Armstrong -- Laurel Faye Armstrong, 73, of Cerrillos, New Mexico passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003. Laurel beat cancer for over two years and finally succumbed to complications from a July 16, 2003 stroke. She was born March 17, 1930 in Fremont Michigan, the lively youngest child of Lloyd and Marjorie Osborn; her four sisters called her Lolly. Known as Laurie as she went through school, she met her future husband, Major Bernard Armstrong, USAF (Ret) through one of her sisters. Following several military sponsored moves, the couple settled in New Mexico, where Laurie grew to love the landscape so different from that in Michigan. She was an avid gardener and birdwatcher, growing beautiful gardens full of blossoms and hummingbirds. For the past 30 years she also devoted much of her time to genealogy, and traced her family roots back to William the Conqueror. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bernard; sons, Lon and Blane; daughter, Mary Lee; six grandchildren, Ethan Armstrong, Miriam Armstrong, Kaleena Armstrong, Aaron Medina, Amber Medina, and Rebecca Armstrong; and her sisters, Ival Carne, Ona Orr, and Phyllis Hollowell. She is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Ruth Nyson. Cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Johns United Methodist Church in Santa Fe on July 29, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bernstein -- Dr. Morton E. Bernstein, 89, a resident of Albuquerque and Sun City West, AZ, died Monday, July 28, 2003. He is survived by his daughters, Lonni Brill and husband, Zil of Los Angeles, CA and Elena Tommasi and husband, Robert of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Shira Brill and fiance, Chad, Rina Simon and husband, Jason, all of Los Angeles, CA and Ryan Tommasi of Albuquerque; sister, Blanche Boroff of Brooklyn, NY and Owen Bernstein and wife, Bebe of Queens, NY. Dr. Bernstein practiced dentistry in New York for over 40 years. He was also an artist and sculptor. Dr. Bernstein was very active in the Jewish Community in Albuquerque, as well as in Arizona. He was president of the American Dental Association and the American Society of Endodontics. Dr. Bernstein was very well liked and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale SE, with Rabbi Chaim Schmukler officiating. Buczek -- David A. Buczek, 56, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, July 25, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Marie of Albuquerque; brother, Ben of St. Joseph, MO; sons, Brian of Kansas and Sean of New Mexico; daughter, Tammy of Kansas; and grandchildren, Alexis, Cody and Selina. Dave served his country during the Vietnam War and was a hardworking state employee who will be missed by many across the state. Dave loved hiking, camping, fishing and exploring the ghost towns of New Mexico. Campbell -- Dennis Lee Campbell, 57, a resident of Albuquerque for 12 years, passed away on July 26, 2003. Dougherty -- Thomas Robert Dougherty, passed away July 22, 2003, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his sons, Steve Dougherty and wife, Yael and John Dougherty; daughter, Amy Cantrall; granddaughters, Ashley and Jessica Cantrall; grandsons, Dustin and Kayne Dougherty; brother, Bill Dougherty and wife, Billie of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Susan Mickey and husband, Bob of Tulsa, OK; and brother, Mike Dougherty and wife, Kathy of Minneapolis, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William J. and Alice Walsh Dougherty. Born in Sioux Falls, SD, August 10, 1929, he graduated from Washington High School and attended the University of South Dakota and South Dakota State. Tom served with the South Dakota Air National Guard during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Albuquerque in 1963 to work for Mutual of Omaha. Over the years, Tom worked for several car dealerships and ended his career in 1998 after 20 years with Galles Chevrolet. He loved his grandchildren, cars and sports of all kinds, but especially golf. Gallegos -- Maria"Mela" Manuelita Gallegos, 89, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2003. Mela was born August 16, 1913 the daughter of Placido and Emilia Serrano Archuleta in Coyote, New Mexico. Mela came to Rio Rancho from Santa Fe where she had lived for many years. Mela was preceded in death by her husband, Filadelfio Gallegos in 1980. She is survived by her children, Diana Gallegos-Blandford and husband, Neil, Charlene Otero, Tina Ortega and husband, Orlando, Margie Gurule, Richard Gallegos and wife, Dolores, Nelson Gallegos, and Robert Gallegos; sister, Charlotte Valdez; brother, Harold Archuleta; and numerous other relatives. Juzang -- William Joseph Juzang, born February 27, 1928, died July 25, 2003. He is survived by his nine children, Angela Jewell, Wanda Cooper, Guy Juzang, Vicki DeVigne, Maxie Juzang, Ivan Juzang, Tracy Britton, Trina Juzang and William Juzang II; 17 grandchildren, Michael II, Simone and Miles Cooper, Taja and Thomas Jewell, Armand and Joelle DeVigne, Maxie II, Chase, Christian, Jonathan and Lauren Juzang, DeShon, Guielle, Patria and Marisa Juzang, and Clarke Britton; one sister, Betty Juzang; his former wife, Mary Juzang; and close friend and companion, Nymfa Winters; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. William, born in Mobile, Alabama, served 28 years in the Air Force, doing two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant and then worked another 20 years in civil service at Kirtland Air Force Base. A New Mexico resident for over 45 years, William enjoyed flyfishing, cooking and traveling. William was a devout Catholic his entire life. William leaves behind a thriving family who hopes to maintain his incredible work ethic, sense of responsibility and zest for life. Anyone wanting to leave a donation in his name is encouraged to simply take the time to make a positive difference in some child's life or for a memorial contribution, his favorite charities were Southern Poverty Law Center, Salvation Army, NAACP and Disabled American Veterans. Marquez -- Mary G. Marquez Beloved Mother and Grandmother, died Monday, July 28, 2003 at the age of 89. She is survived by three sons, Manuel Marquez and wife, Virginia of Socorro, Harry Marquez and wife, Theresa, and Robert Marquez and wife, Teresa all of Albuquerque; daughter, Ernestine Marquez of Albuquerque; brother, John Garcia and wife, Rosemary of Albuquerque, sister, Margie Romero and husband, Gene of Las Cruces; sister-in-law, Della Benavidez of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great- grandchildren. Special thanks to Rev. Edmundo Rodriguez S.J., Carol Rivera, Teresa San Jose, Gean Horseherder Sarah Carter and Presbyterian Hospice for their support and kind healthcare given to Mrs. Marquez. Moseley -- Nellie Hazel Moseley, 93, a resident of New Mexico since 1928, died Sunday, July 27, 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Doris Morris and husband, J. C., of Edgewood; son, Orris H. Moseley and wife, Audrey of Albuquerque; daughter Gwen Van Doren of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Gayland, Mike, Pat and Bill Morris, Joyce Sweeney, Nell Prekker, and Jerri Rose, David, Gary and Kevin Van Doren; 22 great- grandchildren; 11 great- great- grandchildren; sisters, Leona Stark and Freda McDowell; brother, Roy Moseley and wife, Ruby; sisters-in-law, Ada Moseley and Doris Moseley and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Moseley was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Herman I Moseley in 1996, grandsons Joe Morris and Larry Don Van Doren; brothers, Don Moseley, Okle Moseley and Bunyan Moseley, and son-in-law, LeRoy Van Doren. She was a member of Fruit Avenue Baptist Church for many years and a member of Homemakers Home Extension Club. Nellie settled with her family and helped pioneer the Estancia Valley. She spent many years in Albuquerque working side by side with her husband. Owen -- Cody William Owen, 12, a resident of Los Lunas, passed on to our heavenly father Saturday, July 26, 2003. He is survived by his loving parents, Bill Owen and wife, Judy of Albuquerque and mother, Janette D. Owen of Los Lunas; sisters, Brandi Owen of Los Lunas and Michelle Jellison of Germany; grandparents, William and Verda Owen and Leroy and Maxine Schneider; aunts and uncles, Kathy and Larry Hau, Jim and Cindy Schneider, Gary and Kim Schneider, and Sandi and Tim Devine; three nephews and one niece; and many friends from Los Lunas. Cody loved baseball and played first base. He also loved basketball, loved riding horses and swimming. Cody attended R.G.I. in Los Lunas and was going to be starting Los Lunas Middle School in the fall. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them. He was the UNO Champ among his family. Rockhold -- Sarah Jane Rockhold was born February 15, 1937 in Bryan, Ohio to Margaret"Peg" Crawford and H. Merrill Shaeffer. She went Home on July 25, 2003. Sarah was a community volunteer, and firearms activist, most recently testifying for concealed carry at the New Mexico Legislature. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for both sons, Team Follower for YAFL, and traveled many miles to cheer both sons while they participated in Belen High School sports. As a Benefactor Member of the National Rifle Association, she carried her interest in youth and gun safety forward by becoming the New Mexico Coordinator of the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program. During the last ten years she brought the simple 4 point gun safety message,"Stop, Don't Touch, Leave the Area, and Tell an Adult", to almost 300,000 elementary age children in the state. Her favorite movie was"The Cowboys" starring John Wayne. She attended Ohio State University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She subsequently graduated from the College of Santa Fe with a Bachelors Degree in Managerial Psychology and retired from Valley Improvement Association as Director of Safety and Security after 21 years. Earlier this month she and her husband, Paul returned from a mission trip to Peru with Calvary Chapel of Rio Grande Valley where she assisted with Bible School in a jungle community. She is survived by her husband Paul of 46 years; sons, Greg and wife, Debbie, John and wife, Judy; grandchildren, Tiffany, Jennifer, Jordan, Zachary, and Trevor Rockhold all of Albuquerque; sisters, Marilyn Martin (Frank), Ruth Ann Lare; sister-in-Iaw, Judy Davis (Tom) all of Ohio, and many other friends from Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley, Pilot International, the National Rifle Association, and the Belen Community that loved and will miss her. Sprague -- Stephen John Eugene Sprague was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on October 14, 1941 and died at home in Albuquerque on July 25, 2003 of complications from meningitis. Steve was preceded in death by his son, Stryker Wonder; and his father, Marshall Sprague, a noted Western historian. He is survived by his mother, Edna Jane Ailes Sprague; wife, Jane Catherwood Sprague; daughter, Edna Frances Sprague; brother, Joseph Taylor Sprague and wife, Linda B. Sprague; niece, Susanna Jane Sprague; sister, Sharon H. Sprague and husband, Bob Lee, all of Albuquerque. After graduation from The Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville New Jersey, Steve received a B.A. from Colorado College, Colorado Springs Colorado in 1964, and a J.D. from the University of New Mexico Law School in 1969. As a lawyer, Steve was compassionately dedicated to his clients in all aspects of his legal work, be it public interest or private practice. He worked for New Mexico Legal Aid, Colorado Rural Legal Services, the NM Department of Health and Human Services - Children, Youth & Families, United Farm Worker's Union, to name a few, and at the time of his death, was a partner at the family law firm of Atkinson & Kelsey, PA. Steve was also instrumental in organizing the Inn of Courts & Albuquerque Arts Alliance. He was a member of the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association and was licensed to practice law in the states of New Mexico and Colorado. Steve was a beekeeper, a hockey player, fly fisherman, tap dancer, and piano player. He practiced Tai Chi for 25 years, read Plato with his friends, and had a deep appreciation for art, poetry, music, and theatre. He was also active in his community serving on several community boards and committees, including Serendipity Day School, Friends of the Rio Grande Nature Center, the Cesar Chavez Recuerdo Committee, the New Mexico & Albuquerque Mediation Associations and was a Vestry member at St Michael and All Angels Church in the North Valley. Steve had a great sense of humor, an inquisitive mind, a spiritual heart, and was adept in the art of rock & roll dancing. He loved life and the people around him - no matter their walk. Steve was a teacher and listener and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank everyone for their support during this time. Vigil -- Joseph Michael (Joey) Vigil, 49, born November 18, 1953 in Albuquerque passed away on July 27, 2003. Joey is the beloved son to his mother, Mrs. Adela Cooke and to his father, Ruben Vigil and companion, Cecilia Lopez. Joey is also survived by his girlfriend, Brenda Joyce; two sisters, Bonnie Vigil and boyfriend, Orlando Barros, Rita Padilla and husband, Tomas; two nieces, Dana Bounds and Debi Bounds; one nephew, Chris Roudabush; one great- niece, Azure Robbins; many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Joey was a member of the Catholic Church. Joey graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1971. Joey received a bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University, a Master's from the University of New Mexico and a Master's from Harvard University. Joey completed his doctorate from Harvard University. Joey was very outgoing and loved working with children. Joey enjoyed playing basketball and running with his dad. Joey was very devoted to his family especially to his father and mother whom he met with every Sunday for breakfast. Education of children was his main priority in his life. A visitation for Joey will be Tuesday evening after 6:30 p.m. at Rio Grande High School, in the Gymnasium, 2300 Arenal SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Anita Martinez. A final Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father Roberto Frenzl. West -- Kenneth West, devoted husband and beloved father, passed away at home on Friday, July 25, 2003. He was a safety engineer for the Air Force for 26 years and worked at Kirtland AFB before his retirement in 1994. He was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna West and by his three daughters, Kristi West, Lorna Willard, and Jodi Pierce. Winters -- Virginia"Ginny" C. Winters passed on July 27, 2003 born November 14, 1925 to Elsie Christian Cruts and Raymond Milton Cruts in Perry, Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband, Leonard O. Winters; son, George Michael Winters and wife, Veronica of Derby, Kansas; daughter, Mary Winters Morse and husband, Ted of Placitas, New Mexico; one grandson, George Michael Winters, Jr. and wife, Julie of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; close family friend, Blanche Williams. She taught Sunday school at the First Methodist Church in Perry Oklahoma for 20 years, was a Unity student, a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and an active member of The Meadows Homeowners Association.
