Rockhold -- Sarah Jane Rockhold was born February 15, 1937 in Bryan, Ohio to Margaret"Peg" Crawford and H. Merrill Shaeffer. She went Home on July 25, 2003. Sarah was a community volunteer, and firearms activist, most recently testifying for concealed carry at the New Mexico Legislature. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for both sons, Team Follower for YAFL, and traveled many miles to cheer both sons while they participated in Belen High School sports. As a Benefactor Member of the National Rifle Association, she carried her interest in youth and gun safety forward by becoming the New Mexico Coordinator of the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program. During the last ten years she brought the simple 4 point gun safety message,"Stop, Don't Touch, Leave the Area, and Tell an Adult", to almost 300,000 elementary age children in the state. Her favorite movie was"The Cowboys" starring John Wayne. She attended Ohio State University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She subsequently graduated from the College of Santa Fe with a Bachelors Degree in Managerial Psychology and retired from Valley Improvement Association as Director of Safety and Security after 21 years. Earlier this month she and her husband, Paul returned from a mission trip to Peru with Calvary Chapel of Rio Grande Valley where she assisted with Bible School in a jungle community. She is survived by her husband Paul of 46 years; sons, Greg and wife, Debbie, John and wife, Judy; grandchildren, Tiffany, Jennifer, Jordan, Zachary, and Trevor Rockhold all of Albuquerque; sisters, Marilyn Martin (Frank), Ruth Ann Lare; sister-in-Iaw, Judy Davis (Tom) all of Ohio, and many other friends from Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley, Pilot International, the National Rifle Association, and the Belen Community that loved and will miss her. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Chapel of the Rio Grande Valley in Belen, NM., on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be sent to the Pilots International Foundation, PO.
