Armstrong -- Laurel Faye Armstrong, 73, of Cerrillos, New Mexico passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003. Laurel beat cancer for over two years and finally succumbed to complications from a July 16, 2003 stroke. She was born March 17, 1930 in Fremont Michigan, the lively youngest child of Lloyd and Marjorie Osborn; her four sisters called her Lolly. Known as Laurie as she went through school, she met her future husband, Major Bernard Armstrong, USAF (Ret) through one of her sisters. Following several military sponsored moves, the couple settled in New Mexico, where Laurie grew to love the landscape so different from that in Michigan. She was an avid gardener and birdwatcher, growing beautiful gardens full of blossoms and hummingbirds. For the past 30 years she also devoted much of her time to genealogy, and traced her family roots back to William the Conqueror. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bernard; sons, Lon and Blane; daughter, Mary Lee; six grandchildren, Ethan Armstrong, Miriam Armstrong, Kaleena Armstrong, Aaron Medina, Amber Medina, and Rebecca Armstrong; and her sisters, Ival Carne, Ona Orr, and Phyllis Hollowell. She is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Ruth Nyson. Cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Johns United Methodist Church in Santa Fe on July 29, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
