AMSDEN, LOIS H. Died as she lived, with quiet dignity and grace on February 5, 2015 at the age of 89. Lois was born on March 14, 1925 in the small Scandinavian community of New Effington, SD. After high school, she "escaped" South Dakota and journeyed to Washington D.C. to support the WWII effort. The war offered her a chance to learn skills in the earliest computers which led to a long career at Sandia National Labs. She retired in 1988. A product of the "Greatest Generation", Lois had an incredible work ethic which was highlighted in the Sandia Lab News as having never taken a sick day in 32 years of service. Lois loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, politics, Lobo basketball, and her many canine companions, but was especially proud of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were the light of her life. Lois will be missed and remembered for being a wonderful mother and grandmother, her kindness, courage, inner strength and love of family. She had an engaging wit that she retained even through her long struggle with dementia. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William G. Payne, and Edgar A. Amsden; her parents, Orlie and Velma Holland; sister, Doris Knight; and brother, Orlie Holland, Jr. She is survived by her son, Rear Admiral USN (Ret.) William H. She had three great-grandchildren, Ava and Abigail Payne and Archer Dolecek. She is also survived by her sisters, Mae Lovelace and Joan Jacoby of Albuquerque, and Janis Banchero (Don) of California; and many nieces and nephews. Lois was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church. At her request, a private graveside memorial service is planned by the family, but you can join Lois in spirit by taking a long leisurely gaze at one of our beautiful sunsets and listening to the lyrics of her favorite song "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. A special thanks to Dr. Tamara Goodman, and the many loving caregivers, nurses, and staff at Northridge Care Center for helping her on her journey home. BLEAKLY, DAVID On February 3, 2015, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, David Lewis Bleakly, 64, passed away due to complications of pancreatic cancer. He was born on August 17, 1950, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Richard Lewis and Bernice (Geerlings) Bleakly. He is survived by his wife, Denise (Egolf) Bleakly; son, Evan Walter Bleakly; his mother, of Albuquerque; and his brother Jeffrey William Bleakly, of Farmington, NM. David began his work career as a laboratory technologist at age 16 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and continued in this field in Farmington, New Mexico, and Albuquerque (primarily the County Hospital then known as Bernalillo County Medical Center and St. Joseph's hospital). While working in the hospitals in 1973 he completed a Bachelor of University Studies degree at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. In 1978, he began building houses, eventually specializing in custom adobe homes while under the employ of other contractors. During the latter few years of this period he had a residential construction license (Raven Design and Construction) and operated with limited success. On June 30, 1985, David and Denise were married in Albuquerque; their only child Evan was born on July 20, 1994. In 1989 he began the third and final phase of his professional career by working in the Biology Department at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. The goal was to get a Master's degree in biology. He entered graduate school in 1990 and was a teaching assistant teaching labs in botany and the flora of New Mexico. During the summers of 1991-1993, he helped complete a biological inventory of the new El Malpais National Monument, south of Grants, New Mexico. Using the plants collected during the inventory he finished in 1994 a thesis called Flora and Vegetation of El Malpais National Monument Area, New Mexico. In 1993, he closed his construction business and started Bleakly Botanical and Biological LLC, a one-man consulting company. Consulting jobs chiefly entailed doing surveys for rare plants before certain construction projects could commence. Eventually, his areas of expertise expanded beyond plant identification to include wetland delineations and a range of other biological specialties. He worked mostly within New Mexico but also had jobs in other states. During the consulting years he collected thousands of plants which are intended to be donated to various herbaria in the state. In the final few years, in addition to his business, he was employed by Tetra Tech, a large international environmental consulting firm. David had widely ranging interests. He had a natural talent in art which unfortunately he pursued only intermittently and very modest ability in music; nevertheless he particularly enjoyed playing the piano for his own amusement. Photography was lifelong passion; in college learned to process and print black and white film and over the years took more than 800 rolls of Kodachrome. Generally on a modest scale he collected many things including books (1000s), minerals, fossils, natural history objects, human artifacts, exotic woods, post cards, old maps and prints. He and his family enjoyed traveling especially in the western United States. Other activities he took delight in were reading and cooking. He was an active member of the First Unitarian Church. A memorial service will be held there on February 22, 2015. At 4 pm. The Church is located at 3701 Carlisle Boulevard Northeast, Albuquerque, near the corner of Carlisle and Comanche. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Roadrunner Food Bank or the church food pantry. His remains are interred at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery, Albuquerque.

DICKENS, WILLIAM CASEY William "Casey" Dickens passed away on February 10, 2015 in Albuquerque at the age of 60. He was the son of Ellen Armstrong Dickens and Carl E. "Chub" Dickens and grew up in the family home on Rio Grande Boulevard in the North Valley of Albuquerque. Casey adored meeting new people and quickly made friends; he loved hearing a good story and telling stories was his occupation. Casey loved trains, road trips on the back roads of New Mexico, across the nation and beyond. He loved good old fashioned Rock & Roll, and his detailed knowledge and memories of his favorite bands and concerts continue to amaze us all. Casey loved drawing and painting designs and odd-looking characters like "King Loser" on everything from pieces of scrap wood and wire cutters to clothes pins, rocks, popsicles sticks and even shoes. He loved watching movies and television documentaries of all kinds and sharing his reviews. He always rooted for the underdog, the disadvantaged and spent time with the "New Mexico Construction Brigade to Nicaragua" helping to build a school in Ocatal. Casey had the biggest heart, he was frank and honest and most importantly he could relate to anyone. He loved jokes, good laughs and hosting legendary north valley parties. To those who knew him, Casey was the best of friends; to his family he was a dear brother and a loving uncle. He will be missed in many ways that are impossible to express. Casey's life was an adventure and we, his family and friends, know his adventure continues as he joins those who have gone before him. Casey was preceded in his passing by his parents, Ellen and Chub and his niece Gretchen Dickens. Casey is survived by his sister Lisa and husband Stephen Maurer; brother Buzz and wife Ellie Dickens; brother John and partner Cathi Lowder; and his beloved niece Liz Dickens and nephew Antal Maurer. A memorial and celebration of Casey's life will be held at Tractor Brewing Company Wells Park, 1800 Fourth Street NW in Albuquerque, on Saturday, February 21, at 11am. Marie graduated from the University of Oklahoma where she majored in microbiology and education. She met the love of her life for more than 60 years, Tony Hillerman, at a Newman Center dance and became a dedicated football and basketball fan (Go Sooners and Lobos!). Marie and Tony married on Aug. 16, 1948 and lived in several small towns in Texas and Oklahoma where she worked as a junior high teacher. She also worked as a freelance meteorologist and substitute teacher and enjoyed life as a bridge player, passionate gardener and bird watcher. The Hillerman family moved to Albuquerque in 1963 when Tony went to work for the University of New Mexico. In Albuquerque, the adoption of Daniel made the family complete. Marie continued her life-long devotion to her Catholic faith, becoming an active member of Our Lady of the Annunciation parish. When the children left home, Marie travelled with Tony on book tours visiting France, Italy and Scandinavia. She loved her work as a volunteer with the Marianites bringing Holy Communion to the sick and elderly. She served for many years on the board of the Catholic Foundation helping people of all faiths. Among her many other interests were helping organizations which worked to improve education and living conditions on the Navajo Reservation, programs for battered families and to help those released from prison rebuild their lives. MONTOYA, ANDREA CARRILLO Andrea Carrillo Montoya passed away peacefully with grace in Albuquerque early Friday morning, February 13th surrounded by loved ones. A long journey back to her beginning. Born in 1923 the 7th of 9 surviving children in Agua Fria, NM to Filberto and Maria Carrillo, the essential tasks of survival were to raise children, care for animals, tend crops and provide spiritual guidance. Going to school was regarded as a treasured opportunity, not an obligation. It is these circumstances and values that would shape her and those she touched. By the time she graduated from Santa Fe High school in 1941, she had been offered a 4 year 4H scholarship to New Mexico State University. Her Dad forbade her to accept , as college was no place for a woman. Instead, she found employment as an office assistant in the Department of Agriculture. She then met a military man and future husband, Ralph Tomas Montoya. Several years later she was a wife and mother of two sons. Determined to provide the best possible future for her family, she found a way to navigate and adapt to new conveniences, technologies and social diversity, while maintaining the beliefs and values handed down from her parents. Over decades, accommodations were made, bending never breaking to stresses and opportunities of a modern life. Compromise was rarely part of her solution, raising two more children. Gaining confidence and a new realization of choices as an independent woman, she was a entrepreneur, rancher and realtor. She spent several decades compiling her geneology dating back to the 1500's, yet her most peaceful times were spent on her ranch, tending to the cattle, fixing the houses, mending fences, and talking about making improvements until her death at the age of 92. She was a Founding Member of the Associates of the Blessed Sacrament, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, New Mexico Geneology Society and a long-time active member of Queen of Heaven and St. Charles Borromeo Parish. Regardless of her environment, she was the happiest when she was connected to the earth, her family, and her Creator. Her grandchildren gave her tremendous joy and treasured memories. She will be deeply missed by those she touched and mentored. Her charm, wit, independence, drive, graciousness and loving nature became a moniker of her elderly years which will leave a legacy through family, friends and caregivers. She is survived by her children, Ralph Gilbert Montoya, Michael Anthony Montoya and spouse, Chris Montoya, Joseph Ronald Montoya, Maria Dolores Preciado and spouse, Lupe Preciado; grandchildren Rudolfo Montoya and spouse Charity Montoya, Glynis Montoya, Gabriella Preciado, Joaquin Preciado; sister, Anita Salazar; and many, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Marcia Byers, Romalda Neeb, Amelia Carrillo, Rudy Carrillo, Manuel Carrillo, Antonia Lerma, Filiberto Carrillo, and Lucinda Garcia. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015 beginning at 5:00 PM with the Rosary following at 6:00 PM. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Avenue SE. After her graduation from Robertson High School, she went to nursing school in Dallas, TX, graduating from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. She pursued her chosen field of operating room nursing in Phoenix, AZ and Albuquerque, NM. In January 1976, she suffered a brain stem injury while receiving a chiropractic manipulation which resulted in quadriplegia. She continued her education, graduating in 1995 from Children's Institute of Literature of West Redding, CT. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Los Chavez, in Belen, NM. The quadriplegia only affected her ability to move but over the years she regained full use of her right arm and hand and right foot and partial use of her right leg. RANDALL, SISTER MARY PAVEL MIRIAM Sister Miriam Randall, longtime member of the community of the Pecos Benedictine Monastery, died February 7 in Framingham, MA where she lived the final three years of her life as a member of the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She used the name Mary Pavel in that setting. She was born in Lowell, MA on July 18, 1927, the beloved daughter of of the late George T. and Margaret (Linehan) Randall. She was predeceased by her brothers Reverend Edward Randall, OMI, Brother George Randall, CFX, David Randall, and Reverend Timothy Randall, MS. She is survived by her sisters Margaret Madden, Sister Frances Randall, SND, and brother, William Randall, along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sr. Miriam entered the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston at age 18 and became a teacher and principal in Catholic schools in the Boston area. In 1975 she came to a 30-Day House of Prayer retreat at the Pecos Monastery where she fell in love with the beauty of New Mexico and with the unique nature of the community of men and women living together at the Monastery. She felt called to stay and become a member of the community. She took the name of Miriam, after the sister of Moses, and made her mark as a spiritual director, speaker and teacher, storyteller, gifted dream worker, friend and spiritual mother to countless people whose paths crossed hers. She will be remembered for her sparkling eyes, humor, great compassion, her love of scripture and deep, abiding love of God. She was a friend and mentor to the residents of the village of Pecos and was often seen hiking or riding her bike up the steep roads in the Pecos Canyon. She loved the river and the mountains. When she was not teaching or giving spiritual direction she could be found in the Monastery gift shop or in the laundry where she assumed responsibility for laundering the linens from the retreat guest rooms. Sr. Miriam valued dearly the many soul friends she made over the years, her high country hiking companions, the 'wild women' members of her dream group, and her rescue cat, Minou. In 2011, Sr. Miriam returned to the land of her roots to rejoin her Sisters there, living in their excellent transitional care center, Bethany. While missing active ministry and her beloved soul-land along the Pecos River, she kept busy visiting those who were less ambulatory, and in her humble way, working in the laundry folding towels, sheets, and clothes of the residents. She also maintained correspondence with many who continued to be touched by her wisdom and grace. Sister Mary Pavel Miriam Randall was laid to rest in St. Patrick Cemetery, Natick, on Thursday, February 12, following Visitation, a Prayer Service, Funeral Mass and Prayers of Final Commendation.

ROSENBERG, MARSHALL B. DR. Dr. Marshall B. Rosenberg, age 80, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, at his home in Albuquerque on February 7th, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Canton, Ohio on October 6th, 1934, Marshall was raised in Detroit and completed his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan. He received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin in 1961, where he met his friend and mentor, psychologist Carl Rogers. He was awarded Diplomate status from the American Board of Examiners in Professional Psychology in 1966. Marshall launched his professional career in St. Louis where he established a successful clinical practice. Marshall's desire to put people over profits, as well as his curiosity and desire to learn more about the causes of violence that had defined his early experiences living in inner city Detroit, soon inspired him to leave private practice. He took a job as a cab driver and used this time to explore new and meaningful ways he might apply his professional training to reduce various forms of violence and disseminate peacemaking skills. Marshall's exploration quickly evolved into Nonviolent Communication (NVC), a process that facilitates stronger interpersonal communication and cultivates mutual recognition of deeper emotional needs, resulting in greater compassion and peaceful resolution between conflicted parties. Marshall worked closely with civil rights activists in the 1960's, mediating between rioting students and college administrators and working to peacefully desegregate public schools in long-segregated regions. Marshall's work in this capacity motivated him to found of the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) for which he served as the Director of Educational Services. A dedicated teacher, peace-maker and visionary leader, Marshall led NVC workshops and international intensive trainings for thousands of people in over 60 countries across the world. Marshall was passionate about his work and traveled to war-torn areas and economically disadvantaged countries, offering NVC training to promote reconciliation and peaceful resolution of differences. He worked tirelessly with such groups as educators, managers, mental health and health care providers, lawyers, military officers, prisoners, police and prison officials, clergy, government officials, and individual families. Marshall authored several books and received numerous awards throughout his career. Marshall is survived by his beloved wife, Valentina Rosenberg, (a.k.a Kidini); children Rick Rosenberg, Dr. Marla Nosan; Dr. Brett Rosenberg, step-daughter Naila de Cruz-Dixon, granddaughter, Chloe Nosan; daughters-in-law, Olivia Ramos and Sonia Rosenberg; son-in-law, David Nosan MD; brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Elma Rosenberg; colleagues and students from around the world; and his sweet four-legged companion Tiger-Lilly (named, by Marshall, in honor of the Detroit Tigers). We would like to extend our gratitude to his longtime friend and Primary Care physician Dr. Patrick Rivera; his Presbyterian Hospice physician, Dr. Karen Adams; his Presbyterian Hospice Nurse, Collette Mahea Dodd; and his dedicated caregivers, Fawziya, Alma and Desmine. In our great mourning, and with deep reverence and soaring gratitude for the spirit he released in us, we hope to carry our beloved Marshall's light forward. We find comfort in his profound sense of humor and grace, which continues to soothe our hearts with much laughter and love. We will miss you Dear One! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Presbyterian Hospice Homecare (8300 Constitution Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM 87110) or a charity of one's choice. An announcement regarding a memorial service to celebrate Marshall's life will follow. "Only from the Heart can you touch the Sky" -Rumi

SIEGLITZ, ROBERT AVERY SR. A Salute to Robert Avery Sieglitz, Sr. March 9, 1915 February 12, 2015 "I have more fun and have done more things than anyone I know. I really enjoy life!" Barely three years after New Mexico became a state, Robert Avery Sieglitz was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Frank Peter Sieglitz, Jr . and Maude Avery Carse Sieglitz. He was raised in a family of four other siblings: stepbrother Ellis H. Sieglitz, brother Frank C. Sieglitz, sister Maude C. Sieglitz Bush, and brother Joseph E. Sieglitz. Bob spent most of his life in Albuquerque, where he attended Lincoln Junior High School, Albuquerque High School (graduating in 1934) and University of New Mexico. "I married my nurse! " Bob recalled meeting Emma Jane Guthmann in 1938 while having his appendix out. Jane and Bob married January 28, 1940. Together, they had three children: Janie Sieglitz Kobes of Conroe, Texas; Robert A. Sieglitz, Jr. of Sacramento, CA and Peggy Sieglitz Pultorak of Granbury, Texas; six grandchildren: Glenn R. Kobes, Jeffrey W. Kobes, Jennifer L. Pultorak Shafer, Edward J. Pultorak Jr., Sandra Jo Sieglitz Stone, and Sutter King Sieglitz, and 12 great grandchildren. Bob's first job was delivering ice in Las Vegas, New Mexico. In his younger years, he cut logs, delivered newspapers, and worked for Montgomery Wards, ushered for the Kimo and Sunshine Theaters, and then drove an ambulance. He worked with the National Youth Administration (which helped built the first Sandia Mountain ski run at Doc Long's Picnic Ground) and helped to survey at Chimayo, Pojoaque, San Juan and Otawi Bridge for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Later, Bob worked at Higland Aircraft Engine Company, Lockheed, the Matson Navigation Corporation and at Sandia Base." In 1945 he became chief electrician and daily operator of Conchas Dam. In 1955, Bob started his insurance career. He retired from Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Company in 1980 at age 65. An innovative entrepreneur, Bob started the fiberglass plant Nu Pro Manufacturing and a water ski park. Later, he went to work in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia with Arab Establishment for Projects . That job also took him to Thailand and Hong Kong. Until he died, he collected and restored Model T Fords. He could not bear to sell his inventory and still owned five Model T's on his death. Of his long and varied work experience, Bob proudly said, "I have made and lost several fortunes, but I have always come out on top." A life-long Episcopalian, Bob Sieglitz was the first acolyte of St John's Cathedral. Later, for years, Bob and Jane and family prepared Easter morning breakfast at the church. An avid fly fisherman, Bob first fished the Jemez River in 1927. Observers envied his skill in being able to pull a fish from where others could not even get a bite. At age 72, he became a certified scuba diver and logged more than 90 dives all over the world. Ten years after Jane died in 1982, Bob met Lawauna Jayroe. She became his close companion until she died in 2009. Bob enjoyed telling the story of fishing the Jemez River at Hummingbird Music Camp a few years ago. He tripped over a log and fell. The proprietor of the property, a good friend admonished, "I don't want you coming up here, falling in the river, and dying." Bob looked at her and said, "What a way to go! Wouldn't that be great! Me with a fish on the end of my line, and then I fall and hit my head on a rock. That would be a great way to go, I think." We will miss him. There will be a Celebration of his life to be held on March 7, 2015, 2pm-5pm. Call for information to Barbara Baca (505) 410-9446. STOVALL, MARGARET VIRGINIA (NEE) LEE The common thread that bound our family from WWI, through the roaring 20's, the great depression, WWII and into the 21st century is gone. Margaret Stovall passed away on February 12, 2015 in San Antonio, TX after suffering from complications from a fall and generally deteriorating health. Margaret was born April 18, 1916 in Childress TX, the oldest of seven children born to William Andrew Lee and Grace Virginia Ballard. Her childhood years were spent in Childress and after moves to Electra, El Paso, Plainview and Lubbock the family settled in the Poly area of Ft Worth. After graduating from Polytechnic High in 1935 she began working for SH Kress & Company in downtown Ft Worth. To Margaret, downtown Ft Worth was the most exciting place in the world. In May 1940, she was hired by the Ft Worth & Denver Railroad as a hostess on the Burlington Zephyr where she served until the outbreak of WWII after which time she was moved into the ticket office. Margaret had so many interesting stories to tell about her days growing up during the depression and her service as a hostess traveling between Houston and Denver, stopping at all points between. She learned to make every penny count and lived by the motto "use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without". After marrying Claude Stovall in Weatherford, shortly after the war ended, the couple moved with their three young children to Lubbock in 1952. Claude was called into the ministry in 1955 and the family moved to New Mexico where Claude pastored eight churches and missions until 1985. Margaret made the perfect companion to her husband's ministries with her beautiful voice and always ready piano skills. She worked for many years as a secretary at the Baptist Convention of New Mexico. After living in Albuquerque for a number of years in retirement the Stovalls went back to their Texas roots and settled in Kerrville, TX. Margaret enriched the lives of everyone around her and was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend and Christian. Her life was so well-lived no words here can give credit to this splendid woman. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Donna. She is survived by one brother, James Lee of Grandview, TX and his wife. She is also survived by her daughter, June Stovall of Santa Fe, NM; son Mike Stovall of San Antonio, TX, and their spouses; son-in-law, John Spruill of Maxwell, NM; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren. Burial will be at a future date, next to her husband, Claude, in Knox City, TX.
