BALDWIN, CAROLYN OCTAVIA It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn last Sunday, March 3, 2013. She went peacefully, knowing that she packed a full and wonderful life in her 90 years on this earth. She was born in Springfield, Ohio to Charles and Inez McDargh on August 9, 1922. Carolyn was the oldest of eleven kids, having five brothers and five sisters. She often remarked that after helping her mother take care of so many children she didn't much care about being around kids anymore. Fortunately, for her own three offspring, she briefly overcame those thoughts. Her brothers and sisters were Doris (dec.), Janis (dec.), Bill (dec.), Raymond (dec.), Jim (dec.), Bud (dec.), Larry (Kansas), Rita (Arizona), Ruth Ann (dec.), and Sharon (Nebraska). Carolyn joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1944 and was assigned to a recruiting unit along with other lovely young ladies. Unfortunately for the Army, she met and fell in love with a handsome and dashing Army Air Corps Captain Irl Edgar Baldwin, Jr., a B-17 bomber pilot that had returned from the European Theater. They were married in September 1944, and she was honorably discharged in 1945 after becoming pregnant. Irl Jr. was re-assigned to a B-29 unit and headed for the Pacific Theater. Before leaving, he took Carolyn to stay with his parents at their fruit farm in the Yakima Valley, Washington. He told her if their child was a boy, under no circumstances to name him after him and his father. Irl Edgar Baldwin, III was born in August, 1945. Concurrently, Irl Jr. landed on Tinian Island in the Pacific and saw two secluded heavily guarded B-29s off in the distance and wondered what the fuss was about. He later learned that the planes were the Enola Gay and Boxcar that had dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Irl returned from the Pacific Theater, decided to stay in the service, picked up Carolyn and Irl, III (now known as Bucky), and moved to his new assignment in Denver, Colorado. Linda Lee Baldwin was born in 1948. The young Baldwin family moved to Pullman, Washington where Irl finished his college education and earned a B.S. in Physics from Washington State University. In 1950, Irl and Carolyn decided to formally change their son's name to Lance George Baldwin. During their time in Washington, Irl taught Carolyn how to play bridge. This turned out to be their avocation for the next 50 years. The next move was a three year assignment to the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Then came a year in Prattville, Alabama, where Irl attended the Air Force Command and Staff Course in Montgomery. In 1955 the Baldwins moved to Albuquerque for their first of two tours, and fell in love with the city. They bought a house in Hoffmantown and they never sold it because they both always knew they would return to it. While in Albuquerque, Carolyn became a Life Master (a rating of the American Contract Bridge League) much to the chagrin of Irl that she beat him to that goal. In 1959, Shannon Kay Baldwin was born and the family was transferred to Alexandria, Virginia where Irl worked at the Air Force Technical Applications Center. Livermore, California was the next destination for the Baldwins where they stayed for three years from 1963 to 1965. Albuquerque was the final assignment from 1965 to 1968 when Carolyn and Irl retired from the military. He continued for another 15 years in the Civil Service while they played a lot of bridge and Irl finally became a Life Master Bridge player himself. Every place she lived, Carolyn would do volunteer work for the Red Cross and at military hospitals. She raised her kids and was proud of them. Irl passed away in 2002 and she was never quite the same as she was when she had her soul mate. They are now reunited and will forever be together. Carolyn and Irl are just now beginning their eternal journey together at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Carolyn's children Lance and wife Ruth, Linda and husband Cliff Hays, and Shannon all reside in Albuquerque. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jarred Baldwin and wife Crystal (Albuquerque), Jesse Baldwin and wife Brooke (Albuquerque), Kelly Hays (Maryland), and Tony Hays (Australia). There is one great-granddaughter, Emma Shea Baldwin (Jesse and Brooke's daughter). Carolyn's family wishes to thank Advantage Home Health Care and Hospice for several years of home care assistance and the last five months of hospice team support. Thanks also go to FRENCH Mortuary on Wyoming for their very professional and caring arrangements. CORMIER, BERNADETTE NORMA Bernadette Cormier of Albuquerque, New Mexico, age 85, passed away early Friday morning, March 1, 2013. Bernadette (Bernie) was born in Toledo, Ohio to Fred and Rozella Harget on August 20, 1927. She was raised in Toledo and attended DeVilbiss High School, where she graduated as class valedictorian in 1945. With two of her best friends, she ventured to Colorado Springs and worked as a legal secretary until 1955, when she met and married her husband of 57 years, Robert (Bob) Cormier, a U.S. Army Infantry Officer. For the next nineteen years, Bob and Bernie raised four sons and three daughters as they traveled from post to post. In 1974, Bernie and Bob retired from Army life and settled the family in Albuquerque, where they have lived ever since. Bernie shared Bob's love for the Army and thrived as an "army wife," proving to be the anchor for the family and lead in raising their seven children, especially during Bob's two tours of duty in Vietnam. She was active in her children's activities and enjoyed arts and crafts, especially sewing, quilting, and toll painting. Once her children had grown and left home, she remained active as a volunteer at Anna Kaseman Hospital and in helping raise her grandchildren. Bob and Bernie were both lifelong, devout Catholics, active at Annunciation Parish and the Catholic community's Marriage Enrichment Program. Bernie has now joined Bob, who preceded her in death last summer, her parents, all five of her brothers and sisters, and one infant child. She is survived and beloved by her seven children; three daughters-in-law; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; and many friends of the family. Proverbs 31:26-31 - She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her saying "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Rosary will be recited for Bernie on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 7:00 pm at French-Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. DENTON, EDWARD H. (TED) Age 94, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013. He was born in London, England on November 1, 1918, the third of four children of Prof. and Mrs. Francis M. Denton. In 1925, the family crossed the Atlantic to settle in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Prof. Denton had been invited to organize the Electrical Engineering Department at the State's University. In Albuquerque, Ted went to elementary and high school, and, after two years of college at UNM, transferred to the Southern Methodist University, in Dallas, Texas, where he got his BA degree with the idea of attending the University's seminary. Interrupted by the second world war and two years in the US Navy, he decided, instead, to marry his college-days sweetheart, Mary Lou Williams. The two settled, at first in Chicago, where Ted worked as a technologist at the University of Chicago's Research Institutes, and she as a teacher of set design at the Art Institute's Goodman Theater. Fourteen years later, they moved to Boulder, Colorado, with their five-year-old son, where Ted oversaw the development of a rocket-borne, cryogenic air sampler for the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Upon completion of that project, and following the untimely death of their son, Ted and Mary Lour moved to Denver where Ted helped develop specialized instruments for the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver and Reston (Virginia), until 1982, when he retired. At that time Ted and Mary Lou returned to New Mexico, where Mary Lour pursued her special talent as a portrait and landscape painter, and Ted turned his attention to developing a simple freeze-drying apparatus for preserving biological specimens, and to helping teachers in the public school systems discover the insights to be found in the world's great literature. He was preceded in death by his wife, May Lou (Williams) Denton; his brother, Francis C. Denton; and a sister, Mrs. Lucia Salat, all of Albuquerque; and a sister, Mrs. Clyde Kamatchis, of Levittown, Long Island, New York. In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Edward's honor to Ambercare Hospice, 2129 Osuna Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. SANTISTEVAN, ARMANDO J. died on March 4, 2013. He closed his eyes in sleep, and awoke to see the glorious face of God. Born in 1922, he was a member of what has rightly been called "America's Greatest Generation": those kids who came of age during the deprivation of the Great Depression, fought and helped win a world war, and rebuilt America into the great country it is today. He was born in Taos, New Mexico - in the shadow of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains - to Cruz and Frances Santistevan, and spent his youth ranching in his beloved mountains of northern New Mexico. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a member of the American GI Forum, the Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic Cursillo Movement, but his most important role was Dad and Grandpa. Dad was born with an appetite for travel. Following the war, he saw the sky and followed the sun; moving with his family around the American west. In addition to travel, he loved animals, being outdoors, fishing and hunting, the big sky, motorcycles, and Star Trek. Most of all, he loved being in what he lovingly called "the high country." Over the course of his life, he held a number of jobs. He and mom devoted their lives to caring for their extended families, but the greater part of his career was spent with the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S Forest Service. Both of which allowed him to spend so much time in the outdoors that he cherished. As a surveyor, he walked miles of New Mexico's llanos, canyons, and mountains - and throughout the state, there are way points and survey markers named after his friends and children. He had an engaging smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be profoundly missed by all of us who loved him so very much. He was preceded in death by brothers Robert Mossman, Julian Duran, and Deacon Patrick Santistevan; by his dearly-loved wife of fifty years, Petrita Romero Santistevan; son Michael; and daughter Fabiola. He is survived by two sisters, Alice Sosa and Mabel Rich, and by six children, 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to countless friends and loved ones, he is also survived by his wife Irene - over whom he cared so well - and by his constant canine companion of 18 years, Toby. "Look to the heavens and count the stars so shall your posterity be." Gen. 15-5. Services will be conducted at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, located at 12500 Carmel Avenue NE. A rosary will be recited on Monday, March 11 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 12 at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception at the church parish center. Internment and military honors will be conducted at a private ceremony. Farewell, dear voyageur - the river winds and turns; The cadence of your song wafts near to me, And now you know the thing that all may learn: There is no death - there's immortality

Jimmy was preceded in death by Nadine Stump (the mother of his first born children); a son Perry Stump; and grandson James Monroe Stump Jr. Jimmy was one of ten children, his parents and seven siblings went on before him to be with the Lord. This was an incredible loving family of brothers and sisters, all their lives they shared a closeness rarely seen today. How they emulate such compassion and concern for one another is truly an inspiration; especially Esther, who checked on parents and siblings daily; always there to take care of their needs and to keep each informed of how the other is doing. After serving 13 years as a police officer, Jimmy left APD to pursue his craft as a very talented carpenter and mechanic. Unfortunately, diabetes took away his ability to do much physically. Jimmy will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place by Riverside Funeral Home.

TETTERINGTON, LYNN slipped quietly away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. After a bout with breast cancer that had recently metastasized. She died peacefully in her sleep after only a week at Lovelace Health Center. Lynn will be reunited with her parents, Audrey and Dale Tetterington who preceded her in death. Audrey and Dale were married in 1943 at the Kirtland Air Force Base Chapel. They remained in Albuquerque after the war and started a tiny whole sale donut business. They began frying and delivering what would later be known as their famous glazed donuts in the rented back room of a little grocery store in Martinez Town. The business became Jill's Bakery and by the time the bakery was sold in 1973, it employed 208 people and produced more than 300 hundred varieties of baked goods that were delivered over a four state area. Audrey and Dale were very active in the community. Dale served for years on the Presbyterian hospital Board, and Audrey was involved in many volunteer organizations to this day. As you enter the Presbyterian Hospital main lobby you can see a photo of Audrey, as she volunteered by helping patients in the hospital. In fact, the first job Lynnie had was marking cartons of donut boxes 10 cents with a black wax pencil for Jill's Bakery. She later went on to bigger things, attending the University of Denver and studying in Paris at the Sorbonne before graduating from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1972, then with a Juris Doctor Degree from U.N.M. Law School. Her most loved job as a lawyer, was in Window Rock, Arizona where she was an attorney for the Department of Justice for The Navajo Nation. She later moved to Farmington, New Mexico where she was an attorney with the City of Farmington. She did freelance work in Phoenix, Arizona and in Albuquerque. Lynn continued until just recently a vast array of jobs, liking the challenge of doing many different things. She never felt as if her job were work, instead feeling that she was helping her employer do better business and helping the clients achieve their goals. Lynn was born in Albuquerque at St. Josephs Hospital on April 27, 1949. it is fitting that she passed on at the age of 63 from Lovelace which is actually connected to the old St. Josephs. She has come full circle. In her life, she traveled extensively with her parents and with her sister, Jill, seeing the entire United States, especially Hawaii, when her parents retired there. She made several trips to France, also visiting Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and the British Isles. She enjoyed an extensive cruise to Norway and later cruised the Greek Islands. Her last big trip was with her sister to Africa. Lynn loved to learn, she was always interested in other cultures, spoke fluent French and Spanish and never saw a PBS show she didn't just love and couldn't memorize. Her friends remember her sharp wit and dry sense of humor. She loved doing things for other people, always offering encouraging advice and giving generously of her time to those who needed her. Many, many, thanks to those close to her who took her on great excursions like Acoma, the Petroglyphs, the Super Bowl, the Christmas Lights. Thanks to friends who brought her food, special orders from Furr's or Black Augus, picked up prescriptions, and helped her clean and organize. Special thanks to her friend who attended every Doctors appointment, every chemo infusion and every decision making meeting with notebook and pen, always in hand. Friends helped her move boxes, fixed her car, gave her months of free storage, and acted silly over ice cream. She will be missed by her friends and by her sister, Jill T. Alfrey, now living in Denver. But our hearts are gladdened knowing that Lynnie is now frolicking thru heavenly meadows with her long time companion, tuxedo cat, Wooster, aka Woosie. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, Good Shepherd Animal Shelter or to your favorite charity in Lynn's name. Your are invited to spend a day, any nice, easy, convenient day as a memorial to Lynn. You may want to have lunch in Santa Fe, or take a picnic to the Jemez, or you may want to just sit in your beautiful backyard and remember. Please feel free to invite Jill, to share with you, some time celebrating Lynnies life. You can contact her in Denver. She will be coming often to Albuquerque.
