Betty L. Wilson, 86, died at her home in Belen, NM on Saturday, December 30, 2007 surrounded by her loving family. Originally from Pennsylvania, Mrs. Wilson graduated from Plant High School in Tampa, FL and attended Huntington College for Womem in Montgomery, AL and Tampa University in Tampa, FL. She managed her father's jewelry store in Tampa and later was assistant manager for her mother's Lakeland, FL jewelry store and then for the fine jewelry department of the J.C. Penny store in Lakeland. For some years, she managed a motel for her stepmother. She also kept books for her husband's construction business and later assisted him in his restaurants. She met and married her husband in Miami, FL in 1946. She was the first President of a new Beta Sigma Phi Sorority chapter in Clearwater, FL. She led a Girl Scout Brownie troop in Largo, FL. Her hobbies and interests included acting in Little Theater plays in Tampa; oil painting, sewing, needlework, boogie-woogie piano playing, philosophy, nutrition, physical fitness, and politics. She resided in Lakeland, FL; Newcastle, WY; Weaverville, CA, Johnson City, TN; Indian Rocks Beach, FL; and Socorro, NM before moving to Belen. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar H. "Buddy" Wilson; her parents, W. C. and Helen (Servenak) Nicodemus; stepmother, Leah F. Nicodemus; her son, Ronald; and brother W. C. Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Munson and husband, Thomas of Belen, NM; grandson, Mark Plumley and wife, Andrea of Layton, UT; great-grandchildren: Aaron, Brooke, and Tana, all of Layton, UT; sister, Sylvia Stanley of Brandon, FL; nieces, Vicki Moulden and Marcia Alley, both of Lakeland, FL; and nephew, Charles Branch of Tallahassee, FL. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Socorro, NM with Unity minister Debbie O'Conner officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Steadman-Hall Funeral Home, 309 Garfield, Socorro, NM. 575-835-1530.
