BACA -- Lee Baca, 80, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away on January 28, 2011. He was born on January 24, 1931 in Fort Bayard, NM. Lee was the 3rd of five children born to Leo and Margaret Baca. He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Salomon; sister, Suzie; and youngest brother Johnnie; one brother survives him. Lee served in the Navy and Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Katherine of Albuquerque; son, Mike and wife, Kathy of Bosque Farms; son, Rick and wife Lynn of Covington, WA; son, Tom and wife Lorraine of Albuquerque; daughter, Lisa and husband Walt Scartaccini of Irvine, CA; and son, Randy and wife Mandy of Albuquerque; as well as 11 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and loved ones. CABRERA-HERNANDEZ -- Reinaldo Cabrera-Hernandez, 43, a resident of Albuquerque, formerly of Cuba, passed away on January 23, 2011. Reinaldo is survived by his wife, Palmira Palacios; daughters, Carla Melisa Palacios, Dania Cabrerea Kong, and Leslie Cabrera; his mother, Nancy Hernandez; brother, Geraldo Cabrera, Barbaro Cabrera; his sisters, Vivian Cabrera and Barbara Cabrera. CHAVEZ -- George J. Chavez. 1934-2011. George J. Chavez, age 76, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. George enjoyed spending time with family, carpentry and raising animals and exotic birds on his place in Belen. His main love was his wife and family. George was preceded in death by his parents, Silvano and Josephine Chavez; four brothers, Pete, Benny, Clemente and Silvano Jr. and three sisters, Merlinda, Peggy and Joann. DOWMONT -- John Dowmont (Daddy/PaPa) age 86, Resident of Albuquerque for over 60 years passed away the weekend of the January 22 at his home. John served honorably for both the United State Navy and Army from 1942 to 1953. He retired from AT&T in the 1990's after 36 years of service. He volunteered his services by reading for the blind from 1991 to 2007. John is survived by his sisters, Wanda Wexler and Yadviga Dowmont-Hallsay P.h.D; eldest child, Delia Wanda Otero and husband, Patrick Joseph Otero; son, John-Michael Dowmont; grandchildren, Alexandria Francis Otero, Meliton Patirck Otero and his wife, Claire Irene Otero. John will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, with honors. Services pending.

EGGERS -- David L. Eggers, 67, went to be with the Lord January 29, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cynthia; children, Lynette Milford and husband Lance, Beverly Allison and husband Rod and David Eggers Jr. and wife Cathy; grandchildren, Dedrick, Rodney Jr., Brielle, Kendra, Kendrick, Sydney and Makenzie. David is also survived by his sister, Christine Schmidt; his brother, Daniel Eggers and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Marie Eggers; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ruby Eggers and his brother, John Eggers. Mr. Eggers served our country in the United States Navy. He received his bachelor's degree in Business Education and master's degree in Education Administration from the University of New Mexico. He was pastor of Faith Tabernacle for 25 years and served as Principal of Hope Christian School before retiring in 2003 after 25 years. David also served as District Secretary for his church denomination and served on the board of regents for Messenger College in Joplin, MO. GARCIA -- Evangelisto (Evans) R. Garcia, age 97, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2011. He was born in Dona Ana, New Mexico on June 19, 1913 and was a long-time resident of Santa Fe before he moved to Albuquerque in 1994. He is survived by his three children: daughters, Pauline Garcia and Margaret Garcia of Albuquerque; and son, Anthony Garcia and wife, Lisa of Torrance, California. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Theresa Fuentes and husband, Robert Dell Angelo, Antoinette Fuentes-Knapp and husband, David, Antonio Garcia and wife, Maria, Dolly Romero-Wilberding and husband, Jason, Matthew Fuentes, and Frances Garcia; and great-grandchildren, Anthony and Michael Antonucci, Talia Dell Angelo, Brian, Lauren and Lindsay Knapp, Ben and Luke Wilberding, Esteban Sena, and Caige and Rein Fuentes. Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his father and mother, Belzan and Juanita Garcia; his sisters, Adela Bowen and Crucita Daby; and his son, Evans. Mr. Garcia graduated from Hot Springs High School, then studied accounting at the LaSalle Extension University and attended New Mexico State University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 4, 1941 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations during WWII, participating in the Philippine Defense Campaign with the New Mexico National Guard 200th Coast Artillery and 515th Coast Artillery. These brave soldiers held off the Japanese against all odds, without enough food or supplies, and inferior weapons. Mr. Garcia, along with other New Mexico guardsmen, was captured by the Japanese Army on April 9, 1942 and forced to endure the infamous Bataan Death March. He spent 3 and a half grueling years as a Prisoner of War, held in several prison camps in the Philippines and was sent on a Hell Ship to Japan and held in Fukuoka Prison Camp No. 17 until liberation on September 12, 1945. As a result of his dedicated service to our country, Mr. Garcia received the following citations and decorations: Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, American Defense Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, Philippine Defense Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, The Victory Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon with Clasps, Seven Overseas Service Bars, The Distinguished Unit Citation with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, The Bronze Star, The Purple Heart, and more recently, the POW Medal. As the Korean Conflict escalated, Mr. Garcia enlisted with the U.S. Army on June 28 of 1949 and was discharged on October 17, 1950. After the war, Mr. Garcia settled in Santa Fe and worked with the Selective Service System. His four children were born in Santa Fe and he often took them up north to camp and fish. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing with his many friends. He retired from Selective Service in 1967. Following his retirement, he was active in the VFW Post 2951 and served in many capacities, including Commander. During his tenure, the Post grew and prospered. He was also very active in the Bataan Veterans Organizations in Santa Fe and statewide, the DAV, and volunteered hundreds of hours at the VA hospital in Albuquerque. He was actively involved with his grandchildren, traveling with them and especially teaching them to fish. He was very proud of his grandsons Antonio and Matthew as they chose to follow in his footsteps and join the military to serve their country. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, February 3, 2011, 7:00 p.m., at French - University Chapel in Albuquerque. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 4, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at St. Annes Parish, 511 Alicia Street in Santa Fe with Father Leo Ortiz, Celebrant. Private interment will follow mass at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Antonio Garcia, Matthew Fuentes, Fred Armijo, John Ojinaga, Sam Ojinaga, and Corky Ojinaga. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the New Mexico National Guard. GIPSON -- Wanda Rae (Wells) Gipson, 84, passed from this earth on January 28, 2011 after a short illness. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Bosque Farms, NM. She was born in Cheyenne, OK on December 15, 1926 to Alex J. Wells (d.1976) and to Elsie (Coon) Wells (d.1996). The family moved to NM in 1936. Wanda married C. K. (Gip) Gipson on January 30, 1943 in Estancia, NM. Two children were born, Janie (1945) and Judy (1948). She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Dee (d.2000) and Bob (d.2005), Gip (d.1996); and daughter Judy (d.2006). Judy was married to Dan Seybold. Survivors are sisters; Ida Mae (Wells) Stevenson and Juanita G. (Wells) Pierce; daughter, Janie (Gipson) Thomas and husband Jim; son-in-law, Dan Seybold; grand daughters; Lisa (Thomas) Hobbs and husband Kevan, Terri Fenley and husband Greg, Tammy (Tripp) Marksberry and husband Clint, and Elizabeth Seybold; great-grandchildren, James, Cole, and Scott and his wife Erinn Hobbs, Tyler and Katie Fenley, Tara and J. D. Marksberry, and Cheyanne Tucker; three sister-in-laws, Juanita Gipson, Eris Gipson, and Sandy Wells and a large number of friends and extended family. Wanda was a classy lady whether being a department head at Kistler-Collister, "the bedding plant lady" at Rowlands San Mateo or Wanda's Wild Flowers, a business that she and Gip owned, operated and loved. HARDER -- James Allen Harder, 1933-2011. Age 77, a resident of Belen, NM., passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2011. He married his beloved wife Joyce on May 11, 1953. They have lived in the Albuquerque area since, where Jim worked as a building contractor and custom home builder. He was an avid horseman and animal lover who bred and raced thoroughbreds for over 40 years with many successes across the state of New Mexico. Jim was a lifelong athlete, playing varsity football for five years and winning state championships in pole vaulting. He also won awards in recent years as a senior Olympian for shot-put, high jump and discus. Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Paunice Driskill, Kyle Harder and his wife Robin, Kelly Walters and her husband Gary; grandchildren, Zane Driskill and his wife Natalia, Garret Harder, Rawlin Harder, Corbin Walters, Kensington Walters, Garrison Walters; great-grandchildren, Xavier and Jayden Driskill; brothers, Norman and his wife Vicki and Bryan and his wife Shannon and very special friends Bill and Pinky Meier. HERNANDEZ -- ORLANDO A. HERNANDEZ was called home by his Creator on Sunday, January 20, 2011. Orlando was born in Madrid, New Mexico on May 14, 1935. He graduated from Madrid High School in 1954. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in Korea. Upon his return form the army he joined his family in Santa Fe. He was employed at Joe Annon Nursery and by the New Mexico Highway Department. He worked for 30 years at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter in various capacities. He later served as manager and was well respected by the by the public, local law enforcement and the Board of Directors of the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. He retired from the Shelter due to health problems, but continued his support for Shelter by making colorful doghouse donation boxes that were placed in local business. Orlando enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his hobbies of carpentry, cooking and leatherwork. He loved his family and enjoyed visits from his many nephews, nieces and their families. He was a parish member of St. John's Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolfo and Francisca Hernandez; sister, Nellie Gutierrez and husband Fred; brothers; Juan Luariano, Jose Guillermo, Adolfo Jr., Jimmie, Pedro and wife Flora, Jose Maria and wife Clara. He is survived by two sisters, Teresa Hernandez and Sadie V. Ortega and husband Juan B; sister-in-law, Josie Hernandez; and many nephews and nieces, great nephews, nieces, and great great nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2011, 6 p.m. followed by a Rosary, 7 p.m. at McGee Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 3, 2011, 9 a.m. at St. John Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. HORNER -- Ronald "Ron" H. Horner, 85, a resident of Placitas, NM died Thursday, January 27, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol; two sons, Joel Horner and wife, Sharron of Virginia Beach, VA and Marc Horner and wife, Susan of Arvada, CO; two grandchildren, Annelei Matheson and husband, Cody, and Amy Horner; special niece, Sharon Foley and husband Steve Ciotti; and many friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Letha Horner; and one sister Norma Lee Foley. He was born on May 23, 1925 in Wiley, CO and graduated from Wiley High School in 1943. Ron then went into the United States Navy where he proudly served in the Pacific Theater as a radioman, during WWII. After his discharge he went to work for Western Electric where he was a telephone equipment installer. He retired in 1980 as a manager. Ron did consulting in Atlanta, GA, and then he and Carol moved to Santiago, Chile for six years where he wrote a column in an English newspaper and also had a radio program in which he gave the news in English. They then lived in Mexico City for three years until Carol's retirement, at which time they moved to Placitas. He was an avid Toastmaster serving in several different positions at the state and regional level, receiving several prestigious awards and a member of the National Speakers Association. Ron was an enthusiastic ham radio operator, enjoyed working in his workshop creating many different things from exotic woods, international travel, and trains. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. SCHRODER -- Verl Albert Schroder, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1937, died Saturday, January 29, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Billie; children, Gloria Bradshaw and husband, Keith and Thomas E. Schroder and wife, Pat; two great-granddaughters, Brittany Ann and Chantily Ingram; and other relatives and friends. Verl was preceded in death by his parents, Earl A. and Fanny E. Huston Schroder; one granddaughter, Angalie Marie Ingram; and two sisters, Minnie G. Andeberry and Pearl Fau. He was born on September 23, 1924 in Huntley, NE and moved to Albuquerque at the age of 13 where he attended Albuquerque High. Verl was a home builder and later a building supervisor with Spartan Southwest and G.T.E. Lenkurt. He was a deacon at Hermosa Baptist Church and later worked in the Bus Ministry at Del Norte Baptist Church. Verl was a loving husband, father, and grandpa and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. SILVA -- Carmen J. Silva, 79, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 27, 2011. Carmen was born in Bayard, NM on August 5, 1931. Carmen enjoyed life and loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her five children, Encarnacion, Agapito Jr., Benardo, Delilah and Rachel; ten grandchildren, Tanya, Lina Robert, Carny Jr., Ricky, Amanda, Josh, Terri, Fabian and Mariah; and 14 great-great grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends. Carmen will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A Funeral Service will take place in the Chapel of Angels of Garcia Mortuary, Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. WHITAKER -- John A. Whitaker, age 54, beloved husband, father, son, and brother, was called to his heavenly home by the Lord, Friday, January 28, 2011, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dennison, OH and was a resident of Alameda, where he was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. John enjoyed volunteering during the annual Balloon Fiesta as part of the balloon chase crew and collecting aluminum cans. He also coached Little League Baseball. John is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sadie Whitaker; his precious daughters, Christina, Ericka Whitaker, and Lucianna Garcia; his loving mother, Jeanie Whitaker; his brothers, Frankie, Michael, Steven, and Andrew Whitaker; his sister, Christina Whitaker; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. John will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose hearts he touched. A rosary will be recited Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, where the Service of Christian Burial will follow at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at San Carlos Cemetery. YONEMOTO -- Teruo Ted Yonemoto January 2, 1929-January 27,2011.Ted Yonemoto, as he was known to his family and friends passed away January 27, 2011. Ted lived a fulfilling life that began in Phoenix, AZ. He was raised in a family of farming pioneers and innovators in AZ during the early 1930's and then in NM in the early 1940's. Ted graduated from Albuquerque High and UNM. He also served for a short time in the US Army. While Ted was an entrepreneur and dabbled in many ventures during his lifetime, his real passion was for training and showing German Shepherd dogs, winning the Best of Breed at the Westminster Kennel Club at Madison Square Garden. Ted enjoyed many activities including golf, fishing and bowling. He bowled weekly in a bowling league with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his favorite companion, Riki, his Belgian Malinois. Ted was also elated over the birth of his first grandson, Aidan in August of 2010. Ted married his wife Machiko, who survives him in death in January of 1962. He is also survived by his two sons, Edward (Cherish) Yonemoto and William Yonemoto as well as his brother, Masmi and sister, Tazue. He was preceded in death by his parents, Iwao and Tamiyo and siblings, Shizuko, Kiyoshi, and Miyuki. The family will be holding a viewing Wednesday, Feb.2, 2011 from 6-8pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services located at 7601 Wyoming.
