Bacon -- Fred J. Bacon, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, died Thursday, July 4, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rosemary Bacon of Albuquerque; daughter, Sandra L. Baker and husband, George of Norfolk, VA; son, Terry R. Bacon and wife, Trish of New York City, NY; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and sister, Leotta J. Freshour of Union, OH. He was preceded in death by one grandson; and one sister. He was a pilot since the age of 15 and served as a Naval Pilot during WWII. In later years, Fred helped his wife with managing The Other Mother Child Care Service. Services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, one-hour prior to service. Cremation will take place after the service. Black -- Jonathan Alan Black, age 39, of Richmond, died Thursday (July 4) at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 13, 1963 and was a 1980 graduate of Richmond High School. He had worked as a paramedic for the former Aid Ambulance Company and was a member of First Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir. He was a volunteer at Westview School and for the American Cancer Society and had served in the United States Navy. He had lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1992 through 2000 where he had worked for Tri-Corp Medical Lab and for Motorla. Survivors include, parents, Clyde and Carol Black of Richmond; brothers, Jeffrey, (Dolores) Black of Albuquerque, N.M., James, (Kristy) Black of Buton, Michigan; grandmother, Florence Deimling; friend, Jeffrey Glenn; one nephew and two nieces. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jennifer Black. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday (July 7) in First Baptist Churc, 1601 South"A" Street. Rev. James Spon will officate. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jonathan Alan Scholarship, for an RHS graduate entering a medical profession, in care of Wayne County Foundation, 33 South 7th Street, Richmond, Indiana 47374. Dark -- Michael Francis Dark, age 37, passed away on July 4, 2002 due to complications from juvenile-onset Diabetes Mellitus. He had lived in Albuquerque since 1978 after moving with his family from England. He worked as a mechanic at Flash Automotive for many years and enjoyed drag-bike racing. He is survived by his son, Ryan and his mother, Trish; his parents, John E. Dark, Sr. and Gillian Dark; and his brother, John E. Duran -- In your sleep quietly today, The Lord and your son, Dominic came to take you home.Ernest Anthony Duran, Sr., 51, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 4, 2002."Tony" was born in Vaughn, NM on November 14, 1950. He was preceded in death by his son, Dominic Elizah Duran and his two brothers, Benny and Domingo"Larry" Duran. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Barbara Duran; sons, Ernest Anthony Duran, Jr., Gabriel Paul Duran and Nicholas Jordan Duran; his daughters, Elizabeth Marie Duran, Michele Lee Duran and Crystal Rose Duran; and his grandchildren, Jonathan, Ariana, Antoinette, Jaden, Elijah, Sierra, and Baby Dominic. He is also survived by his father, Hilario Duran; mother, Dora Duran, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Flora Arvan of Arizona; two sisters, Helen Chavez and Gloria Whorlin; and many other relatives and friends. Tony was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was also a proud Vietnam veteran who lived his life with pride and dignity. Evans -- Dorothy S. Evans, passed away in Albuquerque on Thursday, June 27, 2002. The daughter of George J. and Ollie K. Schardon, she was born at Chicago, IL, March 3, 1923. Dorothy came to Albuquerque over 50 years ago and worked as an electronics assembler for Sandia Labs for 32 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, George L. Schardon, Sr.; and her sister, Margaret Favia. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Margaret Schardon; nieces and nephews, Judith Favia, Kathy Schardon, George L. Schardon, Jr., Nancy Schardon, Alan Schardon, and Larry Schardon; and her very good friends, Carol, Sally and Dolly. Dorothy was very involved her entire life, giving items to school and charities; and was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi, where she served as president several times. No public services are planned. For any who wish, the family suggests memorial gifts in Dorothy's name may be made to the Storehouse, one of her favorite charities. Sunrise Society is serving the family. 891-8200.

Fink -- Arthur H. Fink died on June 2, 2002 at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, and his beloved wife, Ginny. Arthur and Ginny were married 49 years. For 15 of those years, Arthur lovingly cared for his chronically ill wife. Arthur was a proud graduate of Staunton Military Academy and the Detroit Art Institute. After moving to the Pittsburgh area, he sold real estate and antiques. Arthur retired in 1979 from the Alegheny County Assessor's Office. The Finks then moved to Albuquerque for health reasons. Arthur described himself as one who liked to tilt windmills."Mr. Remarkable" was self-sufficient through his 90th year. Arthur is survived by many special friends at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church, Bear Canyon Chapter #4380 of AARP, Share Your Care, and Solid Grounds Coffee House. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mark's, 431 Richmond NE. Arthur's cremains will be placed in the Columbarium at St. Mark's.

Hall-Warschauer -- Hall- Randy Luke Hall-Warschauer, age 29, and a life long resident of New Mexico died Saturday July 6, 2002 at 6:10 a.m. in Lovelace Hospital following a battle with brain cancer. Randy is survived by his parents, Ralph Morris and Easter Mae Warschauer of NM, his grandparents, Carley Stump of NM, and Martha Hall of IN; four sisters, Patrica Sanchez of IN, Jill Warschauer of NM, Denise Laughery of CA, and Susan Pisano of NY; two brothers, Roger Hall and his wife, Sue, and Rodney Hall and his wife, Carla all of NM. Randy was preceded in death by one brother Carl in 1994. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen. He also served in the US Navy and the Naval Reserve, and had been employed by the US Postal Service. Viewing and visitation will be held Monday July 8, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne with Brother Fred Gillard officiating. Handy -- Elizabeth W. Handy, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, passed on suddenly and without suffering on Tuesday, July 2, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Handy; daughter, Nancy Mattson; grandsons, Robert Mattson, Thomas Mattson and John Mattson; son, John Bart Wilburn; and grandchildren, Abigail Wilburn, Carolyn Salberg and Scott Wilburn. Elizabeth lived a vibrant life of style and purposeful achievement. She was loved by her family and many friends, and instilled in them the joy of purposeful pursuit and the distinction between good and excellent. Elizabeth graduated from Memphis State University in History and French literature, and taught for many years until her retirement from Albuquerque Public Schools. She is remembered well by many former students and colleagues. Elizabeth was active in Daughters of the Nile, auxiliary to the Masonic Shrine, the P.E.O., and the American Association of University Women. She and husband Robert traveled extensively and were exploring the Tennessee River on July 2, 2002. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3715 Silver SE, with Pastor Tom Beach officiating. Kazanecki -- Marie J. Kazanecki, 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Kazanecki. Mrs. Kazanecki was a teacher for many years in Illinois and New Mexico. She served as Dean of Girls in Illinois and was a teacher and administrator at a business college in Albuquerque. Mrs. Kazanecki was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd. Lauffenburger -- Sarah Elizabeth Lauffenburger, 40, of Miami Beach, FL died Monday, July 1, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her brother, Arthur, 1999; and is survived by her parents, Arthur and Patricia Lauffenburger of Albuquerque; sister, Winnie Comyford and her husband, Glen; nephew, Justin Comyford; niece, Brandy Crowder and her husband, Nathan. Sarah resided in Miami Beach, where she was a member of the Miami Beach Beautification Committee. She was a respected business owner of Eclectus inc., which oversaw the renovation of historically renowned hotels in Miami Beach. Her passions included music, and rare eclectic Collectibles Her warmth and loving nature will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A gathering will be held at the family home on July 14, 2002 at 1:00 p.m.

Mims -- Elizabeth Mims, 42, a resident of Albuquerque for three years, died Sunday, June 30, 2002. She is survived by her parents, Roy and Eileen Torcaso of Wheaton, MD; sister, Linda Berstein and husband, Mark of Philadelphia, PA; and brother, Bill Torcaso and fiance, Kate Menard of Boston, MA. Mrs. Mims was the treasurer of the Green Party of New Mexico. She also served as the field coordinator for NADER 2000 New Mexico. Elizabeth attended services at the Albuquerque Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Cremation has taken place. She will be memorialized at the 11:00 a.m. service this Sunday, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, held at the La Posada Hotel, 2nd and Central. Nellos -- Nicholas Constantine Nellos, 39, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, was taken from us suddenly on Wednesday, July 3, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Michelle; son, Tino Nellos; daughters, Alex and Isabela Nellos; father, Connie Nellos, mothers, Bonnie Buntjer and Jan Nellos; father and mother-in-law, Irving and Lili Bennett of Panama; grandparents, Donna Foor, Jim and Betty Kelley of Baird, TX; brothers, John Nellos of Albuquerque and Jeff Spencer of Baird, TX; sisters, Joanna Nellos and Jennifer Buntjer; and numerous aunts, cousins, and friends. Nick was a mechanical engineer and owned Thomsen Nellos Engineering. He was past president of New Mexico Chapter of ASHRAE. Nick was an extraordinary loving and giving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson and friend who will be remembered fondly by all. A private Greek Orthodox Service was celebrated by Father Mario Giannopoulos Saturday morning. Mass was celebrated Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at Aquinas Newman Center, with Father Robert Keller, Celebrant. Pallbearers were John Nellos, Jeff Spencer, Kurt Thunberg, Roger Bennett, Eric Alwin and Mark Pedrotti. Honorary pallbearers were Sam Haworth, Steve Starr and David Robertson. Pacheco -- Alfonzo"Al" Pacheco, 58, a resident of Albuquerque since 1981, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carmen Pacheco of the family home; sons, Ernest Pacheco of Dallas, TX and David Pacheco and wife, Beverly of Albuquerque; daughter, Susannah Wolverton and fiancé, James Hoefert of Albuquerque; two grandchildren; sisters, Viola Rose and husband, John of Raton, NM, Marie Pacheco of Albuquerque, Ernestine Montoya and husband, Ignacio of Taos, NM and Linda Esquibel and husband, Belarmino of Santa Fe, NM; and numerous friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Clodovea Pacheco; two infant brothers; and one sister. Mr. Pacheco was a retired Master Sgt. with the U.S.A.F. He received his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Albuquerque. Padilla -- Delfino G. Padilla, age 79, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, died on Friday, July 5, 2002, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 10, 1923 in Madrid, NM. Mr. Padilla was preceded in death by his wife, Nicolasita; two sisters; and a brother. He is survived by his son, Joe Padilla and his wife, Kathi; daughter, Eloisa Campos; son, Robert Padilla and companion and close friend of the family, Susan Stewart of Albuquerque; daughter, Doris Bencomo and her husband, Efren; daughter, Delores Vannoy; son, Tony Padilla; sisters, Cora Gonzales and her husband, Alfonso, Margaret Grill-Carter and her husband, Ken of Rio Rancho; brother, Frank Padilla and his wife, Joann of Albuquerque; seven granddaughters; four grandsons; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Padilla served with the US Army during WWII. He worked as a route driver for Coors Distributing. Rantanen -- Leo Edward Rantanen, beloved husband, father, son, and brother passed away suddenly on July 4, 2002 due to an unfortunate accident participating in a sport he loved. He was 39 years old and leaves behind a loving wife of 9 1/2 years, Laurie Rantanen; four children, Tanya, age 16, Nathan, age 16, Travis, age 14, and Jourdan, age 8; his mother-in-law, Jacquelyn; his mother, Yukie; his father, Donald; a sister, Tina; and a brother, Lloyd and wife, Shari and two sons, Kyle and Cody. Richardson -- J. W."Bill" Richardson, 77, died Sunday, June 30, 2002. Bill was born in Memphis, TN on September 29, 1924. He graduated from high school in Little Rock, AR and served in WWII in the Navy as a tail gunner on PBY. Bill attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX and moved to Albuquerque in 1963. He was a member of the Ducks Unlimited Albuquerque Chapter and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Bill served as an Election Judge in Albuquerque for many years and was a longtime local businessman. Bill is survived by his step-daughter, Melanie Palmer and husband, George Murphy of Austin, TX; son, James Francis and wife, Sherri, of Dallas, TX; and several grandchildren. Services will be held Monday, July 8, 2002, at 4:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. N.E, with Pastor Sebastian Frappier officiating. Romero -- Mr. Augustine R. Romero, age 66, died July 4, 2002. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and a member of the American Legion Post 13. He is survived by two sons, Bobby Romero and Augustine Romero; two daughters, Yvonne Romero and Barbara Romero; a brother, Jose Romero and sister, Leo Silva. Funeral services will be held Tuesday from the Sacred Heart Church where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at a later time. Sale -- Janet L. Sale, 44, a resident of Albuquerque since 1986, died on Friday, July 5, 2002 after a long and brave battle with cancer. Janet is survived by her loving husband, William M. Resnik; mother, Constance Bonneau Sale of Sacramento, CA; sister, Karen L. Sale and husband, Mark David, of Ipswich, MA; aunt, Leona Dickey and husband, Don; uncle, Richard Bonneau and wife, Michaela; niece, Charlotte David; mother in law, Dolores Frazier, of Albuquerque; father in law, William Resnik, Sr., of Salem, OR; brothers in law, Richard Resnik and wife, Glenna of Flower Mound, TX and Marshall Resnik and wife, Jackie, of Atlanta, GA. Sharp -- Nesby W. Sharp, long time Albuquerque resident, died in Memphis, TN, June 10, 2002 at the age of 95. He is survived by a daughter, Ellen Stalcup, of Memphis, by a son, Wayne Sharp, of Albuquerque, and by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death in 2000 by his wife of 65 years, Eula Mae Sharp, and by a grandson, Gary Stalcup. Mr. Sharp retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in 1961 after 33 years of service. He served as an elder in the Church of Christ for almost fifty years. The family requests that donations be made to the Ponderosa Christian Camp, 5101 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Mr. Sharp was one of the founders of this youth camp.

Trujillo -- Rupertita (Pita) Trujillo, 86, a lifetime resident of New Mexico, and a longtime resident of the Albuquerque and Bernalillo area, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2002. Pita was born November 30, 1915 the daughter of Reyes and Mary Sanchez Olivas in Mosquero, New Mexico. She had worked in the Harding County Treasurers Office before becoming a Librarian in the Albuquerque Public Schools and retiring after 20 years. Pita was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Pita was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Trujillo in May of 1991; and three brothers, Frank, Felix, and Reyes Olivas, Jr. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Eloy Olivas and wife, Nancy of Cranbrook, B. C., Canada, Amanda Salazar and husband, Vidal of Bernalillo, NM, Gilbert Olivas of Bernalillo, NM, and Mary Rose Baca and husband, Bill of Denver Co; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. The Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2002 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. Weil -- Monica S. Weil, 72, grandmother, mother, and a talented seamstress and dear friend died peacefully on Saturday evening, June 29, 2002 at the Cottages of Albuquerque. She had been diagnosed in 1996 with atypical Alzheimer's Disease. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Otmar Ritter; and then later by her second husband, Edwin H. Weil, Jr. She is survived by her son, Bert Weil; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jeff Stuyvesant; her grandchildren, Jeremiah Weil, Brandy Leyba, and Rachel, Joshua, Lucas and Zachary Stuyvesant; and her great-grandchildren, Michael and Julian Leyba. Whitaker -- William B."Benny" Whitaker, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away at home on July 5, 2002. Benny was born on January 5, 1915 to George W. and Esther Cozart Whitaker in Battleboro, N.C. He was a long time resident of New York prior to coming to Rio Rancho in 1976. Benny was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during WWII and earned several medals including the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Medal of Good Conduct and the WWII Victory Medal. He retired from the Army Reserve after over 30 years of faithful service in 1974 as Sergeant First Class. He went on to retire from the New York Sanitation Department. He was very fond of and enjoyed working on automobiles and was an excellent mechanic. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 118. Benny was a very devoted husband and father and will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary of Rio Rancho; his daughter, Patty and husband, John of Los Lunas; sisters, Bessie, Frances, Edith, Ethel and Marie; brother, Alvin; many nieces, nephews and a host of very special friends. Graveside services for Benny will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors being provided. Yocum -- Virgina Yocum, age 76, and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque died July 3, 2002.
