Maria"Mela" Manuelita Gallegos, 89, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2003. Mela was born August 16, 1913 the daughter of Placido and Emilia Serrano Archuleta in Coyote, New Mexico. Mela came to Rio Rancho from Santa Fe where she had lived for many years. Mela was preceded in death by her husband, Filadelfio Gallegos in 1980. She is survived by her children, Diana Gallegos-Blandford and husband, Neil, Charlene Otero, Tina Ortega and husband, Orlando, Margie Gurule, Richard Gallegos and wife, Dolores, Nelson Gallegos, and Robert Gallegos; sister, Charlotte Valdez; brother, Harold Archuleta; and numerous other relatives. The Visitation for Mela will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 31, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho.
