Obituary for TAPIA

Felipe Tapia, 73, a resident of Farmington, NM passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 6, 2003. He proudly served with the US Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Los Alamos in 1991 with many years of dedicated service and a member of the Iron Workers 495 since 1959. He was an avid fisherman and never missed an opportunity to spend time in the mountains pursuing his love for the outdoors. Felipe was a talented welder and fabricator of steel, and worked many wonders with his hands creating ornamental iron work for his family and friends. His talent for any type of trailer building, balconies, chili roasters, and anything else that you could ever imagine, he could build it for you with ease. He was always willing to help not only his loved ones, but anyone in need. He was a human calculator when it came to math, never needing more than to figure out the solution in his head. His passion was spending time with his family and friends and spending time 4-wheeling on his son-in-law's ATV. He is preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Dickie Zamora in 2000; father, Ofelio J. in 2002; mother, Victoria Tapia in 1994; brother-in-law, Gilbert Maez; father-in-law, Ali Romero; sisters-in-law, Dolores Gregg and Grace Rorrick; and his good friend, Steve Sanchez. Felipe is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Theresa of the family home in Farmington; daughters, Beatrice and husband, Henry Gutierrez of Belen, NM, Frances and husband, Mark Warner of Farmington, Felipe Tapia, Jr., and Cynthia Tapia of Farmington; nine grandchildren, Beverly and Steven Gutierrez, Stacy and Jeff Hines, Marcus Hunsberger, Denise and husband, Kevin Byrnes, Carmeline and husband, Jeff Churba, Nathan and Curtis Zamora and Dolores and husband, Patrick Sanchez; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Felicita Maez, Rosie Tapia-Garcia, Frances and husband, Julian Griego, John Tapia and wife, Carmen, Richard Tapia and friend, Sharon, Lucy and husband, Tano Gonzales, brother-in-law, Osben Garcia; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at Romero Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Service following at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will then take place. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 800 W. 30th Street, Farmington, NM 87401.
