Obituary for Vigil

Joseph Michael (Joey) Vigil, 49, born November 18, 1953 in Albuquerque passed away on July 27, 2003. Joey is the beloved son to his mother, Mrs. Adela Cooke and to his father, Ruben Vigil and companion, Cecilia Lopez. Joey is also survived by his girlfriend, Brenda Joyce; two sisters, Bonnie Vigil and boyfriend, Orlando Barros, Rita Padilla and husband, Tomas; two nieces, Dana Bounds and Debi Bounds; one nephew, Chris Roudabush; one great- niece, Azure Robbins; many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Joey was a member of the Catholic Church. Joey graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1971. Joey received a bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University, a Master's from the University of New Mexico and a Master's from Harvard University. Joey completed his doctorate from Harvard University. Joey was very outgoing and loved working with children. Joey enjoyed playing basketball and running with his dad. Joey was very devoted to his family especially to his father and mother whom he met with every Sunday for breakfast. Education of children was his main priority in his life. A visitation for Joey will be Tuesday evening after 6:30 p.m. at Rio Grande High School, in the Gymnasium, 2300 Arenal SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Anita Martinez. A final Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father Roberto Frenzl. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Sanchez, Richard Casuas, Tomas Padilla, Chad Joyce, Chris Roudabush and Orlando Barros. Honorary pallbearer will be his father, Ruben Vigil. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Albuquerque Public Schools and the Special Education Department.
