JOHNSON -- Delbert Johnson, 92, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2006. He was born July 22, 1913. A longtime Albuquerque resident, his friends, cohorts, and acquaintances knew him better as "The Muleman." His family called him Dad or Del. Del was born at home in the Tennessee hills, one of 11 children. He left home at 16 to see the world with $3.25 in his pocket. Throughout his life, he regaled his family and friends with funny and crazy stories of his many youthful adventures. He met and married Geraldine Evans and they settled in Albuquerque in the late '40s where they raised four daughters. For 40 years, he owned and operated H&J Wheel Alignment on old Route 66, but his first love was tradin' horses and mules. Using the knowledge and skills he learned in Tennessee, he prided himself on knowing a "good mule" when he saw one and getting the better end of any deal. But his friends and those he traded with will say that he was always fair. He spent 50 years raising, riding, showing, packing, and trading mules and, in his retirement years, racing mules. In the last 20 years, he moved on to racing horses. He co-owned King of Stars, a many time winner and track record holder, at the Ruidoso Downs racetrack in the 1990's. He was a proud Mason and also belonged to the Elks Lodge and Rio Grande Mule Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine "Jerry" Johnson. He is survived by his four daughters and their husbands, Pam and Gene Porter of Ramona, CA, Teri Ashby of Sacramento, CA, Judy and Sam Lybarger of Las Vegas, NV, and Nancee and Donald Willis of Carlsbad, NM. He is also survived by granddaughter, Erin Ashby; five grandsons, Robert Porter, Russell Lybarger, and Sean, Jaren and Jason Willis; great-granddaughter, Haley Weygandt-Porter; close nephew, Riley "Snookie" Johnson and his wife, Betty; as well as many other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by companion, Doris Turner as well as close friend and trading partner, Malcom Petree. Del would be the first to say..."It was a good run." Services are Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333

PAULL -- Joseph E. Paull, age 83, died November 25, 2005, of injuries suffered on November 20, 2005. Dr. Paull had worked for the three NM Social Services agencies: Human Services, the Health Department, and the Corrections Department. He was the author of a study titled "In Limbo" which was a survey of children in foster care. This resulted in legislation requiring Citizen Review Boards, which periodically studied the cases of children in foster care and recommended dispositions to the courts including termination of parental rights and placement for adoption. This is very important in that it prevents children being kept in foster care beyond the age of adoptability. Until two years ago, he lobbied the Legislature on all kinds of social bills and served on Citizen Review Boards. Dr. Paull received his bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico, his MSW (Master of Social Work) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his PhD from Columbia University. Dr. Paull taught social work policy at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, New York University in Manhattan, and at the University of Minnesota. He is survived by his life partner of 46 years, Robert W. Jerkins of Santa Fe, NM; his sister, Bella Wheeler of Lincoln, MA; and his niece, Beth Milham, of Providence, RI and her family. At his request the body was cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. , Saturday, January 21, 2006 at United Church of Santa Fe, 1804 Arroyo Chamiso, Santa Fe.

PERNER -- Adrienne Perner, age 67, born on Governors Island in New York City and a longtime New Mexico and Albuquerque resident, was killed in an automobile accident in Albuquerque on Saturday, January 14, 2006 on her way to see her grandson's basketball game. An ardent helper of those services who need volunteer help, she served as a volunteer for many years at the University of New Mexico Hospital Service League, ultimately serving as President of the Service League. She furthermore felt the need to promote and speak about her beloved state of New Mexico and became an information volunteer for the Albuquerque Convention and Vistor Bureau (AVCB) at the Old Town and Airport information booths. She was later asked to serve as its Volunteer Coordinator and did so for a number of years. During a recent four year period at her Pinetop, AZ home, Adrienne immersed herself in the charitable functions of the White Mountain Women's Club, the Church of Our Savior, and the White Mountains Humane Society. Longing the need to be closer to family, grandchildren and our Albuquerque home, Adrienne and her husband, Jim, returned to Albuquerque where she found the need to help the thrift shop at the Cathedral Church of St. John. She also spent time and worked with the local women's Republican Club. Early in life, as the daughter of a West Point Army officer and his wife, Madeline, Adrienne traveled with her parents to Panama, Germany and the Netherlands. During World War II, Adrienne and her two siblings settled and lived in Santa Fe, NM. It is at this point that the cultural love of New Mexico began. A trained dancer at the Washington School of Ballet, Adrienne later performed in New York City, Pittsburgh, Montreal, and various places in Europe. Upon returning home to El Paso where her father and mother had settled, her father accepted a position to teach at Texas Western College (now UTEP). Adrienne continued her dancing with the local productions while taking a job a Southern Union Gas Co. It is here where she met her husband, Jim, who together for 44 years spent small periods of time in El Paso, San Antonio, and Lubbock before settling in Albuquerque in 1965. In all of these cities, particularly Albuquerque, Adrienne instructed ballet, principally at the Dorothy Night School of Dance, all the while touching the lives of many young students. Preceding her in death are her father, Robert Miller; mother, Madeline Bond Miller; sister, Patricia Nunez; sister-in-law, Cornelia Miller; father-in-law, John E. Perner; and mother-in-law, Mary E. Perner. Surviving are her husband, Jim of Albuquerque; son, John and wife, Cindy and grandchildren, Justin and Katiana of Albuquerque; son, Jeffrey and wife, Betsy of Santa Fe; brother, Robert Miller of Holland, MI; brothers-in-law, John E.
