ROTHSTEIN -- Harold Rothstein, age 89, a resident of Edgewood, NM, formerly of Rochester NY, passed away Friday January 13, 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Pies Rothstein; sisters, Jean, Ceal, Rose, and Stella; his parents, Ida and Solomon Rothstein; and his sons-in-law, James A. Pirozzi and J. Robie Vestal. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Rothstein Pirozzi of Edgewood, NM, and Debra R Vestal-Clark and husband, Charles of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Hillary Fletcher and husband, John of Omaha, NE, and Jeremy Brown of Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren, Zane, Jack, and Baye Fletcher; nephew, Stephen Lazarus and wife, Elissa of Denver, CO; nieces, Sandra Herritt Rosental of Rochester, NY, Lynn Koffsky and husband, Ed of Atlanta, GA, Leslie Garfinkel and husband, Charles of Buffalo, NY, Ann Marie Pirozzi, and Miranda Bovdina; several grand-nieces, -nephews, and many friends. Harold was an exceptional high school and collegiate athlete. He played basketball and soccer, winning many titles and awards. After graduation from Cortland Normal School in 1940, where he was pursing a degree in physical education, he was drafted and served as a Master Sergeant in Europe during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star for saving men in his unit from a mine field. After the war, Harold graduated from the University of Buffalo and went on to become a pharmacist and was the proprietor of Pittsford Central Pharmacy until the mid 1980s. He was actively involved with the Jewish War Veterans in Rochester, NY serving terms as Post Commander. The family requests that in lieu of flower contributions in his name be made to The Jewish Family Service of NM, 5520 Wyoming Blvd., Albuquerque, NM, or to The Jewish National Fund Trees for Israel. The family also wishes to thank the Estancia Valley Catholic Parish in particular Fr. Win Young, Mary Jones, and Josephine Basset and those of St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Church in Edgewood for their kindness. A special thanks also to the staff of the VA hospital in Albuquerque for their care, support, and compassion during a difficult time. Funeral Services and burial are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday January 18, 2006; please call Strong-Thorne Mortuary or the family for more information. Services will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
