rosary being recited on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 30, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the San Antonito Parish cemetery in Sandia Park, NM.. CHRISTENSEN -- Rita Marie Christensen, 84, a lifelong resident of Baltimore, MD, died Sunday, July 24, 2005. Rita is survived by her husband, Leslie Christensen; daughter, Jeanne Christensen; son-in-law, Barry Schuster; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Vicki Christensen; and two grandchildren, Carl Christensen and Stacy Miller. Rita and Leslie spent many of their 63 years together building and living in their house they built in Baltimore. She also had many fond memories of the two of them going ballroom dancing all over Baltimore with many of their friends. She especially loved crocheting many different and beautiful items. Rita was a member of American Turners and Woodhome Senior Center. Rita and her husband Leslie moved to Albuquerque in 2003 to be closer to their children. As per her request, cremation has taken place. French Mortuary assisted all arrangements. MARTINEZ -- Sparky Martinez, 57, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, July 22, 2005, due to a single-car accident. He is survived by his wife, Carol Martinez; mother, Milly Varnado of Florida; brother, Butch Herndon of Florida; children, Tina, Cherry of Colorado Springs, CO, Dawn of Texas, Shawn of Alamogordo, Jane and Bart of Albuquerque; in-laws, Charles "Binky" and Jane Martinez of Albuquerque. Sparky, at age 16, enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving two tours in the Vietnam War and was a member of the L.R.R.P.'s Special Forces. He received numerous medals during that time. He was a military retiree after 20 years of proudly serving his country. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. METHENEY -- Janice F. Metheney, 66 of Rio Rancho, died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at her home. Janice was born in Deep Water, WV, January 3, 1939. She had lived in the Albuquerque, NM area for the past 24 years. Janice was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin H. Metheney and her mother, Minnie Metheney of Deep Water, WV. Janice is survived by her daughter, Jane L. Gillespie and her husband, Robert S. Gillespie of Shawnee, KS; her sons, Michael B. Metheney and his wife, Donna C. Metheney of Quartz Hill, CA, and Joseph D. Metheney and his wife, Lisa Metheney of Lees Summit, MO. She had seven grandchildren, Brynn, Lauren, Ellen, Ryan, Michael, Andrea and Matthew. Janice is also survived by her three sisters, Virginia Anders and her husband, Fred, Betty Goehring and her husband, Hank, and Jean Yurich; two brothers, Hansel Brown and wife, Lefia and Jack Metheney and wife, Kathy. She also had many nieces and nephews. Janice was formerly a Senior import/export analyst at Transcore in Albuquerque for 15 years. She was a member of Hoffmantown West Church where she served faithfully in the children's ministry for many years. Janice was an avid Minnesota Vikings football fan, loved reading and traveling, but most of all, cared deeply for her family and friends. MONTOYA -- Natividad "Tive" Montoya, 87, went home to be with the Lord on July 22, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zeke and grandson, Tony. She is survived by her sister, Cleo Salaz; six sons and two daughters, Tony Montoya and Lucy, Will Montoya and Connie, Betty Zamora, Viola Hurtado and Manuel, Dan Montoya and Marie, David Montoya, Raymond Montoya and Christie, James Montoya and Tina; and 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren Tive was a member of the Alter Society at Immaculate Conception for many years and the Bible Study group with the Baptist Church. She believed that God was everywhere and wanted to study His word with any and all religions. MORROW -- Darrel V. Morrow, age 85, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 70 years, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2005. POMPEO -- ORLANDO (EARL) POMPEO, age 94, of Albuquerque, NM, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2005, after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his, wife Elizabeth; his parents: Carlo and Adelina, brothers: Jim, Quin, Sam, Charlie; and his sister: Louise. He was born in Koehler, NM on December 11, 1910. He is survived by his two sons: Tollis and his wife, Linlin of Albuquerque, and Charles and his wife, Marie; two sisters: Rose Purvis of Ohio, and Mary Sparks of Raton, NM; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren Monica, Camille, Harriet, and Susan Pompeo of Albuquerque; one grandson: Dominick of Espanola; seven great-grandchildren, and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He worked in the family business, From 1930-1947 (Maxwell Mercantile). He left the family business to serve in the Navy during WWII and returned to work in 1947. He moved to Santa Fe and started the "Chicken Shack" restaurant until 1948. He helped form the fraternal order of eagles club; in Santa Fe. It was the first Eagles club in New Mexico. He was secretary/manager for over 30 years. He was instrumental in organizing other "Aerie's" chapters throughout New Mexico and was later regional President, retiring in the mid-eighties. He was one of four still living charter members. He was also a member of fraternal order of eagles Manager; sons of Italy (financial secretary), member of the Elks, V.F.W. and American Legion. QUINONES -- L. A. "Luke" Quinones, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away at home on Saturday, July 23, 2005, surrounded by his loving family, after a short illness. Luke was born in Canchaillo, Peru to Gerardo and Teresa Quinones on October 19, 1928. He attended New Mexico Tech and in 1957 graduated with a degree in Mining Engineering. Luke worked with mining companies in Peru, Bolivia and Chile as well as companies in the U.S. In New Mexico he worked for the NM Highway Department where he was on the design team for the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and worked on the original I-25 construction South of Albuquerque. He retired from NM Energy and Minerals in 1992 as a Gas Mining and Dust Engineer. Luke Quinones served as President and Board member of the Retired Public Employees of New Mexico. Mr. Quinones also served on the board of the Mine Inspectors' Institute of American and NM Retiree Health Care Authority. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Emena; sons, Ron and Michael of Albuquerque, NM and James of San Diego, CA; daughter, Teresa and husband, Daniel, of Portland, OR; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. RICHARDS -- Ruth was born in Detroit Michigan on January 6, 1913 and went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 25, 2005. She was 92 years old. Her children, Betsy, Brent and Suzanne and their families; three brothers; and many nieces and nephews survive her. Her husband, Dr. Frank D. Richards, and three siblings preceded her in death. Among her happiest moments were those spent in the company of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth always looked forward to Thursdays when her "Golden Girls," an informal gathering of dear friends, would meet in her home to work on missionary projects and share each other's lives. THOMPSON -- Derrick Andre Thompson, born on January 11, 1971, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 22, 2005. So unexpectedly he was tragically taken. Derrick was an avid football player and a serious 49ers fan. He was employed at Boise Cascade for eleven years, and recently transferred to American Furniture as a driver. He was a graduate of Sandia High School. He was a true son, grandson, brother, nephew, and cousin. He was loving, kind, and never judgmental. He took family and friends as they were. WEEDEN -- Ruth U. Weeden, age 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2005. She is survived by her children, Paul Weeden and wife, Barbara, and their children, Adam and Brandon of Phoenix, AZ; Susie Albin and husband, Keith of Ringling, OK; Janet Spence and husband, Larry and their children, Brent Apgar and Meg Lyman and husband, Brian; and Jim Weeden and his children, Scott and Tracy of Tucson, AZ. Four years after graduating from Fairfax High school in Los Angeles, CA, Ruth moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, just months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. She met her husband, Norman P. Weeden, while he was in Honolulu on R and R and they were married January 6, 1946 in Santa Fe, NM. The Forest Service took them all over the Southwest and they returned to Albuquerque in 1963. Divorced in 1968, Ruth went to work at Zork Hardware in accounts receivable and she retired in 1983. A fiercely independent woman, her keen sense of humor and love of bowling and dogs made her many friends. ZAMORA -- Alfonso Zamora, 83, passed away in Tucson, AZ on Friday, July 1, 2005. He was born in Manzano, NM. Alfonso served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II and is a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. He retired from the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow, CA as a Civil Service Worker and went on to work there as a non-appropriated worker until the age of 79. Alfonso was preceded in death by his wife, Erlinda; son, Anthony; grandson, Ricky; son in law, Bill Pope; parents, Adolfo and Ramona Zamora; sisters, Priscilla Ojola, Cleo Garcia; and brother in law, Dan Perea. He is survived by his daughter, Luz Pope of Tucson, AZ; a son, Alfonso Jr. of Seattle, WA; sisters, Nellie Perea, Josephine Aragon and Vivien Espinoza; and brothers, Rupert Zamora and Adolfo Zamora Jr. of Albuquerque; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
