Candelaria -- Nicholas"Nick" Candelaria, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1974, died Monday, June 14, 1999. He is survived by his sons, Robert D. Candelaria and wife, Mollie of Tucson, AZ and Albert Candelaria of Lakewood, CA; daughters, Marcella LeFlore and husband, Virgil of Bosque Farms and Estella Garcia and husband, Napoleon of Albuquerque; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Charlotta Lovato and husband, Saturnino and Anne Smail, all of Albuquerque; and brother, E.E. Tim Candelaria and wife, Evelyn of Las Vegas, NV. Mr. Candelaria was preceded in death by his wife, Terrie Candelaria. He attended Mountainair High School; graduated from El Rito Normal School; graduated from St. Joseph's College on the Rio Grande; received his Master's degree from Eastern New Mexico University and completed course work towards a Doctorate. During WWII, Mr. Candelaria moved to Tucson to work in the defense industry. Mr. Candelaria was an educator for 40 years, teaching in classes from one room school houses to Universities. He was inducted into the New Mexico Teachers Hall of Fame. Mr. Candelaria briefly worked as the Torrance County Assessor. He was a published author, writing primarily about Spanish tradition, proverbs and culture. Mr. Candelaria was a former member of Our Lady of Sorrows in Manzano, NM and had currently been a member of St. Therese Little Flower Church in Albuquerque. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His greatest joy was teaching and was most happy when"his" students achieved a higher education and when they became good upstanding and successful members of their communities. Rosary will be recited Thursday, 7:30 p.m., at St. Therese Little Flower Church, 300 Mildred NW, with Mollie Candelaria reciting. Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10:00 a.m., at St. Therese Little Flower Church with Father Lazaro Cuesta S.F. and Father John R. Rebold, Celebrants. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Candelaria, Mark Candelaria, Roland Candelaria, Clinton Garcia, Thaddeus LeFlore, Charles Candelaria, Vincent Candelaria and Christopher Candelaria. Carpenter -- Fred W. Carpenter, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1936, died Saturday, June 12, 199. He is survived by his son, Keith Carpenter and wife, Toni of Placitas; daughters, Gail Ritchie and husband, Jim of Atascadero, CA and Christine Carpenter of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Terry Green and husband, Dave of Somerset, CA, Cathy McRory and husband, Larry of San Angelo, TX and Kim Carpenter of Placitas; grandson, Bill Ritchie and wife, Becky of Atascadero, CA; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Carpenter worked 31 yeas for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and served as Acting State Supervisor at the time of his retirement in 1972. Doty -- Martha Gene (Davis) Doty, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, June 13, 1999. She is survived by her daughters, Kay (Doty) Deshler and husband, Lawrence of Albuquerque and Ruth (Doty) Castagno and husband, Cesar of Orange Co., CA; five grandchildren, Jonathan and Brandon Deshler, J.D., Jeremy and Meghan Castagno; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Harold A. Doty. She was an osteopathic physician before she retired to become a devoted mother and grandmother. Gillard -- Harold Steve Gillard, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on June 12, 1999 at the age of 72. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and the Mountain Bell Telephone Company. Dad loved fishing, and loved his family very much. He will be greatly missed. Harold is survived by his wife, Ellen Elizabeth Gillard; daughters, Jody Evans and Gina Gillard and Randy; sons, Gary L. Gillard and Loretta, and Steve Gillard and wife, Sharon; sister, Vivian Munden; brother, Gary W. Gillard and wife, Dayle; grandchildren, Jessica, Miles, Piper, and Justin; nephew, Terry Munden and wife, Cindy. He is also survived by other loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Groogan -- Kenneth Jerome Groogan, he left us too soon - but we are grateful for the love and laughter he shared so willing while with us. Kenneth left this world, Saturday, June 12, 1999. Born July 26, 1967 in Houston, and reared in Texas, he was a graduate of J.W. Nixon High School in Laredo. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Desert Storm Conflict and returned to civilian life as a Cardiac Technician and Caregiver. His compassion and skill will be missed by countless patients and co-workers at the New Mexico Heart Institute. Sharing their loss will be dear friends at the Laughing Lizard, Jemez Springs, where Kenneth shared his love of cooking. An avid sportsman, he loved good music, good conversation, and good friends to share them with. He is survived by his two sons, Austin Groogan of Jemez Springs and Preston Groogan of Anchorage, AK; parents, William and Shereen Groogan of Wenatchee, WA; sisters, Elizabeth Gutierrez and Kathryn Gonzalez of Laredo, TX; brother, Greg Groogan of Cleveland Heights, OH. Hernandez -- Ray George Hernandez went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 14, 1999, longtime resident of Albuquerque. Mr. Hernandez was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, after graduating from high school he attended North Eastern, Denver University, UCLA, and TVI. Pursuing education was important to him. He encouraged all, especially the young to continue their education. The doors to both his home and heart were opened to all that came to him for advice and help. Mr. Hernandez is survived by his mother, Corine Andelona; one daughter, Rachael Chavez; one son, George Hernandez; six grandchildren, Santiago, Elijah, Amanda, Marissa Chavez and Jacob, Jeremiah Hernandez; two sisters, Rita Provencher and Carol Morales; one brother, Robert Hernandez; several aunts and uncles; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services are scheduled for 9:00 a.m., June 17, 1999 at Calvary Chapel, 4001 Osuna NE, in Albuquerque.

Kelly -- Ulis B. Kelly, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, passed away June 13, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Kelly of 51 years; two sons, Dr. Robert Kelly and wife, Claudia; granddaughter, Kristin of Albuquerque, David Kelly of Bakers Field, CA; two daughters, Elisabeth Kelly of St. Augustine, FA and Patty Kious of Albuquerque; brother, John L. Kelly and wife, Pauline of Carson City, NV; sister, Geraldine Kennedy and husband, Clifford of West Monroe, LA; and sister-in-law, Opal Kelly. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Victor and Veston Kelly. Mr. Kelly retired from the U.S.A.F. in 1967 with 30 years of service. Loughrey -- Father Bernard H. Loughrey, 82, a resident of Belen, and formerly of Ardmore, PA, passed away on Monday, June 14, 1999. He was the Pastor of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isleta, NM, retiring recently after 14 years of dedicated service to his parishioners. He was ordained in 1942, and had served many communities in New Mexico, including Questa, Ruidoso, Isleta, and Tome. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Margaret Loughrey; one brother, Lt. John J. Loughrey, U.S.M.C., who was killed in action in Tinnian Island in 1944; and two sisters, Rose M. and Marge M. Loughrey. He is survived by two brothers, Charles H. Loughrey of Milwaukee, WI; and father, Thomas F. Loughrey, retired Priest of the Philadelphia Archdiocese, now living in West Wildwood, NJ; two nieces, Mary Eileen Loughrey and Patricia Loughrey, both of Milwaukee, WI; one nephew, John Loughrey and his wife, Cathleen of Scotch Plains, NJ; great-grandnephew, Brendan; and great-grandniece, Maura Loughrey. Father Loughrey is also survived by his housekeeper of many years, Eulalia Bryan of Belen. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isleta, followed by the Funeral Mass at 7:00 p.m. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Lovato -- Mike Lovato, 75, a resident of Bernalillo, passed away Sunday, June 13, 1999. Mike enjoyed carpentry work, going out to the ranch, hunting, and loved to watch wrestling. His parents, Florencita and Delfin Lovato preceded him in death. Montoya -- Celina Montoya, age 89, born on March 6, 1910, passed away to be with the Lord on June 14, 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Theodoro Salazar; second husband, Miguel Montoya; one older brother, Emilano Trujillo; and one grandson, Robert (Bobby) Mata. Celina is survived by four daughters, Dora McCoy and Assencion, Emelda Garcia and husband, John Garcia, Kathy Gurule and husband, Charlie Gurule, Gloria Lovato and Michael Valencia; one older brother, Celio Trujillo; and one sister, Elisida Valdez; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and an active member of the Bernalillo Senior Citizens Center. Moore -- Vernon W. Moore, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999. He is survived by his sons, Victor L. Moore and wife, Mary of Los Lunas, and Howard Hayden of Mountain Home, AR; granddaughters, Leslie Moore of Rio Rancho and Kelli Moore of Corrales; and brother, Travis Moore of Macon, GA. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Bernice Moore. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Mr. Moore retired from Sandia National Labs after 25 years. O'malley -- Mr. James C. O'Malley, 82, passed away on June 12, 1999. He was a man of tremendous spirit. He always had a twinkle in his blue eyes. He was always a gentleman and honored his word. He valued his family as a precious gift. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Virginia I. (Quinn) O'Malley, in 1998. He was the dear father of Rory M. O'Malley and wife, Kathy Bearden, Austin, TX; Brian P. O'Malley, Santa Fe; Sharon K. Giannini and husband, Albert, Albuquerque; Susan J. Killman and husband, Patrick, Houston, TX; and Sheila M. Wendel and husband, Richard, Santa Fe. His grandchildren are Sean, Lee and Alana O'Malley; Matthew and Anna Maria Giannini; Ryan, Keith and Kevin Killman; and Jamie O'Malley. His surviving sisters are Sister Margaret Mary O'Malley, Sparkill, NY; Eileen O'Malley, Ontario, CA; and Theresa Kenefick, Blue Springs, MO. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Henderson and husband, Paul, Richmond, KY and many nieces and nephews. Jim was born in St. Louis, MO. He and Virginia were married there in 1942. They moved to Albuquerque in 1951 and raised their children here. Jim was employed in office management with Arthur Stuart Co. for several years and was then with Presbyterian Hospital for 27 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 1517. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum on Thursday, June 17 at 10:00a.m. with Rev. Pitts -- Donald Stewart Pitts, 71, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, due to complications from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He died peacefully with his family at his side. Mr. Pitts was born December 1, 1927 in Raton, NM. He served in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Pitts sang with the Lads of Enchantment Barber Shop Quartet and he retired from Sandia Labs in 1990, after 37 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Linda Kay Pitts; sons, David Pitts of Albuquerque, Michael Pitts and his wife, Virginia Pitts of Albuquerque, Randy Pitts and his wife, Katja Schlenkermann-Pitts of Germany; daughter, Karen Pitts of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Ana-Lisa and Lars Pitts of Germany; brother, Ed Pitts and his wife, Wanda Pitts of Farmington, NM; and sister-in-law, Bette Lee Wilson of Albuquerque. Stevens -- Robert Louis Stevens, age 65, passed away on June 13, 1999. He was born to Roger Louis Stevens and Jennie Hurley on March 21, 1934 in Denver, Colorado. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Stevens; sons, Scott of Denver, CO, Bill Payne of Belen, Roger Payne of Bernalillo, and Frank Payne of Albuquerque; daughter, Kelly of Denver, CO; one brother, Jay from Denver, CO; five grandchildren and several nephews. Mr. Stevens had lived in Bernalillo for 17 years. He and his wife had a home daycare center for ten years and they cared for over 75 children that the Stevens family considered theirs. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in USMC. Funeral services will be held today, June 16, 1999, at the chapel of Rio Rancho Funeral Home with Rev. Peter Denlea officiating. Entombment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho, NM 87124. Arrangements under the care of Rio Rancho Funeral Home, 891-9192.

Stewart -- Donnie Lee Stewart, age 86, a resident of Albuquerque for 50 years, died June 13, 1999 in a local hospital. Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Edith Stewart of Albuquerque; daughter, Judi Abernathy of Albuquerque; sisters, Estella Barrett of California and Rella Soloninka of Arizona; brother, Obert Stewart of California; grandchildren, Traci Tiley of Albuquerque and Donnie G. Stewart of Arizona. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary with Pastor Eddie Howard officiating. Traci Tiley, Donnie G. Stewart, Wayne Gallegos, Rick Gallegos, Dominic Gallegos, Chris Gallegos will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd. SE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 216 Truman NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, in charge of arrangements.
