Maxwell -- Mary"Elsie" Maxwell passed away at her residence on Monday, July 22, 2002. Mrs. Maxwell was born to Flavio A. Chacon and Lucinda Martinez Chacon in La Lama, NM on October 25, 1934. Elsie is survived by one son, Arnold L. Maxwell and wife, Karen of Albuquerque; three daughters, Veronica Fastnacht and husband, Paul of Albuquerque, Maxine Maxwell and Jim Beyer of Albuquerque, Ann Maxwell and Zeke Chavez of Rio Rancho, NM; three brothers, Tom Chacon and wife, Lucille of Littleton, CO, Ray Chacon of Denver, CO, Clifford Chacon and wife, Jean of Albuquerque; and one sister, Linda O'Donnell and husband, Fred of Trinidad, CO; eight grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold L. Maxwell; and one son, Dean Maxwell. From 1964 to 1968, Elsie volunteered at Mesa View Elementary as"Room Mother" for her children's classes and as a helper in the school's cafeteria. From 1968-1974, she volunteered at Casa San Jose with Margaret Gutierrez, helping the unwed mothers with their newborns. It was through that program that Charlie Begay, one of the program's children came to live with the Maxwell's as a foster child for about a year. Then from 1974-1977, she directed the"Guitar Choir" at St. Teresa Church which was 21 members strong and included her four oldest children. In February, 1976, she became the President of the First Legion of Mary at St. Teresa under the direction of Fr. Valentine Young, O.F.M. in 1977, she volunteered at the Grants Health Department and worked under the direction of local nurse, Margaret Bonomo. In 1983, she worked at Grants Health Store. This was where she really increased her interest and knowledge in herbs and their healing properties. On August 15, 1988, she became a Eucharistic Minister under Father Howard's direction and took communion to the sick. Elsie taught CCD, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, for many years both at home and at St. Teresa School. In 1979, she worked at Kriegler's Deli for about a year as a cook with her daughters, Maxine and Ann and her sister, Linda. From 1992-1999, she was a volunteer and substitute teacher at St. Teresa School where her granddaughters, Vanessa and Sandra attended. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2002 at Grants Mortuary Chapel. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, July 26, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Father Emeric Nordmeyer, O.F.M. officiating. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park. Pallbearers include Cpl. Vanessa Maxwell, Sterling Davidson, Fred O'Donnell, Zeke Chavez, Jim Beyer, Ronald Maxwell. Honorary Pallbearers include Sandra Maxwell, Alexandria Maxwell, Mariah Maxwell, Matthew Maxwell, Kristopher Maxwell, Marcus Maxwell, Shannon Shiveley, Dominic Casados, Krystalee Casados, Brian Maxwell, Paul Cordova, Troy Chacon, Paul Fastnacht and Joe Silva. In lieu of flowers, Elsie had requested that donations be made to St. Teresa Catholic School, PO Box 668 Grants, NM 87020.

Perea -- Eugene Perea died on Thursday July 18, 2002 in Albuquerque at the age of 81. He was Born Oct 26, 1921. He was raised in Torrance and Lincoln County. He graduated from UNM in Albuq. He was good in basketball and track. He served in the U.S. Signal Corps. from July 1942 to Dec 1945 in the Continental U.S.and South Pacific Theatre, under the command of General Douglas McArthur. He served as a Technical Sargent in Communications Secret Service. He was proceded in death by his wife, Della O. Perea; and brothers, Ernest, Jose, Antonio and Julian Perea; sisters, Abrella Garza, Jessie Baca, Carmen Romero Lena Cordova; son-in-law, Fred Mora. He worked for the State of NM. Taxation and Revenue as well as purchasing. He was self employed in tax work and operated a ranching cattle operations which he loved and was very successful. He is survived by his son, Eugene Patrick Perea and Felicia Mora; daughters, Dolores Crollett and husband, Richard, and Connie Mora; brother, Nicholas S. Perea; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Perea will be held Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Richard Perea, Gilbert Perea, J.J. Romero, Jake Perea, Daniel Mora, and Ronald Perea, Honorary pallberars will be Michael Perea, Chris Cordova, Edward Ybarra, Michael Rohde, and Diego Sedillo. Rosary service will be held Sunday at 7pm at the Salazar & Sons Mortuary 400 3rd St. S.W.

Gonzales -- Mrs. Carmen C. Gonzales, 83, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on July 10, 2002. Mrs. Gonzales is the beloved wife of 60 years to Mr. Marvin Gonzales. Mrs. Gonzales is also survived by her two daughters, Carmen J. Pennington and husband, Carl R. Sr., Marlene C. Martinez and husband, Raymond P.; one brother, Armando Cordoba and wife, Antonia; a sister-in-law, Rose Cordova; seven grandchildren, Carlton, Carmen, Jacqueline, Patrick, Marlo, Ramoncito and Joseph; ten great grandchildren, Aaron, Samantha, Robert, Nicole, Matthew, Garrett, Alexandra, Gabriella, Kylie and Dominic; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Gonzales was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Randy was preceded in death by one brother Carl in 1994. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen. He also served in the US Navy and the Naval Reserve, and had been employed by the US Postal Service. Viewing and visitation will be held Monday July 8, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne with Brother Fred Gillard officiating. Hanrahan -- Michael F. Hanrahan, June 7, 1930 - June 30, 2002. Michael Hanrahan is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Esther R. Hanrahan; five children, Michael Steven and Cindy, Peggy and Tim Martin, Donald, Sandra Cordova, Mike James and Debra; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Monica, Brandon, Amanda, Chris, Thomas James, Andrea, and Rachel; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Hanrahan and Patsy Reed. Michael served with honor our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; served with diligence the state of New Mexico as the Secretary of Corrections; served with pride the city of Albuquerque as the Director of the BCDC; served with solidarity and tenacity Laborers as an officer and business agent of I.A.T.S.E. Local 423 as well as an officer on the Executive Board of A.F.L.-C.I.O. His absence will only be physical as his spirit and drive continues to serve those to whom over the many years he lent guidance and taught diligence and individuals in various fields to learn, grow and prosper. He's worked hard to the day and has been a giver all his life and now he rests. In lieu of public good-byes, there will be only a Private Family Service and his wishes are that those who know him will take a moment to reflect on the importance of life and learn, grow and live every minute of every hour of every day to the fullest and never sweat the small stuff.

Gualin -- Julia Gualin, 79, went home to be with the Lord on June 23, 2002. She was born on September 5, 1922 in Guatemala C.A. and lived in Dallas, TX. Julia is survived by her sons, Arturo Gualima in Guatemala, Roberto Ruiz and wife, Rosa and granddaughters in Maryland; Noel Ruiz and wife, Donna in Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren, Rosa and Anibal Gualin in Guatemala, CA, and grandson, Kenneth Cordova in Albuquerque, NM. She will be deeply missed by her loving family. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening in the Eighth Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary at 7:00 p.m. Final viewing will be held on Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Services are in the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. S.W. 243-5222.
