The milestone of graduating from the Fire Academy was the initiation of a rewarding career and more importantly, the beginning of lifelong bonds internal to the brethren of firefighters. His career ended in the same place it began, as Assistant Chief in command of the Fire Academy. Through the years he served Albuquerque in working with great people, protecting property by fighting uncontrollable forces, helping the needy, saving lives, and was blessed with the skills and abilities to deliver new lives into the world. Rick loved nature and outdoor life, preferring open spaces to urban living. He spent many years residing in the New Mexico Mountains or other country areas. His love of camping and hunting came second to the company of family and friends that were by his side during his outdoor adventures. A father, a grandfather, a friend, Rick is survived by his daughter, Victoria Grimm and husband, Shane; grandson, Mark Garcia; and granddaughter, Danielle Garcia; son, Rick Winters and wife, Sara; grandsons, Adam and Ethan Winters; daughter, Maria Cordova and husband, Jeff; grandson, Estevan Romero; granddaughter, Mia Cordova; and grandson, Diego Cordova. He leaves beloved memories to other surviving family members: brother, Thomas and wife, Jeri; sister, Patricia and husband, Richard; sister, Kathleen; and sister, Colleen and husband, James; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gregory and his parents, Thomas and Dorothy Winters.
