VICKERS -- ROBERT CLIFFORD Dr. Robert Clifford Vickers, 73, of Santa Fe, NM died peacefully in his sleep Friday, December 28, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New Concord, OH and attended Wellington Junior High and High School prior to graduating from Monongahela High School in Pennsylvania in 1952. He completed his undergraduate studies and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Ohio State University. A dedicated Buckeye, he was the Associate Editor of Odontos, a member of the Dental Chorus, the Kappa Sigma and Psi Omega Fraternities. Not surprisingly, the multi-talented Vickers also played the washboard in the famous Outhouse 3 +1 band. Upon graduation from Ohio State, Robert entered the Air Force as a Captain and was stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador. Robert practiced dentistry in Toledo, Ohio and later moved to Santa Fe, NM where he decided to concentrate on real estate development. His numerous development projects throughout the state included Miracerros in Santa Fe, the Commons at Angel Fire and Tres Lagunas in Pecos. Amazingly, he found time to dabble as a restaurateur opening the Village Inn and Calico Cow restaurants in Santa Fe and Herman's in Angel Fire. In addition, he was a member of the boards of the Santa Fe Orchestra, Santa Fe Ballet, St. Vincent Hospital and Santa Fe Preparatory School. Robert was also a proud member of the New Mexico Amigo's and relished the opportunity to act as an ambassador of goodwill throughout the world. Robert also spent time in Scottsdale, Arizona and enjoyed many passions throughout his life; the most important being family but he was also an avid horseman and golfer as well as an accomplished chef and artist, with a particular fondness for watercolors. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Kimberly Johnson, Robin Davis, Denise Jones, and Cynthia Brouwer; sons, Robert A. Stranahan IV and Mark E. Stranahan; brothers, Donald G. Vickers and James L. Vickers; sisters, Louise Constein and JoAnn Condi; as well as eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. and Wilma Vickers; sister, Eleanor; and brothers, Marion G. Vickers and Richard H. Vickers. Robert will be cremated and interned at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on January 11, 2008. Memorials can be made to the Cancer Institute of New Mexico Foundation, P.O. Box 5038, Santa Fe, NM, 87502. (www.ci-nmfoundation.com) A celebration of his life will take place January 12, 2008, time and place to be announced.
