Sparky Martinez, 57, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, July 22, 2005, due to a single-car accident. He is survived by his wife, Carol Martinez; mother, Milly Varnado of Florida; brother, Butch Herndon of Florida; children, Tina, Cherry of Colorado Springs, CO, Dawn of Texas, Shawn of Alamogordo, Jane and Bart of Albuquerque; in-laws, Charles "Binky" and Jane Martinez of Albuquerque. Sparky, at age 16, enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving two tours in the Vietnam War and was a member of the L.R.R.P.'s Special Forces. He received numerous medals during that time. He was a military retiree after 20 years of proudly serving his country. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 28, 2005, at 9:00 a.m. at Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, with Fr. Norbert Choong presiding. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Wednesday, July 27, 2005 from 5:00 p.m. until after the Rosary.
