Obituary for PURVIANCE

Farris Converse ("Purvy") Purviance, Jr., 76, passed away on April 18, 2005. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Purvy had a long and distinguished Civil Service career dealing in security areas. He worked in France, Germany, Tinker AFB, Kirtland AFB, and had many years of experience in Department of Defense programs. He was a Retired Chief of Security, AF Weapons Lab, as well as a member of the Air Force Security Police Association. He was a Distinguished Toastmaster, Past President of Toastmasters International, former Ops Manager of Crimestoppers International, and involved in numerous organizations. Purvy was a member of Hoffmantown Church, where he served as an usher until his health kept him home-bound. He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Lela Swinney Purviance; his children, Susan Trivett and husband, Warren of Danville, VA; Farris C. Purviance, III and wife, Lorraine of El Cajon, CA; John Purviance and wife, Carol of Las Vegas, NV, Mae Larsen of Broken Arrow, OK, and Grace Moore of Moore, OK; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Purvy was laid to rest on April 20, 2005 in the Santa Fe National Cemetery with attendant Honor Guard. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Ken Moore, and arrangements were made by Aspen Funeral Alternatives. Purvy was a long-time financial supporter of Ouachita Baptist University, and the family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to his alma mater, Ouachita Baptist University, 410 Ouachita Street, Arkadelphia, AR 71923-9961.
