DINEGAR -- Robert Hudson Dinegar 1921 -2005 Robert Hudson Dinegar was born in New York City, December 18, 1921. He graduated from Trinity School in 1939 and Cornell University, with a major in chemistry, in 1942. He was commissioned an Ensign USNR in 1942 and graduated from New York University in 1943 as a meteorologist. During World War II he served with the United States 7th Fleet ("McArthur's Navy") in the Southwest Pacific. He retired from the active Naval Reserve with the rank of Commander in 1975. After the war Dr. Dinegar attended Columbia University in New York City and received the Master's Degree in 1947 and the Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 1951. He joined the staff of the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1950 in Group GMX-7 and retired from the lab in 1987. He published 25 papers in the open scientific literature and was the holder of two patents. He was an adjunct professor at UNM-Los Alamos beginning in 1970 and rose to the positions of Division Head for Science and Technology and Interim Associate Director of Instruction. Robert Dinegar had a third career as a Priest in the Episcopal Church. Ordained in 1959, Father Dinegar served as the Curate and Associate Rector of Trinity-on-the-Hill Episcopal Church until his retirement in 1984. He was also Priest-in-charge of St. Peter's Chapel in White Rock from 1964-68, the first organized church group in that area. He received a theological degree from the College of Santa Fe in 1976. In 1991 he joined the staff of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith in Santa Fe. The Rev. Robert Dinegar was married in 1942 to Ann Elizabeth Knolle who was Deputy County Clerk of Los Alamos County from 1964 until her death in 1980. He leaves three children: Dr. Janice A. Boyd of Slidell, LA; Barbara H. Menicucci and husband, David, of Albuquerque; and Robert W. L. and wife, Kay of Colorado Springs, CO. He also leaves four grandchildren, Nicolas and Anthony Menicucci, Robert William Hudson, and Amber Ann Dinegar. In 1991 he married Elaine L. Coleman who continues to live in Santa Fe. In addition to his wife Elaine he also leaves a brother, Lt. Col. W. W. Dinegar, USMC (Ret) who is retired assistant State's Attorney General of Connecticut; and a sister, Dr. Caroline A. Dinegar, Dean of Political Science of the University of New Haven. Dr. Dinegar was a long-time supporter of two funds at Trinity School in the class of 39 in New York City; The Bruner-Smith Scholarship Fund (in honor of his favorite English Teacher) and the Distinguished Teacher Award. In lieu of flowers, the family requests individuals make charitable donations to either or both of these funds in his honor at Trinity School, 139 West 91st Street, New York, NY 10024-1399. A Memorial Eucharist will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 2:00 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Faith, 311 East Palace Avenue, Santa Fe, New Mexico, with The Rt. Rev Terence Kelshaw, Bishop of the Rio Grande, The Rt. Rev Dr. Jeffrey Steenson, Bishop Coadjutor of the Rio Grande, The Rt. Rev William Frey, retired Bishop of Colorado and The Rev.
