KUHN -- Raymond L Kuhn, 80, lifetime resident of Albuquerque, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Wednesday, April 20, 2005, with family and friends at his side in his beloved home "on the mountain" southeast of Albuquerque, in Tijeras, and near where he had cherished memories of summers spent on Kuhn Road in his youth. Ray was born May 3, 1924, to Louis and Nora Kuhn in Chico, NM. He was united in marriage for over 55 years with Betty McGuire Kuhn, who preceded him in death. He served in the Navy in WWII aboard the USS Nassau in the South Pacific, after which he returned to the Albuquerque Fire Department where he served 32 years, the last seven of which were as Albuquerque Fire Chief, until he retired from the Department in 1972. In retirement he continued to serve as an arson and fire investigator on the Board of the New Mexico Association of Arson Investigators. Ray loved his life's vocation of firefighting and fire investigation foremost as well as his family whom he inspired in countless ways. He loved fishing, especially in the lakes of northern New Mexico and Grand Lake, OK where he spent many vacations with family. He was also talented and found enjoyment in small-engine repair which he undertook as a hobby with friend and fellow ex- Fire Chief David James. His passing is a deep loss to his family. He was a man of remarkable intelligence, strength, integrity, loyalty, and warmth expressed in humor. He will also be remembered for his tireless care for his wife, Betty, who suffered from MS for many years. He is survived by his sons, Jim Kuhn, also of Tijeras, Steve Kuhn and his wife, Gretchen, of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Matthew Kuhn and wife, Carol of Littleton, CO, and Breean Kedzierski and her husband, John of Williamsburg, VA; Ian and Peter Kuhn of Springfield, MO; and one grandson, Spencer Kuhn of Denver, CO. STEWART -- Walter L. (Buddy) passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2005, in Lexington, Kentucky. Buddy graduated from Lenoir City High School in 1962. Although he left Lenoir City soon afterwards and spent much of his professional life in Colorado and New Mexico, he always considered the place of his birth his true home and wished to be laid to rest here. Buddy graduated from Berea College in Kentucky with a B.A. in Economics; he earned the M.A. in Economics from the University of Ohio and the Ph.D. in Economics from Colorado State University. He was Chief Economist for the U.S. Forest Service, Southwest Region, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before retiring in 2001. Much of his work in the years before retirement dealt with environmental impact studies. Old friends from high school days in Lenoir City will remember with great affection his pugnacious but always engaging personality, his radio announcing skills at WLIL, and his portrayal of "Charley's Aunt" in the senior play. In more recent years, his family and friends will recall with pride his indomitable will and courage in recovering from a massive heart attack in 1997. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin J. Stewart and Dorothy U. Stewart, both of Lenoir City. He is survived by seven siblings and their spouses, all of whom will sorely miss his lively wit and exuberant zeal for life: James and Alyce Stewart of Roanoke, Virginia; Barbara and James Posgate of Kerrville, Texas; Ruth and Joseph Story of Lexington, Kentucky; Linda and Clay Rivers of Lincoln, Nebraska; Charlayne and Nigel Allan of Davis, California; Kate and John Johnson of Lexington, Kentucky; Susan and Gus Smith of Guntersville, Alabama. While he had no children of his own, he was a much-loved and entertaining "Uncle Bud" to his many nieces and nephews. All of us who knew and loved him will long remember his perennial high spirits, his generous nature, and the magnitude of the heart that failed him much too soon. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Seay officiating. Interment will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dorothy U. Stewart Scholarship Fund at Lenoir City High School, established in memory of our mother who died in 1998.
