CHAVEZ -- Aurelia Chavez, 86, passed away on September 9, 2003. She was born on April 29, 1917 in Torreon, NM. Mrs. Chavez is survived by her sons, Seferino Chavez and wife, Celestina, Elfigo Chavez and wife, Bertha, Augustine Chavez and wife, Linda, Albert Chavez, Florencio Chavez and wife, Margarita and Leroy Chavez; daughters, Socorro Chavez, Ramoncita Quintana and husband, Eugenio, Emily Vigil and husband, Tito and MaryRose Gallegos and husband, Floyd; 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Aurelia will be deeply missed by her loving family. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Santuario de San Martin Catholic Church, 8321 Camino San Martin S.W. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning, 10:00 a.m. at the San Antonio Church in Torreon, NM. Interment will follow at the Torreon Cemetery. CHIOCCHIO -- Mildred Chiocchio, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on September 5, 2003. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 22, 1929 to Ettore and Rose Di Monico Zacchia. Mildred was married to her loving husband, Gene in October of 1958. She came to New Mexico in 1990 from Long Island, NY. Mildred was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her family and they were the most important thing in her life. Mildred was an incredible cook and loved pleasing others with her culinary delights. Mildred is survived by her beloved husband Gene of Rio Rancho; her cherished sons, Michael and wife Lorena of Rio Rancho, Jerry and wife Melinda of Long Island, NY; her three precious grandsons, James, Steven, and Peter; and many others who will deeply miss her. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Sunrise Funeral Options, 2400 Southern Blvd in Rio Rancho. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. also in the chapel with Father Michael Schamp as Celebrant. COFFEY -- Marie M. Coffey, 71, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, September 7, 2003. She was born on August 26, 1932, the daughter of Matthew and Helen Malone and was raised, along with her brother, Patrick and sister, Helen, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Marie worked for the F.B.I. in Chicago, IL, where she met her husband. She married Frank Coffey on January 10, 1953. He preceded her in death in 1990. She is survived by her four children, Frank Coffey Jr., Cindy McGill and husband, Curt, Carol Adler and husband, Bob, and Janet Hrncir and husband, John; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael and Bob Coffey, Adrienne and Steve McGill; one sister, Helen Malone of Glen Ellyn, IL; and many nieces and nephews. Frank and Marie raised their family in Forest Hills, NY, until moving to Albuquerque in June of 1973. She worked at Phillips Petroleum and Futures for Children. Marie loved traveling, gardening, pets, photography and music. In 1987, she graduated with distinction from UNM with a Bachelor's Degree in University Studies. Marie will be remembered for her integrity, her loving spirit, her caring way and her joyfulness. Cremation has taken place and a memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 11, 2003, at 11:00 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel NE. DIAZ -- Donald Gallegos Diaz, 44, a resident of Hurley, New Mexico, passed away September 3, 2003. He is survived by his children, Amanda Mendoza-Diaz, and Alyssa Borrego-Diaz; grandson, Matias Diaz-Marquez; brother, Johnnie G. Diaz; sisters, Rosella Diaz, Hopi Diaz -Rodriguez and Gloria Diaz-Herron; three nephews and seven nieces and many other relatives and friends. GILMORE -- Mary D. Gilmore, a loyal resident of Los Alamos for over forty years, died in her sleep in the early morning hours on Sunday, September 7, 2003. Born in Pueblo, Colorado on April 4, 1925, she had an indomitable spirit and a love of laughter that endeared her to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gilmore, and son, Gray Gilmore. She is survived by three daughters, Robin Gauthier and husband, Jack Gauthier, Wendy Gilmore and Polly McWilliams and her husband, Bennie McWilliams; nine grandchildren, Anna Gilmore, Jessica Gilmore, Nicholas Gauthier, Emily Gauthier, Kelly McWilliams, Benjamin McWilliams, Robert McWilliams and Elizabeth McWilliams, one great-grandchild, Faith Gilmore and also, her sister, Frances Richards; her brother, John Gray; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary had many lifelong friends and new companions who filled her days, especially in the months before her passing, with special meaning. She will be greatly missed by us all. GOMEZ -- Trancito (Trancy) O. Gomez, age 47, beloved son, brother, and grandson was called home to be with the Lord our savior, Monday, September 8, 2003. Trancy was born in Las Vegas NM and was a resident of Bernalillo. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose G. Gomez. He is survived by his loving mother, Stella Gomez of Bernalillo; sisters, Isabel Martinez of Albuquerque, Jane Saiz and husband Manuel of Las Vegas, NM, Mary Gomez-Casillas and husband Danny of Corrales, NM; brothers Lawrence Gomez, Tony Gomez, John Gomez, Roger Gomez and wife Monica all of Albuquerque. Also surviving are his maternal grandfather, Lorenzo Aragon; several nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. Visitations will be Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary, where a rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. HAWORTH -- Earl "Bud" Haworth, 58, went to be with his Lord Friday night, September 5, 2003 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell. He died from complications following a stroke. Bud was born November 20, 1944 in Shelby, MT, the youngest of three children from Eliel "Lyle" and Ardis "Tiny" Haworth. He lettered in football and basketball under Jess LaBuff at Shelby High School and following graduation, entered the U.S.Navy, serving primarily in the Philippines as a clerk in Legal Affairs. After his discharge, he worked in Seattle, Washington for a time. During the 1980's, he lived in Belen where he helped establish a branch of the firm "Haworth & Stutts Realty" and worked there for several years. In 1989, he returned to Montana with his mate, Vicki Lee, and resided in Whitefish, then in Kalispell where he was a self-employed realtor specializing in farms and ranches with his agency "Rawhide Realty". Bud's primary interest and great pleasure was his two sons, Shawn, 28 and Justin, 26. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a breeder and owner of Quarter Horse race horses while in New Mexico. Bud also pursued a personal and faithful study of the Bible. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tiny in 1990, and Lyle in 1999. Bud is survived by Vicki Lee at their home in Kalispell; his sons, Shawn and Justin, from a previous marriage, who live in Houston, TX; a sister, Marty Keller and her husband Bud in Shelby; a brother, Jim Haworth and his wife Jamie in Albuquerque, NM; nephews Brett, Shannon, Cody, and Brian Haworth in Albuquerque, Travis Haworth in Shelby, MT, and Steve Samuelson and his wife Jill in California; and by nieces Lindsey Haworth in Albuquerque, and Lyla Lingle in Helena, MT. His many other relatives and friends are too numerous to list, but were cherished dearly during Bud's life. A memorial service was held with a multitude of family and friends at Lake McDonald to celebrate Bud's life with prayer and remembrance, and was officiated by Pastor John Swanson, a family friend, from Helena. KILLOUGH -- Hal Killough, 74, a resident of Los Alamos for most of his life and Albuquerque for the last three years, died Monday, September 8, 2003, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Selmon of Roswell, NM; son, Ron Killough and wife, Joyce of Albuquerque; grandsons, Richard Selmon and wife, Melissa of Denver, CO and Christopher Killough of Texas; granddaughter, Staci Bolin of Roswell, NM; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Bolin and Christopher Bolin; brothers, Howard Killough of Grants, NM, Don Killough of Texas and Bobbie Killough of Albuquerque; sister, Joyce Brown; numerous nieces and nephews; five sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law. Mr. Killough was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; parents, Aubrey and Olta; and brothers, Joe and Bonnell. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Sperry and U.S.S. Barbero. Mr. Killough was a member of the Sheriff's Posse in Los Alamos and a member of I.B.E.W. Union. He enjoyed square dancing, and was a member and president of Alamande Leftovers. LALICKER -- Arcena A. Lalicker, 99, died peacefully at her home in Albuquerque on Monday, September 8, 2003. She was born April 18, 1904 to John and Mary Aldrich in Bluff City, KS. She grew up in South Haven, KS and graduated from South Haven High School in 1923. She worked as a telephone operator and supervisor. In 1956, Arcena moved to Albuquerque to marry her high school sweetheart, Carlton F. Lalicker. She is preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; one brother; and nephew. She is survived by her niece, Margaret Patterson and family; Carlton's children, Robert G. Lalicker, wife, Marjorie, and family, Nancy M. Shaffer, husband, George, and family. Also surviving her are numerous grand-nieces; nephews; grandchildren; great grand nieces; nephews; and great grandchildren. Arcena was a cheerful, well-read, and hard working woman who finally retired in 1973. She was a devoted Christian and long-standing member of the Monte Vista Christian Church community. An avid sports fan, she loved watching football, basketball, golf, and tennis. She was a committed Lobo fan, knew the players, their positions, and their statistics up to the time of her passing. She will be remembered as a caring and loving person by her many friends and family members. Arcena was a joy to be around, "a little ray of sunshine" and will be greatly missed. LOFTIS -- Mrs. Eunice Loftis, born on September 21, 1914 to Jesse and Odie Lovvorn in Texas, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on September 8, 2003 in Belen, NM. Eunice, along with her husband Edwin, was the owner and operator of the Taos Motel for 16 years in Taos, NM. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen for 21 years and volunteered her time with a Spanish missionary group for over 40 years. Eunice is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Edwin Loftis of the family home in Belen; two loving daughters, Lou Jane Martin and her husband, Don of Amarillo, TX; and Sue Jean Thompson of Albuquerque, NM; six granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren. Eunice's family would like to express their thanks to Quality Continuum for their care and compassion for Eunice during her illness. NORED -- Mary Wilson (Bailey) Nored passed away September 5, 2003. She was born in Hamilton, TX, and was the daughter of Dr. Thomas Bennett Bailey and Grace (Wheeler) Bailey. She had many fond memories of growing up in Brownwood, TX where her father was a physician. Her family moved to Austin, TX in 1931. Mary graduated from St. Mary's High School in Austin and attended North Texas Women's College in Denton, TX. After returning to Austin she met and married Clarence Eugene Nored of Corpus Christi, TX on January 1, 1942. After World War II Mary and Gene lived in Austin, Corpus Christi and Marshall, TX. They settled in Las Vegas, NV in 1965 where Mr. Nored was a pharmacist for White Cross Pharmacy at the time of his death in 1970. Mary enjoyed life, all God's creatures great and small and was a longtime supporter of the National Wildlife Federation. She loved to fish in the Gulf of Mexico where she caught her prized Tarpon. Mary had a great sense of adventure and was always ready to travel. Her devoted husband, Gene nicknamed her "Skipper" and that she was - the skipper of our family. She will be remembered for her optimism about life, her humor and her never dying love and support for her children. She was preceded in death by her sister, Van Enola Chauvin. She is survived by her son, Thomas Nored and wife, Diana of Corpus Christi, TX; her three daughters, Cheryl Dean and husband, Dr. Allen Dean of Albuquerque, NM, Kim Fucile of Albuquerque, NM, and Pam Forbes of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, T.B. O'BRIEN -- Louise O'Brien, age 89, died September 7, 2003. Survivors include one daughter, Susan Stuart and husband, Norman of Amarillo. One grandson, Eric Stuart of New York. Special friend and faithful visitor, Maxine Roy of Amarillo. Mrs. O'Brien was born in Evansville, Indiana to James Loyd and Jenie Lee DeLain McCurdy. She married Ray O'Brien who preceded her in death. Mrs. O'Brien moved to Amarillo in 1988 from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. PEARL -- George Clayton Pearl, the notable New Mexico architect, died on August 16, 2003. A Memorial Service will be conducted by his friends and family on Saturday, September 13, at 10:00 a.m. at the Simms Auditorium on the Albuquerque Academy Campus. PRIOLA -- Dr. Donald Victor Priola, 64, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. Dr. Priola was born September 8, 1938 in Chicago, IL where he received his Bachelor of Science and Doctoral degrees from Loyola University of Chicago. In 1966, he accepted a position in the Department of Pharmacology at the newly formed University of New Mexico School of Medicine, becoming a full Professor of Physiology by 1975. His exceptional research and teaching career at the School of Medicine spanned over 31 years, including 16 years as Chairman of the Department of Physiology. During his prolific scientific career, he authored over 70 scientific publications. In recognition of his research achievements, he received a Research Career Development Award from the National Heart Lung Blood Institute and was awarded a Senior International Fellowship by the Fogarty International Center in 1986. He was a member of numerous professional societies and at one time was President of the Western Pharmacology Society and the American Heart Association, New Mexico Affiliate. He loved teaching, and was proud to say that he taught the very first graduating class at The UNM School of Medicine. In recognition of his outstanding teaching achievements, he was chosen as the recipient of the prestigious Khatali teaching award in 1978 and 2002. At his retirement in 1998, he was made Emeritus Professor of Cell Biology and Physiology at UNM where he continued teaching. Dr. Priola is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia; and by his children, Sandra Kubica and her husband, David, Dr. Suzette Priola, Donna Gallegos and her husband, Alexander, and Donald T. Priola and his fiancee, Robin Helms. He was the very proud grandfather of Victoria, Adam, and Kevin Kubica and Thomas, William and Patrick Gallegos, as well as a doting uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Belter and her husband, William; his sister-in-law, Nancy Hennig and her husband, Richard; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Rehm. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. RUMBAUGH -- Gale Coleman Rumbaugh passed away suddenly in Nanaimo, British Columbia on June 15, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Sollenberger and her husband, Dwight; son, John Mark and his wife, Ann and son, David and wife, Sharon; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Madolan Reichold, Berchie Henderson and Noralee Bruscus; two brothers, Lauter Edward and Charles Kent Rumbaugh. Gale was born in Hurricane, West Virginia and moved to Albuquerque in 1947. He later moved to British Columbia and for a time had his own business there. After retiring, he spent winters in Albuquerque and summers on Vancouver Island. He was a master mason and an avid golfer. SHARP -- Cleo Richard Sharp, 65, formally of Fort Scott, Kansas died Wednesday, August 27, 2003 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Rich was born August 31, 1937 to the late Eathnel and Audrey Vielbig Sharp in Fort Scott. A graduate of Ft. Scott High School, he attended Kansas State College at Pittsburg, KS. Rich spent many years as an advertising executive with New Mexico Magazine where he developed a reputation as a "pure professional". He came to New Mexico after closing Sharp and Associates a successful Dallas, Texas ad agency. SMITHART -- Laura A. Smithart, 76, "God said it - I believe it - That settles it." passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2003. Laura was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, mentor, and woman of unfathomable faith. Laura's many accomplishments room mother, 4-H leader, member of Ponderosa extension service, served on the Economic Development Board in Tijeras, NM, a quilter and doll craftswoman and devoted member of Mountainside Methodist and Crossroads Church of the Nazerene. She was preceded in death by her father, John David Henderson; sister, Faye Rene Henderson; her first husband , Henry C. Black; and second husband, Bobby A. Smithart. She is survived by her mother, Helen Faye Henderson, her brother, John Jerry Henderson; her son, James Paul Black and his wife, Pamela K. McCoy of Cedar Crest NM, and daughters Dana Faye Dawson and husband, James C. Dawson, of Edgewood NM, and Sally Ann Martin her husband, David L. Martin of Sandia Park NM, and Bobby's children, Lindley B. Smithart of Portland OR; daughter, Deborah Craig and husband, David of Albuquerque; daughter, Michelle McGraw and husband, Clarence of Lewisville TX; daughter, Theresa S. LaVerne of, KS; son-in-law, Michael Stoker of Los Lunas, NM; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the Crossroads Church of the Nazarene, 1200 Columbia, Moriarty, NM 87035. Laura's remains will be interred with her late husband, B. A. Smithart at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. TAPIA -- Felipe Tapia, 73, a resident of Farmington, NM passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 6, 2003. He proudly served with the US Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Los Alamos in 1991 with many years of dedicated service and a member of the Iron Workers 495 since 1959. He was an avid fisherman and never missed an opportunity to spend time in the mountains pursuing his love for the outdoors. Felipe was a talented welder and fabricator of steel, and worked many wonders with his hands creating ornamental iron work for his family and friends. His talent for any type of trailer building, balconies, chili roasters, and anything else that you could ever imagine, he could build it for you with ease. He was always willing to help not only his loved ones, but anyone in need. He was a human calculator when it came to math, never needing more than to figure out the solution in his head. His passion was spending time with his family and friends and spending time 4-wheeling on his son-in-law's ATV. He is preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Dickie Zamora in 2000; father, Ofelio J. in 2002; mother, Victoria Tapia in 1994; brother-in-law, Gilbert Maez; father-in-law, Ali Romero; sisters-in-law, Dolores Gregg and Grace Rorrick; and his good friend, Steve Sanchez. Felipe is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Theresa of the family home in Farmington; daughters, Beatrice and husband, Henry Gutierrez of Belen, NM, Frances and husband, Mark Warner of Farmington, Felipe Tapia, Jr., and Cynthia Tapia of Farmington; nine grandchildren, Beverly and Steven Gutierrez, Stacy and Jeff Hines, Marcus Hunsberger, Denise and husband, Kevin Byrnes, Carmeline and husband, Jeff Churba, Nathan and Curtis Zamora and Dolores and husband, Patrick Sanchez; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Felicita Maez, Rosie Tapia-Garcia, Frances and husband, Julian Griego, John Tapia and wife, Carmen, Richard Tapia and friend, Sharon, Lucy and husband, Tano Gonzales, brother-in-law, Osben Garcia; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at Romero Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Service following at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will then take place. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 800 W. 30th Street, Farmington, NM 87401.
