Obituary for Peterson

Jeanette Stanton Peterson, 71, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2001. Jeanette was born in Denver, Colorado and moved to Dawson, New Mexico when she was six weeks old. She was raised primarily in and around New Mexico and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1948. Jeanette attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and received her B.S. in Education from the University of New Mexico. She became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority while attending UNM. Jeanette primarily taught first and second grade for over 35 years, 30 years with APS in Albuquerque. Her teaching career began in Los Alamos when it was still a closed city. She also taught in Charleston, South Carolina and California. During her teaching career with APS, she taught at Lew Wallace, Eubank, Hawthorne and Dennis Chavez Elementary. She was an extremely dedicated teacher and was named in Who's Who of American Teachers in 1990. Mrs. Peterson (as she was known), touched hundreds of young lives and was dearly loved by her students, as she adored them. Over the years, she heard from many of her students as they graduated from high school, college and married. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and former students. Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Jill Peterson of Albuquerque; son, Randy Peterson and wife, Christi and grandchildren, Ross and Raleigh of Iraan, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cora and Bill Stanton of Santa Fe. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, April 26, 2001, 2:00 p.m., at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution Ave. NE, with Richard Peterson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch, 6209 Hendrix NE, 87110 or a charity of your choice to help benefit children.
