Alderete -- Danny Walter Alderete was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico September 15, 1947 and passed away July 22, 2002. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend. Danny proudly served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was loyal to his country. Having been wounded twice, he received two Purple Hearts and numerous other medals of commendation. Danny was preceded in death by his father, Neddy; and is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Rita Alderete of the family home in Albuquerque; three daughters, Julie Padilla, D'Ana Alderete, and Danielle Alderete; one son, Daniel Alderete; his mother, Genevieve Alderete of Los Lunas; sisters, Helen Gallegos, Kathy Parra and husband, Michael; brothers, David Alderete, Neddy Alderete Jr. and wife, Theresa; grandchildren, Alexandria Aguilar and Avarie Gallegos; numerous other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at Montgomery Place Church of God, 3601 Montgomery NE., at Carlisle. A viewing and prayer service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2002 at 9:00am, with Pastors Richard Mansfield and Ernest McBride officiating. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery 11:30 a.m. with military honors. Pallbearers will be Phillip Gallegos, Anthony Valdez, Steven Alderete Juan Garcia, Phillip McBride, Anthony Parra, and Angelo Garcia. Amparan -- Francisco J."Quico" Amparan, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died Monday, July 22, 2002 at the age of 80. He is survived by his loving wife, Adelfa Amparan; daughters, Erlinda Sedillo and husband, Solomon, Victoria Muller and husband, Avelino, Diana Slopek and husband, Jeff, Eunice Ortega and husband, Albert, and Rosa Amparan; sons, Edmundo and wife, Kimberly, Victor and wife, Sylvia, Raul and wife, Linda, and David Amparan; 30 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Javier Francisco. Francisco was born in Camargo Chihuahua, Mexico on December 2, 1921. He married Adelfa Tercero on January 27, 1951. They started their family in Carlsbad, NM where five of their children were born then moved to Albuquerque in 1957 where their other five children were born. Francisco worked very hard as a cement finisher for over 30 years. Before retirement, he worked for the NM Contractors Association while running his own business with his sons, Amparan and Sons. He was very proud of his sons wanting to be just like him. He was very talented and enjoyed getting together with all of his family and friends, to sing and play his guitar. Music was his passion. When he showed up to a party, everyone always wanted the honor of enjoying his beautiful voice and wonderful talent of playing the guitar. He was very proud of all of his children and always wanted to have them play in an orchestra. Our brother, Edmundo, is carrying on his love of music. He played with various Mariachi groups, and sang with a Trio. He started his own group Frank and Sus Latinos and also played with Los Troubadores Trio. He was director of the Spanish Choir for many years. On Sundays, he enjoyed singing and playing the guitar for the Spanish Mass at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church. This past Sunday, the Lord allowed him to play his guitar one last time for him and his parish family. He lived a very fulfilling life surrounded by his loving wife, Adelfa"Fita" who cared for him with so much love everyday. They were always together enjoying each other and all of his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. The house was always full of children running around and his girls always gave him a smile from ear to ear. He always encouraged all of his children and grandchildren to speak the beautiful Spanish language. He was a very kind, humble, loving, and respected man who will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 24, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of The Assumption Church, Lomas at Tennessee. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 25, 2002, 9:30 a.m., at Our Lady of The Assumption Church, Lomas at Tennessee. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Blackwell -- Stanley A. Blackwell, age 39, and a resident of Las Cruces, passed away July 20, 2002. Capps -- Afton Capps, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Monday, July 22, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Terry Capps and wife, Helen of Jemez Pueblo, Earl Capps and wife, Kacey of Greenfield, WI, and David Capps and wife, Deedie of Thornton, CO; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Della Allred of Duncan, AZ, LaVerd Gunter of Tempe, AZ; and brother, Dean Johnson of Conchas, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Berry Capps in February 2001. Mrs. Capps was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Manzano Ward. Dziedzic -- Ronald Stuart Dziedzic born May 22, 1949 in Dayton, OH passed away on July 23, 2002 at the VA Hospital after a short illness. Ron is survived by mother, Juanita Dziedzic; brother, Robert Dziedzic; sisters, Catherine Skillern and husband, Timothy Skillern, Emily Frazier and husband, Jerry Frazier; three nephews; and two nieces. Ron attended Sandia High School and was a graduate of TVI in Albuquerque. Ron was also a Vietnam Veteran. Ron left Albuquerque, NM in 1979 to reside in Portland, OR for five years then returned to Albuquerque. Private Memorial Services will be with immediate family. Gassman -- Ian Alexander Gassman, seven months, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, lost his battle for life on July 23, 2002. He was born on December 19, 2001 and spent all but nine days of his short life in Presbyterian Hospital. He put up a courageous fight for seven wonderful months of life. During that time, he was a great joy to his family and touched many people's hearts. Ian was born with a condition called gastroschisis which ultimately resulted in End-Stage Liver Disease. He was awaiting a life saving, liver and small bowel transplant at the time of his death. Ian is survived by his loving parents, Robert and Barbara Gassman; his older brother, John Walter Gassman; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Dolores Lovato, all of Los Lunas; his paternal grandmother Irma Gassman of Tucumcari, NM; his Uncles and Aunts, John and Yvonne Lovato, of Los Lunas; Ken and LeeAnn Burke of Carlsbad, NM; and his cousins, Lauren and Makaela Lovato of Los Lunas; Kendyl and Richard Jacob of Carlsbad. He is also survived by his many great uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends that loved him dearly. All services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A visitation will take place on Thursday, July 25, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 26, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at the San Clemente Cemetery. Griego -- Irma Griego, a loving wife and friend, caring mother and nurturing grandmother, went home with the Lord on July 24, 2002. She is survived by her husband, George Griego; daughters, Brenda Reese and Melissa Morlett both of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Krysten, Sean and Ryan; sisters, Mary and husband, Vidal Sena, Norma and husband, Jerry Larrazolo, Diana Charles and Patsy and husband, David Perez; parents, Frank and Ofilia Charles; numerous nieces and nephews; mother and father in law, Lila and George T. Gurule -- Mrs. Josephine (Fina) Gurule, 86, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on July 23, 2002 at home with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Gurule is survived by one daughter, Helen Pino; seven sons, Alex Gurule and wife, Bertha, Adolph Gurule and wife, Pat, Alfred Gurule and wife, Sadie, Willie Gurule and wife, Dolores, Lawrence Gurule and wife, Lupe, Richard Gurule and Raymond Gurule; two sisters, Vickie Lopez and Erlinda Garcia and husband, Frank; three brothers, Joe T. Garcia and wife, Josie, Andy Garcia and wife, Lena, Eddie Garcie and wife, Lucy; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Gurule was preceded in death by her husband, Esequiel Gurule (1978); her daughter, Frances Gurule; and two sons, Gilbert and Leo Gurule. Mrs. Gurule was a member of the Catholic Church. Gutierrez -- Reinaldo (Ray) D. Gutierrez, 59, a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Tuesday, July 23, 2002, while surrounded by his loving family. Ray was a life long resident of Albuquerque; a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church; a United State Army Veteran; and member of the American Legion Post 69. Ray enjoyed working with horses; he was a musician; but, the joy of life were his children and grandchildren. He married the love of his life, Jeanette Sena on November 3, 1962 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Ray will always be remembered by his sensitive but, humorous nature, he was a loving and caring man. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus Gutierrez; father-in-law, Miguel Sena; a brother, Bobby Gutierrez; and a brother-in-law, Benny Garcia. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jeanette Gutierrez of the family home; his wonderful children, Ray Gutierrez and wife, Margie, Stephen Gutierrez and wife, Lorina, all of Albuquerque, Frances Velarde and husband, Rick of Farmington, NM; and Barbara Del Curto and husband, Bryan, of Rio Rancho; his precious grandchildren, Deanna, Derrick, Robert, Jonathan, Nicole, Ivan, Nathan, Christopher, Jonathan, Chubbers; and one great-grandson, Ethan. He is also survived by his mother, Rosario Gutierrez, six brothers; six sisters; his mother-in-law, Lola Sea; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Ray will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Kruger -- Elizabeth"Betty" Kruger, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, July 17, 2002. She is survived by her husband, N. John Kruger; daughter, Bonnie Kelly and husband Hank, all of Albuquerque; grandson, Warren Kelly of Taos, NM; granddaughters, Rachel Robinson and husband Paul and Michal Kelly, all of Albuquerque and Amy Kruger of New Orleans, LA; great-grandsons, Bryce and Thomas Robinson of Albuquerque; and brother, William Rundell of Pennsylvania. Betty was born in Chicago, IL. Among her numerous accomplishments, she was the State Chairman of the Republican Party in New Mexico and twice chaired the Albuquerque Civic Symphony Ball. Betty was a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. She was an active member of the Old Glass Club, Progress Women's Club, Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, Cosmopolitan Women's Club, P.E.O. Chapter AN, Daughters of the American Revolution Charles Dibrell Chapter, the Christian Women's Club and Daughter's of the Nile. Cremation has taken place. Maxwell -- Mary"Elsie" Maxwell passed away at her residence on Thursday, July 12, 2002. Mrs. Maxwell was born to Flavio A. Chacon and Lucinda Martinez Chacon in La Lama, NM on October 25, 1934. Elsie is survived by one son, Arnold L. Maxwell and wife, Karen of Albuquerque; three daughters, Veronica Fastnacht and husband, Paul of Albuquerque, Maxine Maxwell and Jim Beyer of Albuquerque, Ann Maxwell and Zeke Chavez of Rio Rancho, NM; three brothers, Tom Chacon and wife, Lucille of Littleton, CO, Ray Chacon of Denver, CO, Clifford Chacon and wife, Jean of Albuquerque; and one sister, Linda O'Donnell and husband, Fred of Trinidad, CO; eight grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold L. Maxwell; and one son, Dean Maxwell. From 1964 to 1968, Elsie volunteered at Mesa View Elementary as"Room Mother" for her children's classes and as a helper in the school's cafeteria. From 1968-1974, she volunteered at Casa San Jose with Margaret Gutierrez, helping the unwed mothers with their newborns. It was through that program that Charlie Begay, one of the program's children came to live with the Maxwell's as a foster child for about a year. Then from 1974-1977, she directed the"Guitar Choir" at St. Teresa Church which was 21 members strong and included her four oldest children. In February, 1976, she became the President of the First Legion of Mary at St. Teresa under the direction of Fr. Valentine Young, O.F.M. in 1977, she volunteered at the Grants Health Department and worked under the direction of local nurse, Margaret Bonomo. In 1983, she worked at Grants Health Store. This was where she really increased her interest and knowledge in herbs and their healing properties. On August 15, 1988, she became a Eucharistic Minister under Father Howard's direction and took communion to the sick. Elsie taught CCD, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, form many years both at home and at St. Teresa School. In 1979, she worked at Kriegler's Deli for about a year as a cook with her daughters, Maxine and Ann and her sister, Linda. From 1992-1999, she was a volunteer and substitute teacher at St. Teresa School where her granddaughters, Vanessa and Sandra attend school. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2002 at Grants Mortuary Chapel. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, July 26, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with the Father Emeric Nordmeyer, O.F.M. officiating. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park. Pallbearers include Cpl. Vanessa Maxwell, Sterling Davidson, Fred O'Donnell, Zeke Chavez, Jim Beyer, Ronald Maxwell. Scranton -- Georgia Louise Scranton, 84, of Corbin, KY, passed away Monday, July 22, 2002 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, KY. the daughter of the late Clarence R. and Dena Dolvin Fitz; stepdaughter of the late Millie Fitz, she was born January 13, 1918 at Cincinnati, OH. Mrs. Scranton was a homemaker, a Kentucky Colonel and an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Corbin Senior Center, Felts Homemakers, Corbin AARP and the Corbin Chapter of Railroad Retirees. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Scranton (November 2, 1980). Shelton -- James Shelton, age 68, passed away at his residence in Socorro, NM on July 23, 2002. He was born January 1, 1934 in Lamesa, TX to Jessie and Aunvah (Kennedy) Shelton. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Donna Morrow Shelton of Socorro, NM; sons, Rusty Sheldon and wife, Bealinda of Bloomfield, NM, Danny Shelton and wife, Sadie of Flora Vista, NM; daughters, Donna Lou Muncy and husband, Cecil of Dusty, NM, Ellen Goodson and husband, Mike of Albuquerque, Jackie Muncy and husband, Rick of Weed, NM, Michelle Wilson and husband, John of Bloomfield, NM; two sisters, Barbara Stearns and husband, Charlie of Silver City, NM and Sandra and Manuel of Datil, NM; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 27, 2002 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Socorro with Rev. Ed Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Socorro Cemetery. Talbot -- Wanita Y. Talbot, 8/12/1936 - 7/17/2002, 65, a resident of Tome, NM for 43 years and a life long resident of the valley, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2002. She was a very hard worker and during the summer months you would always find her outdoors. Gardening was her passion as canning was her art, yet her family was her life. Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert C."Bob" Talbot in 1995; and her twelve brothers and sisters. Wanita is survived by her four children, Bob and Sheri of Sabinal; Lynette and John of Socorro; John and Jessica; and Billy all of Tome; her ten grandchildren, Chris, Sarah, and Shannon Wright; Joshua and Lottie Sherwood; Erika and John Brian Talbot, and Jonathan Sena; April and Audrey Talbot; her three great grandchildren, Jayde Talbot, Scarlet Covington, and Jewlisa Wright; her brother, Sam Blaylock of Los Lunas; and her two sisters, Kanas Long of Los Lunas and Betty Hall of Tularosa. She is also survived by multiple in-laws and out-laws, nieces, nephews, and many loving friends. Wanita will be greatly missed by each and everyone. A visitation was held on Monday, July 22 at Romero Funeral Home Chapel at 11:30am with a funeral service at 12:00pm. Interment followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00pm. Weiler -- Ann Weiler was born in South Bend, IN on August 10, 1923 into a family of nine kids, and passed away July 23, 2002 in Albuquerque, NM. She went through hard times during the Depression but found and married a wonderful man, Sam Caspano. Together they had two loving daughters; and four delightful grandchildren. Four years after Sam went home to see the Lord, Ann met another wonderful man, Bob Weiler, and married him in 1986. Together with Bob's three loving children and three delightful grandchildren, Ann's family grew to love and care for one another. Now she is in Heaven united with all those who predeceased her and awaits a large glorious family reunion. She is survived by husband, Bob Weiler of Albuquerque; daughter, Sandy Caspano of Denver; and two grandsons, Patrick Turnock and wife, Trish Kaminski of Denton, TX and Kevin Turnock and wife, Susan of Silver Spring, MD; daughter, Carol Scussel and husband, Ed of Albuquerque; and granddaughter, Samantha Scussel of Charlottesville, VA; and grandson, David Scussel of Albuquerque; sisters, Rose Miles of Las Vegas, NV, and Dorothy Collier of Wayland, MI; sister-in-law, Fran Fischer of Mishawka, IN; step-daughter, Lorrie Tolbert and husband, Bemmy of Tijeras, NM; step-granddaughter, Stacey Sullivan; and step-grandson, John Sullivan of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Linda Edwards of Peoria, AZ; step-granddaughter, Melissa Shultz of Albuquerque; step-son, Forrest"Woody" Weiler of Clovis, NM. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 24, 2002. Services will be held in the Chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors on Thursday, July 25, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Serving as Pallbearers will be Ed Scussel, David Scussel, Patrick Turnock, Kevin Turnock, Kerry Bogert and John Sullivan.
