SANCHEZ -- Jake V. Sanchez passed away Sunday, December 30, 2007 in Albuquerque at the age of 84. Mr. Sanchez was a longtime resident of the Barelas neighborhood. He is survived by his brother, Florenio Sanchez, and sister, Maria Sanchez. A Rosary for Mr. Sanchez will be recited on Friday evening, January 4, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. STONE -- Rosemary (Mary) Stone, age 82, resident of Albuquerque, passed away on December 29, 2007 at Hospice by the Sea in Hollywood, FL. A beloved wife and mother, Mary was married to Gary Stone for 54 years before she was widowed in 1998. She is survived by her loving children, Kurt Stone and Patty Stone; her brother, Patrick Mockler; her cherished grandchild, Lucy Green; and many other extended family members and friends who love and miss her. Visitation will be on Friday at12:30 in the chapel of the Daniels Family Funeral Services at 3113 Carlisle Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at 2:30 in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. STRONG -- Jan - (Mona Janice) Strong was born January 4, 1952, the daughter of Mona Lou and Addison Strong, in Albuquerque where she spent her life with the exception of a few years in Hawaii. She loved the city of Albuquerque and living at Park Plaza among friends. She is survived by her mother, Mona Lou Strong; her twin sister; and best friend Lynn Blackburn; her sister Donna Strong; her daughter Clarie Miller and Clarie's husband Brett and four grandchildren, Ty, Shelby, Tanner and Kyleigh. She is also survived by her nephew, Wes Blackburn; nieces Victoria Strong and her daughter Alexia; her Aunt Alice Whitehill; and cousins Dan Wilson, Kathy Spiess and their families; her mother in law Betty Brown; and many loving cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Addison Strong; and grand and great-grandparents, the Strongs and Wilsons, long time Albuquerque residents. She worked for Core-Mark International Inc., whose continued concern and friendship has been heartwarming. She passed away December 22, 2007. Jan never let the cancer define her, continuing her life in every way living each day with a smile, independently and to the fullest. Jan loved her life and felt blessed always. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Chapel 215 Locust St. N. E. January 4 Friday at 3:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will follow at Park Plaza 1331 Park Ave. S.W. SYLVESTER -- Donell D. Sylvester, 84, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 1, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dora Sylvester; his children, Nancy Donett Brown and husband, Bill, John Sylvester and wife, Debbie, Mary Dell Saling and husband, Jim; grandchildren, Deonne Brown, Nathan Brown and wife, Karen, Piper Wild, Aaron Cravens and wife, Margot; and four great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one brother; and son, Durwin Kent. He received his Bachelor's of Science in soil conservation from the University of Nebraska and his Master's Degree in Range Management from the University of Wyoming. Mr. Sylvester started work as a rural school teacher, worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Nebraska, then Wyoming and finished his career as New Mexico State Range Conservationist before retiring in 1984. After retirement, he worked part time for Holistic Resource Management and even traveled to Africa with Christian Veterinary Mission. He was a member of Heights First Church of the Nazarene and Palo Duro Philatelic Society. He was a family man of great integrity, served God with his life and will be greatly missed. Services will be Friday, January 4, 2007, 1:00 p.m., at Heights First Church of the Nazarene, 8401 Paseo Del Norte, with burial to take place in Wilsonville, Nebraska at a later date. VICKERS -- ROBERT CLIFFORD Dr. Robert Clifford Vickers, 73, of Santa Fe, NM died peacefully in his sleep Friday, December 28, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New Concord, OH and attended Wellington Junior High and High School prior to graduating from Monongahela High School in Pennsylvania in 1952. He completed his undergraduate studies and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Ohio State University. A dedicated Buckeye, he was the Associate Editor of Odontos, a member of the Dental Chorus, the Kappa Sigma and Psi Omega Fraternities. Not surprisingly, the multi-talented Vickers also played the washboard in the famous Outhouse 3 +1 band. Upon graduation from Ohio State, Robert entered the Air Force as a Captain and was stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador. Robert practiced dentistry in Toledo, Ohio and later moved to Santa Fe, NM where he decided to concentrate on real estate development. His numerous development projects throughout the state included Miracerros in Santa Fe, the Commons at Angel Fire and Tres Lagunas in Pecos. Amazingly, he found time to dabble as a restaurateur opening the Village Inn and Calico Cow restaurants in Santa Fe and Herman's in Angel Fire. In addition, he was a member of the boards of the Santa Fe Orchestra, Santa Fe Ballet, St. Vincent Hospital and Santa Fe Preparatory School. Robert was also a proud member of the New Mexico Amigo's and relished the opportunity to act as an ambassador of goodwill throughout the world. Robert also spent time in Scottsdale, Arizona and enjoyed many passions throughout his life; the most important being family but he was also an avid horseman and golfer as well as an accomplished chef and artist, with a particular fondness for watercolors. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Kimberly Johnson, Robin Davis, Denise Jones, and Cynthia Brouwer; sons, Robert A. Stranahan IV and Mark E. Stranahan; brothers, Donald G. Vickers and James L. Vickers; sisters, Louise Constein and JoAnn Condi; as well as eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. and Wilma Vickers; sister, Eleanor; and brothers, Marion G. Vickers and Richard H. Vickers. WILSON -- Betty L. Wilson, 86, died at her home in Belen, NM on Saturday, December 30, 2007 surrounded by her loving family. Originally from Pennsylvania, Mrs. Wilson graduated from Plant High School in Tampa, FL and attended Huntington College for Womem in Montgomery, AL and Tampa University in Tampa, FL. She managed her father's jewelry store in Tampa and later was assistant manager for her mother's Lakeland, FL jewelry store and then for the fine jewelry department of the J.C. Penny store in Lakeland. For some years, she managed a motel for her stepmother. She also kept books for her husband's construction business and later assisted him in his restaurants. She met and married her husband in Miami, FL in 1946. She was the first President of a new Beta Sigma Phi Sorority chapter in Clearwater, FL. She led a Girl Scout Brownie troop in Largo, FL. Her hobbies and interests included acting in Little Theater plays in Tampa; oil painting, sewing, needlework, boogie-woogie piano playing, philosophy, nutrition, physical fitness, and politics. She resided in Lakeland, FL; Newcastle, WY; Weaverville, CA, Johnson City, TN; Indian Rocks Beach, FL; and Socorro, NM before moving to Belen. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar H. "Buddy" Wilson; her parents, W. C. and Helen (Servenak) Nicodemus; stepmother, Leah F. Nicodemus; her son, Ronald; and brother W. C. Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Munson and husband, Thomas of Belen, NM; grandson, Mark Plumley and wife, Andrea of Layton, UT; great-grandchildren: Aaron, Brooke, and Tana, all of Layton, UT; sister, Sylvia Stanley of Brandon, FL; nieces, Vicki Moulden and Marcia Alley, both of Lakeland, FL; and nephew, Charles Branch of Tallahassee, FL. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Socorro, NM with Unity minister Debbie O'Conner officiating. ARAGON -- Loraine Aragon, 52, of Albuquerque, passed away on December 28, 2007. She was born on November 1, 1955 in Raton, New Mexico and remained a lifelong resident of the state. She graduated from Questa High School in 1974. Loraine is survived by her mother, Isabel Aragon of Albuquerque; one sister, Marie Pazera of Albuquerque; and one brother, Ernie Aragon and wife, JoAnn of San Diego, CA. She was preceded in death by her father, Chris J. Aragon in 1984. She loved working in the outdoors and was an animal person. She enjoyed gardening and lived a very quiet lifestyle. ARGUELLES -- Roberto I. Arguelles was born on April 4, 1941 and passed away on January 2, 2008. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josefina Quintero Arguelles; father, Julio Arguelles; and brothers, Manuel Arguelles and Lorenzo Arguelles. He is survived by his wife, Julia Arguelles; sons, Robert (Bobby) Arguelles, Carlos Arguelles, Will Arguelles, and Gabriel Arguelles; grandchildren, Alicia Arguelles, Amber Arguelles, Monica Edenfield and husband, Josh Edenfield, Gabriel J. Arguelles, Jonah Chavez, and Christopher Arguelles; great-grandchild, Noah Arguelles; sisters Gloria Arguelles and Guadalupe Rodriguez; and numerous nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be Gabriel J. ATOR-BRIGHT -- Linda Ator-Bright died December 31, 2007 of Leukemia. She was born 11-9-1945 in Pittsfield, IL to Homer and Beverly Ator. Linda was raised in Albuquerque, NM where she graduated from the University of Albuquerque with a BA in business. She worked at University of Houston as the treasurer. She subsequently received an MBA from University of Houston, was a consultant for Oracle and worked in the Auditors Office for Harris County. Linda was preceded in death by her father, Homer Ator and is survived by her mother, Beverly Ator; brother, Larry Ator; sisters, Carol Ashley, Judi Grady, Marcia Paz of Albuquerque and Sharon Seeloff of Frankfurt Germany; daughter, Kelle Pido; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kyle and Jace Pido in Seabrook TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home Chapel, Webster. BERTINETTI -- DOMINIC F. Memorial Service for Dominic F. Bertinetti will be held at 10 a.m. on January 4, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church 1800 Redrock Dr., Gallup, NM. "Uncle Floyd" died December 30, 2007 born July 25, 1937. Uncle Floyd to those who were close to him was also known as the "Cake Man" to many in Gallup. Uncle Floyd graduated from Gallup High School in 1956, then served his country in the United States Air Force. He then attended bookkeeping school in Albuquerque. After spending 4 years in Colorado he returned to Gallup. He lived in Zuni for several years finally moving back to Gallup to care for his parents. He worked for a local business before retiring. His love for young people and helping others brought him out of retirement and he began working at Central High School serving lunches to the staff and students. He also served the community during the summer months, working for the summer lunch program. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Helen Bertinetti and two nieces. He is survived by two brothers, David and Jerry Bertinetti; and one sister, Melvina Lewis all of Gallup; four nieces and one nephew; six great-nieces and six great-nephews. A family reception will be held following the Memorial Service at the First United Methodist Church.
