Abeita -- Lottie Gunn Abeita passed away April 23, 2001 at her home in Isleta Pueblo. She was born to Kenneth CC Gunn and Meta Atsye Gunn in Laguna Pueblo on February 3, 1906. She was the last surviving member of the pioneer Gunn Family. Preceded in death by sisters, Jessie, Aggie, Florence and brothers, John, Bruce and Wally. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Diego Abeita. She was a retired rancher, an avid gardener, a wonderful cook and a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by many friends and relatives along with her daughters, Louise A. Chewiwi and her husband, Steven; son, Richard Abeita and wife, Cheryl of Hawaii; four granddaughters, Linda and husband, Todd Jiron, Susan Chewiwi, Jessica and Becky Abeita; and her loving friend, Leona Lente. May she rest in peace with her many friends, relatives and pets. Services will be Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fern Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal SE. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Alderete -- Sofronia Alderete, age 90, passed away April 21, 2001 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Justo, and daughter, Beatrice. Fona is survived by her son, Jesse Alderete; sister, Rupe Gallegos; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved and will miss her. Services will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2001. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2001 with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her family and friends. Brudidge -- Louise Brundidge of Albuquerque, NM, a 30 year resident of the Albuquerque area and previously a 31 year resident of New York, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Albuquerque. She was 88. She was a retired principal for Garden Hill School for 13 years from 1958 to 1971. She was also an educator for Overlook School in Dutchess County for two years and at Claverack, NY from 1936 to 1943. The daughter of Arthur Daniel Brundidge and Jeanette Deyo Dubois Brundidge, she was born April 26, 1912 in Walden, New York. She served in the Army during World War II having attained the rank of Major. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, Beta Mu Chapter, Champagne, IL. Huguenot Society of New Paltz, NY., Alumni Association, University of Michigan. Order of Americans of Armorial Ancestry., Retired Officers Association., Reserve Officers Association., Elder and Deaconess in Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Albuquerque, NM. She played in the Stoolies at the church which was a handbell group. Survivors include several cousins. She was preceeded in death by her brother, Dr. Arthur Brundidge and sister, Polly Feinberg. A Memorial Service will be at Immanuel Presbyterian Church 114 Carlisle SE on Thursday April 26, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Carter -- Mary B. Carter, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died Sunday, April 22, 2001. She is survived by sister, Cornelia McCormick and husband, Robert; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends, including Larry Wiley. Mrs. Carter was a Girl Scout leader for 45 years. She was a member of Progress Woman's Club and Woman's Club of Albuquerque. Chilton -- Lyman F. Chilton, 65, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, was taken home to be with our wonderful Saviour, Jesus, on April 20, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jeannine; son, Wes Chilton and wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Dana Chilton, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Brandon and Amanda Barnhouse of Farmington; sister, Jane Mohon and husband, Wayne of Albuquerque; and brother, Glen Chilton and wife Gerry, of Elephant Butte, NM. Mr. Chilton was preceded in death by his parents, John and Augusta Chilton; and brothers, John Chilton and James Laster. Lyman served in the Army National Guard for 8 years. He worked at Southern Union Gas Company for 10 years. He also worked for PNM for 25 years, retiring in 1988. After retiring, he drove a school bus for APS for three years, transporting special needs children. Mr. Chilton was a member of Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church. Services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church, 7001 San Antonio NE, with Pastor Harold Johnson officiating. Dennis -- Virginia "Ginny" Dennis, 63, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Albuquerque, NM, at Anna Kaseman Hospice following a long illness. Born, Virginia Glen London, on July 20, 1937 in Westminster, TX to Ted and Thelma London. She moved to Sulphur Springs, TX in 1943 and to Albuquerque in 1961. She has resided in Albuquerque since that time. Ginny graduated from Texas A and M University-Commerce in 1958 at the age of 20. Following graduation, she taught in the Odessa and Lubbock Texas Public Schools and the Albuquerque Public Schools until 1967, when she changed her profession to full-time"mom." She was a volunteer in the Albuquerque Public Schools for several years. She enjoyed helping others. Ginny was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and Partnership Class for 36 years. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed the company of many friends with whom she played bridge and participated in Jazzercise. She found particular enjoyment in attending family gatherings, her children and grandchildren's baseball and soccer games and their other activities. She also found great pleasure in music, traveling and working in her garden. She enjoyed each reminder of the beauty of creation. She is survived by her husband, Al Dennis; children, Glen and wife, Nikki Dennis, Christopher Dennis and fiance, Phyllis Aragon and Anne Dennis; grandchildren, Bryan and Taylor Dennis, all of Albuquerque; brother, Randall London and wife, Mable of Bonham, TX; three nieces, Cynthia Jones of Bonham, TX, Beth Hannes and her husband, Kevin of Springfield, VA and Hailey Lantz and husband, Joseph of Sherman, TX; four great-nephews; and two great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Thelma London; and nephew, John London. Giles -- Samuel L. Giles, Sr., MSgt U.S. Army, retired, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away April 19, 2001. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Upon his retirement from the military, he was employed with Sun Tran of Albuquerque for several years. Mr. Giles was also active as a 33rd Degree Mason and Shriner. He is survived by his sons, Samuel L. Giles, Jr. and Willie D. Giles, both of Albuquerque; and daughter, Shirley Giles of Littleton, CO. Gutierrez -- Mr. Adolfo V. Gutierrez went to Heaven to be with our Lord and our Mama, Martha on April 19, 2001. He was born December 1, 1948 in Cuba, NM to Moises and the late Martha Gutierrez. Hoskins -- Lucille E. Hoskins, age 84, departed from us on Friday, April 20, 2001. Lucille E. Hoskins was born March 18, 1917 at Okmulgee, OK to Mr. & Mrs. Sherman M. Robinson. She was married September 25, 1931 to Delmer J. Hoskins of Nocoma, TX. This union lasted 56 years and was blessed with three sons, Sherman Rex of Albuquerque, Edward Lee of Regina, NM, Joe Ray of Thoreau, NM; one daughter, June Ketchum of Dyersburg, TN; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren and many more loved ones and friends. She loved them all and counted them as blessings. Her loving son, Delmer Jackson II, preceded her in death on April 20, 1982 of Albuquerque, NM, her beloved husband, Delmer Jackson Hoskins on October 20, 1987 of Albuquerque, and Emily E. Bell on October 23, 1991, a precious great granddaughter from Dyersburg, TN. She has been a resident of New Mexico since 1938. She was an active minister of the Gospel for 30 years. Twelve of which she served as a missionary on the Navajo Reservation. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 pm, April 23, 2001 at the Storng-Thorne Mortuary. Jaramillo -- Mr. Ruben G. Jaramillo, 81, went home to the Lord on Sunday, April 22, 2001. Ruben was born March 28, 1920 in Sedillo Hill, NM, to Transito and Manuelita Gonzales. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Margaret Jaramillo; a daughter Mella Garcia and friend OJ De Varas, daughter Dorela Gonzales and husband Steve L., son Marvin L. Jaramillo, son Ernest R. Jaramillo, and daughter Melba L. Jaramillo; five grandchildren Alfred L. Candelaria, Vicente R. Garcia, Jessica D. Garcia, Adrianne N. Garcia and Daniel P. Garcia; two sisters Celia Jaramillo and Josefita Saiz; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He will be deeply missed by his loving family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the 8th Street Chapel at Garcia Mortuary. Johnston -- Marjorie Cecil Johnston, 96, a resident of Albuquerque, born December 27, 1904 in Clark County, MO, daughter of Jordan Leroy Johnston and Maggie Sisson Johnston, died Thursday, April 19, 2001. She is survived by a sister, Edith K. Sampson; two nieces, Ellanie and Mindy Sampson; and a great-nephew, Alexander Daniel Sterling, all of Albuquerque; and two cousins, Helen Bricker and Dorothy Jean Phillips, both of Kahoka, MO. Marjorie enjoyed a long professional career including high school, college and graduate school teaching, supervision of student teachers, and inter-American and international education and administrative oversight of the National Defense Education Act. At the time of her retirement in 1967, she was Chief of the Instructional Resources Branch of the United States Office of Education. Marjorie was author of Education in Mexico, published by the U.S. Government Printing Office, and co-author of four Spanish textbooks, as well as contributor to several professional journals. She is listed in the World Who's Who of Women and in the Phi Beta Kappa Directory. Marjorie was given many honors, beginning as high school Valedictorian in 1923 and election to Phi Beta Kappa, Junior Five, at The University of Texas in 1926. In 1939, she received a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship for post-doctoral research in language teaching at the Harvard Radcliffe Graduate School and the University of New Mexico. In 1942, Marjorie was named the first language teaching Specialist in the United States Office of Education. For three summers, during WWII, she was appointed the U.S. Director of the Spanish Language Institute sponsored by the Department of State at the National University of Mexico. Marjorie represented the Office of Education at the opening of the Field School of the Texas State College for Women, in Saltillo, Mexico. In 1946, she organized and headed the Language Department of the new American Institute for Foreign Trade, established on the site of the Air Force Air Field Thunderbird Number One. In 1950, Marjorie represented the U.S. Office of Education in the delegation invited by the Cuban Government to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the public school system in Cuba. Also in 1950, she was elected President of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and for several years was an Associate Editor of Hispania, the journal of that association. In 1960, Marjorie was a participant in the first Cultural Exchange Program with the Soviet Union. She gave the commencement address, in 1966, to the first class to graduate from the All-Spanish Curriculum at Covell College. After retirement in Albuquerque, in 1967, Marjorie did volunteer work at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and with the Friends for the Albuquerque Public Library, serving for ten years as manager of the used bookshop in the Main Library. She became active in the Pan American Round Table in 1976 and for eight years chaired the Education Committee, which offered school programs to stimulate interest in the Latin American countries. Marjorie was a life member of the National Education Association, Pi Lambda Theta and the Modern Language Association; and honorary member of the American Association of Teachers of French and the Texas State Association of Foreign Language Teachers. She was an active gardener and loved roses, above all other flowers. Marjorie will be deeply missed by her family. Interment of cremains were held in Bethlehem Cemetery, Clark County, MO, at the foot of Baby Leroy Sisson Johnston's grave and adjacent to that of her parents. A brief Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 24, 11:00 a.m. at University Heights United Methodist Church, 2210 Silver SE. Krachman -- In Loving Memory of my beloved daughter Lauren Saenz Krachman August 22, 1950-April 24, 1994AND My beloved mother Mae Marquez May 29, 1904-April 24, 1969Time has a way of standing still, yet when a loved one is missing a blink of an eye becomes seven years and it's 32 years for my precious mother. The entire family felt your leaving, my princess, and through it all, Jesus became our Comforter and our Savior. I will love you and miss you forever my princess. Manning -- Madeline G. Manning went to be with the Lord after a long illness. born in San Antonio, NM on May 24, 1916 to Solia Pino and Robert McIntyre they moved to Albuquerque when she was about six years old and lived here and in California. She is preceded in death by her beloved Joe to whom she was married for 51 years, and four brothers, Robert, Johnnie, Ducan and"Pado" McIntyre, daughter-in-law, Florence Manning and son-in-law, Jack McCune. she is survived by her four children, Pat Manning, Joe Manning and wife, Chris, Colleen McCune and Madeline Akins; she is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Ed Manning and wife, Cathy, Ray Manning and wife, Annette, Cecilia Ramirez and husband, Eddie, Ralph Manning and Timothy Manning, Joe McCune and wife, Sue, Mary McCune, Trish McCune and husband, Dave Crandall, Robert McCune and wife, Wendy, Meighan McCune and husband, Terry Ellicott, Kim Akins, Kathy O'Dea and husband, Micheal; and 13 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister, Theresa Zamora; brother, Boleslo McIntyre and wife, Alice, Bill Mctommi; sisters-in-law, Ruth McIntyre, Chris McIntyre, and Patty McIntyre and many nieces and nephews. Peck -- Nan Peck, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001. Nan was born as Annie Laurie Whyte on December 6, 1915 in Glasgow, Scotland. One of five girls born to Charles Petrie Whyte and Isabella Mary Cumming Whyte, the family immigrated to the U.S. in 1926, settling in Detroit, MI. She graduated from high school and worked for ten years at the Awrey Bakery in Detroit. Nan moved to California at age 26 where she married Ralph E. Peck, an Air Force pilot, in 1943. He was lost in action that same year. Nan worked as the Brand Clerk for the New Mexico Livestock Board, dispensing brands for the states cattle and sheep. She retired in 1980, after 25 years of service. Nan was preceded in death by three of her sisters; and her husband of 40 years, Albert Peck. She is survived by her sister, Bette Evans and husband, Leonard of Albuquerque; and numerous loving and attentive nieces and nephews and their families. Nan had many, many friends all whom loved her and will miss her. Nan's last days were spent at The Green Project (900 Espanola NE), an elder care facility for ladies, where she was treated with much respect and affection. To these dear people at The Green Project, we give our thanks. We have become a part of their family, which includes staff members and the dear ladies who remain at that facility. Their tears were shed with ours and we will never forget them. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be announced. Peterson -- Jeanette Stanton Peterson, 71, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2001. Jeanette was born in Denver, Colorado and moved to Dawson, New Mexico when she was six weeks old. She was raised primarily in and around New Mexico and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1948. Jeanette attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and received her B.S. in Education from the University of New Mexico. She became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority while attending UNM. Jeanette primarily taught first and second grade for over 35 years, 30 years with APS in Albuquerque. Her teaching career began in Los Alamos when it was still a closed city. She also taught in Charleston, South Carolina and California. During her teaching career with APS, she taught at Lew Wallace, Eubank, Hawthorne and Dennis Chavez Elementary. She was an extremely dedicated teacher and was named in Who's Who of American Teachers in 1990. Mrs. Peterson (as she was known), touched hundreds of young lives and was dearly loved by her students, as she adored them. Over the years, she heard from many of her students as they graduated from high school, college and married. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and former students. Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Jill Peterson of Albuquerque; son, Randy Peterson and wife, Christi and grandchildren, Ross and Raleigh of Iraan, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cora and Bill Stanton of Santa Fe. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, April 26, 2001, 2:00 p.m., at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution Ave. NE, with Richard Peterson officiating. Rise -- Carl Rise, a prominent lumberman and wood moulding manufacturer, died peacefully early Sunday morning, April 22, 2001, in the arms of his beloved wife, Vara. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and so much more. He gave unselfishly and shared his wisdom with so many and was always willing to teach. Education was a top priority for Carl, and he personally assisted several to advance their studies for college degrees. He received a Bachelor's degree from Iowa State and a Master's degree from Syracuse, New York in forestry, which led him to become the founder of Best Moulding Corp. in 1947. He made the company flourish and continues to employ 60 to 70 employees. Being a fair businessman, it brought him to earn the highest respect and admiration in the community. Carl was born in Rapid City, SD and settled in Albuquerque in 1945. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Carl was preceded in death by his sister, Helen McCauley from California. He is survived by his wife, Vara; sister, Betty Haulsey; brother Gerald, both from California; two sons, Joe and wife, Kathy and John and wife, Karen; three step-sons, Steve and wife, Patty, Gordon and wife, Rena Marlowe and Frank and wife, Helen DeMott; and many grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Father Brian Taylor officiating. Rivera -- Isaiah Rivera, age four months, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 22, 2001. He is survived by his parents; Gilbert and Sandra Rivera; grandparents, Nancy Lerma and Oralia Hernandez; brother; Angelo Rivera; great-grandmother, Louisa Montoya; three aunts; five uncles; many cousins; and honorary aunt and uncle, Paula and Ray Corona. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Mickey Aragon and Martin Trujillo. Weaver -- Thomas Anthony Weaver, 47, passed away Sunday at his residence in Brownsville, TX. Mr. Weaver was a resident of Brownsville for the past four years, he was formerly of Albuquerque. He enjoyed traveling to the Philippine Islands. He was an avid baseball player and coached little league and Women's baseball. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, and St. Mary's Catholic Church. Memorial Services will be announced at a later date. Survivors include, parents, Jose and Jean Cortinas, Browsville, TX; three sons, David Weaver, Thomas Weaver and Brian Weaver all of Las Vegas, NM; one daughter, Anita Weaver, Las Lunas, NM; two brothers, Michael Weaver of Albuquerque and Gordon Weaver, Roseville, NM; two sisters, Laura Perea, Albuquerque and Theresa Whitecraft, Willingboro, NJ; one grandchild, Darla. He was preceded by his father, Thomas Weaver, September 1978; grandfather, Clarence Sullins, 1950; grandmothers, Mabel Sullins 1990, Elsie Weaver 1976.
