Apodaca -- Johnny M."Shorty" Apodaca, 50, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 8, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughter, Kendra Drane, both of Albuquerque; brother, Joe Newstrom and wife, Inez, of Corona, CA; sisters, Connie Apodaca and Marleen Apodaca, both of Albuquerque, Adeline Apodaca, of Gardena, CA, and Anna Mae Apodaca of Albuquerque; Godson, Cael John Paul Apodaca of Albuquerque, and many other aunts, uncles, loving family members, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Pauline Apodaca and sister, Mary Lee. The joy in his life was spending time with his family whom he cherished. He also loved to play baseball and basketball and was loyal DallasCowboys Fan. He had a big heart and enjoyed helping people recently becoming a substance abuse counselor. Barnes -- Erna H. Barnes, age 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946 died March 11, 2003. Survivors include her husband, Chester (Chet) Barnes of Albuquerque; daughter, Erna Lee Widgren and husband, Robert of Albuquerque; son, Richard Barnes and wife, Sherry of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Sheila Lee and husband, Mark of Illinois. The family wishes to extend a thank you to the staff at Manor Care Camino Vista and Lovelace Hospice. A special thank you to Johnny Rich for his support. Bradley -- Richard Charles Bradley passed away on Friday, March 7, 2003 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born January 28, 1937 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Mary and Michael Buchovecky. He is survived by Irene Bradley and their daughters, Jan and husband, Mark Guthrie of Augusta, Georgia, Sandra and husband, Mark Reeves of Alamogordo, NM, Lori and husband, Fred Medina of Rio Rancho; and six grandchildren. Richard is also survived by one sister, Irene Petersen of Scottsdale, Arizona. Richard served in the United States Navy from 1955 through 1959 on the U.S.S. Des Moines. He received a BS degree at Arizona State University. Richard has worked as a Computer Programmer/Systems Analyst for a variety of large corporations. He was also an instructor of computer programming at several colleges in the Southwest. Richard enjoyed traveling and visiting various landmarks. He was a loving father and enjoyed his grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at the Albuquerque Bible Church, 320 Montano NW. Chavez -- Patrick Chavez, 47, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 7, 2003. Pat was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish, hunt, camp and boat. He was an esteemed businessman with a zest for life and lived everyday to its fullest--he touched the lives of all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Chavez; and children, son, Patrick Chavez, Jr., daughters, Beverly Cruz and husband, Zenon Cruz, and¯Jennifer Chavez and fiance, Timothy Lucero; his mother,¯Helen Chavez; brothers, Alex Chavez and wife, Annette, Delbert Chavez and wife, Rita, Damen Chavez and wife, Christine; numerous nieces and nephews. Clark -- Aubrey"Sugar" Clark, 84 a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, passed away on March 10, 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Hodges and husband, Ken of Albuquerque; three nieces, Iris Manes and husband, Archie, Sharon Smith and husband, Gerald and, Audrey Louise Anderson; three nephews, Charles Hayes and wife, Iris, Lee Hayes and Michael Kuehn and wife, Sharla. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Paul E. Clark; five brothers; and four sisters. Aubrey had a competitive spirit and she was an avid golfer, bowler and loved to play cards. Cook -- Mary Ellen Cook, 89, a longtime Amarillo, TX resident died Sunday, March 9, 2003. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, Amarillo, TX. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery, Amarillo. Throughout her life, Mary Ellen was a strong Christian who set a loving example to her children and grandchildren. They will always remember her singing and beautiful smile. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 27, 1965. Dominguez -- Joaquin Dominguez, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, on the early morning of Tuesday, March 11, 2003. Joaquin was a resident of Bernalillo. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lena Dominguez of the family home; his children, Barbara Maestas and husband, Donald, Gerry Gleason and husband, Gary, and Greg Dominguez and wife, Kim; nine grandchildren, Jack and Donna Maestas, Michael, Wendy and Amy Gleason, Janan, Jeremy, Jordon and Michael Dominguez; two great-grandchildren, Patrick Nasworthy and Madison Bianco. Also surviving are two brothers, Dan Dominguez and wife Chana, Serafin Dominguez and wife, Dolores; three sisters, Cerilia Salas and husband, Eustaqio, Susie Chavez and Cindy Dominguez; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joaquin will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Doyle -- Josephine Messina (Sciarrotta) Doyle 73, passed away Sunday morning, March 9, 2003 at home after a valiant battle against cancer. She will be remembered for her kind, gentle nature and loved by all whom knew her. An exceptionally devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed. She was a wonderful cook and her great Italian meals were something we all looked forward to. A long time resident of Albuquerque, she was born December 19, 1929 in Trenton, New Jersey to Carmelo and Carmella Messina. She attended Trenton High School and worked at Cordey China and Lee Overalls in Trenton. She attended Beauty Academy in Trenton and pursued a career in Cosmotology. Josie continued her career for many years in Albuquerque as both a teacher and hairdresser. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Peter James Sciarrotta, Sr. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 41 years, Dave L. Doyle, Sr; and her four sons, Philip P. Sciarrotta and wife, Kathy of Corrales, NM, Carm Sciarrotta of Albuquerque, NM, Peter J. Sciarrotta, Jr. and wife, Nina of Knoxville, TN, and David L. Doyle, Jr. and wife, Erin of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Messina and wife, Anna Mae of Trenton, NJ; her sisters, Marie Moceri and husband, John of West Palm Beach, FL and Frances Severino and husband, Carm of Trenton, NJ; sister-in-law, Chicky Cammiso of Yardley, PA; and her aunts, Helen Sizemore of Trenton, NJ and Alice Musterel of Pamona, NJ. She has nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Emarine -- Mare (Mary) A. Emarine, 63, a resident of Albuquerque for¯ 26 years, died March 8, 2003 at the family home, after an extraordinarily courageous five year battle against ovarian cancer. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Larry Emarine; sons, Jeffrey Emarine and wife, Laura of Carlsbad, NM, Michael Emarine and wife, Tracey of Silver City, NM; and grandchildren, Chelsea, Joshua, and Hannah. She was preceded in death by her mother, Adele Karolin and her grandmother, Pauline Krabu. Mare was born on May 9, 1939 in Tallin, Estonia. Mare, her mother and grandmother survived the German and Russian invasions and occupation of Estonia during WWII only to be deported to Germany. In Germany, they were placed in a concentration camp where Mare's mother was a forced Laborer in a Nazi Defense Factory. In 1945, the U.S. Army liberated the family. In 1949, they emigrated to the U.S. and settled in San Pedro, CA. The family arrived in the U.S. with two suitcases, a knapsack containing bedding and Mare's Teddy Bear. Mare resided in San Pedro until 1965 when she and Larry married. She attended San Pedro High School and Long Beach State University. Prior to being married, she worked at the Los Angeles County City Attorney's Office in San Pedro. Mare was a dedicated military wife from 1965 to 1988 while her husband was in the U.S. Navy. They were stationed in Long Beach, CA, Yokosuka, Japan, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Washington DC, and Albuquerque, NM. Mare was an Avon Sales representative for 15 years and loved the job primarily because many of her customers became good friends over the years. Some of her favorite activities were reading, music, plays, gourmet cooking, lunches with friends, and spending time with her sons and their families. Mare loved her many friends from her garden club, water aerobics class, and her neighborhood. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who raised two wonderful and successful sons. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and administrative personnel of the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center, UNM Hospital, and University Hospice for their outstanding care, compassion and assistance during Mare's struggle with cancer. Services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2003, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, Col. USAF. (Ret). You two were so much of the beautiful things in our lives. The pain we feel from the yearning of needing you pierces our hearts. Gabaldon -- Pete S. Gabaldon, 66, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Belen, New Mexico passed away on March 11, 2003. Mr. Gabaldon is survived by one son, Danny J. Garcia -- Dora Lorraine Garcia, 45, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on March 10, 2003. Dora is the beloved daughter to Dolores Garcia and Cayetano Garcia and wife, Victoria. Dora is also survived by one sister, Loretta Barreras; three brothers, Robert Gonzales and wife, Lena, Charles Garcia and wife, Barbara, Rod Garcia and wife, Ruby; three step-sisters, Gloria Martinez and husband, Lupe, Rita Camarrillo and husband, Teodoro and Tommy Chavez; one step-brother, Paul Baca; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dora was preceded in death by a step-brother, Jose Louie Baca. Dora was employed at Atrisco Elementary School for 22 years and very active at her church, Victory Love Fellowship. Giron -- Dolores E. Giron, 88, a resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years, went to her final rest on Monday, March 10, 2003 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Giron; daughter, Evelyn; her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Julian J. Cordova; two brothers, Pascual and Julian Cordova. Dolores is survived by her grandson, Randel Markey; granddaughter, Elaine D. Grienfinger; sister-in-law, Mary Giron of Polvadera, NM; sisters, Fannie Maestas of Bernalillo, Carmelita Aragon and husband Pablo; brothers, Emilio S. Cordova and wife, Pablita of Cuba, NM, Joe M. Cordova and wife Susan, Paul Cordova and wife, Bea of Albuquerque and Onofre Cordova and wife, Marty of Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews. She was born on December 30, 1914 in Cuba, NM. Dolores graduated from Menaul High School and the University of New Mexico. She was an educator in several schools in New Mexico. Dolores was a former member of Second Presbyterian Church and was a current member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Humbert -- Walter Humbert, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1995, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2003, after a courageous battle with A.L.S. Walter was born in Mineral Point, WI on August 7, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mildred Humbert; a sister, Joan; a brother, Duane; and a son, Scott. He is survived by his wife, Alice; three sons, Jeff and his wife, Diane, and Charles, all of Albuquerque and Steve and his wife, Jackie of Pewaukee, WI; three grandsons, Eric and his wife, Addie, Marc and Kyrc, all of Pewaukee, WI; two granddaughters, Penny Mitchell and husband, Rob and Bobbie Rivers, all of Albuquerque; a great-grandson, Justin; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis. Walter loved his family and friends and was always happy to help others. He especially enjoyed remodeling and refurbishing homes. Morphew -- Michael Zane Morphew, born July 11, 1942 in Albuquerque, NM left this world Sunday morning March 9, 2003 at his daughter's home. He is survived by his daughter Jane and her husband David Stauffer, and best buddies since childhood, Dick Stong and Ron Richards. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard"Dicky" Morphew. Mike graduated from Valley H S. in 1960. His favorite years were spent in the Marine Corps from 1960-64 where he was trained in radio telegraph operations as an artillery spotter and traveled the world. He was honorably discharged Corporal E-4 in 1966. He graduated from the Drafting Technology program at TVI in 1970 and with a Bachelor of University Studies from UNM in 1977. For most of his career he was a civil draftsman. Upon his diagnosis of lung cancer he had been employed with Bohannan - Huston Inc. for 12 years. To everyone at BHI, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I'm sorry there wasn't more contact. Dad was very stoic and private and didn't want to be fussed over. His ashes will be scattered in the Pecos mountains to roam with Dicky and the rest of the Zummach clan. I love you dad. I'm going to miss my movie buddy. Patrick -- Jerry L. Patrick, 48, went to be with our Lord on Saturday March 8, 2003. He was a graduate of Sandia High School Class of 1973, and went on to Electronics School in Phoenix. He was in sales for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer P. Patrick; and a brother, Howard L. Patrick. Jerry is survived by his wife, Diane of Rio Rancho; his son, Jeremy Patrick of Edgewood, NM; his mother, Betty Patrick of Los Lunas; and his nephews, Sean Shipman of Albuquerque, and Tim Shipman of Fredricksburg, Texas. Phillips -- Jack L. Phillips, 68, passed away unexpectedly on March 6, 2003. Jack had been a resident of Farmington, NM since 1969. He is survived by his wife, GeorgiAnna of the family home in Farmington; daughter, Gina and husband, Steve Upton; their daughters, BryAnna and Kaiya; daughter, Danielle and husband, Pat Denney; their children, Hope, Austin and Joseph all of Farmington; son, Clyde Norton and wife, Judy of Aurora CO; son, Jimmy Norton of Oklahoma; and three daughters by a previous marriage. Schwartzberg -- Stanley Schwartzberg, 68, a resident of Albuquerque for 23 years, died Monday, March 10, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Leona Schwartzberg of Albuquerque; sons, Jay Schwartzberg of Albuquerque and Mitchell Schwartzberg of Houston, TX; and sisters, Renee Goldstein of Virginia and Sharon Markman of California. Mr. Schwartzberg served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He has continued to serve his communities helping as a volunteer fireman for the Oceanside Fire Department in New York for over 12 years. He volunteered for over six years with the ¯Neighborhood Watch¯ in Heritage Hills where he opened and closed Ventura Park every morning and evening. Mr. Schwartzberg retired from the University of New Mexico Physical Plant after 20 years of service. Swingle -- Patricia Swingle, 72, passed away at home on Sunday, March 9, 2003. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Pat was an active volunteer for the Democratic Party and a constant recruiter. Her family and friends knew her as a"free spirit", a great cook and a champion of the underdog. Her selfless nature was so genuine and was cherished by all who knew her. Pat was born in Zanesville, Ohio on November 2, 1930. She met and married Bill Swingle in Zanesville in 1948 and they moved to Albuquerque in 1952. Pat is preceded in death by her father, Palice Pendley and is survived by her mother, Dorothy Pendley; her husband, Bill Swingle; her brother, Jerry Pendley and Karen, her children, Cindy Sterns, Debbie Rose and husband, Allan, Steve Swingle and wife, Kathy, Becki Lorimer and husband, Tom, Bruce Swingle and wife, Rene, Melinda Wieser; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ulibarri -- Joe Alonzo Ulibarri, 68, of The Woodlands, TX passed away March 8, 2003. Joe was born January 19, 1935 in Terreros, NM to Luciano and Adela Ulibarri. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1954-1960. Joe worked as a Civil Servant Employee, as a Communications Supervisor for 28 years, serving in California and Virginia before retiring to The Woodlands, TX in 1988.
