Bay -- Anthony Fong Bay, 80, died Wednesday, February 3, 1999. He was a devoted husband and loving father of eight children, four boys and four girls. He is survived by all his children and ten grandchildren. His wife of 39 years, Ancilla, passed away in 1993. Mr. Bay was born in a small farming village in Northern China in 1918, graduated from Beijing University, and became a war correspondent after the Japanese invaded China. He later joined the Nationalist Chinese Army, rose to the rank of Secretary General of the Twentieth Army, and fought against the Japanese in China and Burma during World War II. After the war he came to the United States, where he obtained graduate degrees from the Universities of Tennessee and Wisconsin. He then worked as a civilian for the U.S. Air Force for 27 years. Following his retirement in 1983, he devoted his life to writing, which included short stories, his memoirs, and translating a work on the life of Saint Eugene de Mazenod, founder of the Oblate Order, from English to Chinese. He also helped found the New Mexico Chinese Association and was a devout parishioner of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. Brown -- Annie Paralee Brown, 91, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, February 1, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Earnest T. Benjamin and wife, Joyce of Albuquerque and Fezell Benjamin and wife, Vivian Faye of Colorado Springs, CO; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gustavia Jefferson of Hub, MS, Eather Breland of Louisiana, and Leola Jennings of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her son, Burnest Benjamin; and daughter, Amma Lee Fairley. Buxton -- Margaret L. Buxton, 74, beloved wife of Robert J. Buxton and daughter of Robert and Margaret Hook, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 3, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert of the family home; their children, Jim Buxton and wife, Debbie of Phoenix, AZ, Larry Buxton and wife, Barbara, and Lucy Daniels and husband, Mike, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Seth and Camron Buxton, Nicholas and Cindy Brown, and Justin Daniels; great-grandchildren, Bailey Buxton, and Curtis, Cody and Madisen Brown; and dear brother-in-law, Charles Buxton of Albuquerque. Mrs. Buxton was born on August 2, 1924 in Cleveland, OH. She moved to New York where she attended Pratt Art Institute. She then attended Ohio Wesleyan University where she was tutored in chemistry by her future husband, Robert. They moved to Albuquerque in April 1959. She pursued painting and writing for much of her life. Margaret worked as a volunteer librarian and genealogist at the LDS Library in Albuquerque where she researched the histories of many families. She was a published author, a poet, a painter and a John Powers model. Margaret was a member of the Sierra Club, and of the Friends Church. She was an honored member of the Hispanic Genealogical Research Center of NM, and the NM Archaeological Association. She has left her distinguished mark on many people in many places. Her accomplished career in genealogy sparked a desire in many of her friends to pursue their own pasts. Her own familial research took her to Ireland, Scotland, and England. She was beloved by her family and friends. A pillar of strength, dignity, and courage. She was a flame of inspiration and quiet passion. She will be forever missed and revered. Chavez -- James"Bito" Chavez, 68, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother was called home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 2, 1999. He was born on December 8, 1930 in Albuquerque, NM, to Juan and Julia Chavez; he was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; he was a 1950 graduate of St. Mary's High School; he was a star basketball player in High School under Coach Babe Parrentti; Mr. Chavez retired as a Composites Fabricator from General Electric. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Bessie Chavez of the family home; sons, Randy Chavez, Kenneth Mark Chavez and wife, Marian, Adam Chavez and wife, Maria, all of Albuquerque; daughters, Cynthia Candelaria, and Susan R. Chavez Lopez both of Albuquerque; two brothers, Robert Chavez and wife, Della, Pat Chavez and wife, Susan, David Lee Chavez and wife, Viola, both of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Chavez and wife, Della, Pat Chavez and wife, Susan David Lee Chavez and wife, Viola; sisters, Priscilla Torres and Bernadine Chavez; and his mother-in-law, Ricarlda Maez, also of Albuquerque. Clark -- Lillian E. Clark, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1928, died Monday, Feburary 1, 1999. She is survived by her daughters, LouAnn Osborne and husband, Victor of Phoenix, AZ and Nadine Nelson of Rio Rancho; son, Owen (Tony) Clark and wife, Diana of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, O.D. Clark; three brothers; and one sister. She loved people, gardening and playing cards. Mrs. Clark played cards with the same group of friends for 40 years. Crist -- Dorothy M. Crist, 95 years old, a 30 year resident of Albuquerque, having most recently lived at La Vida Llena for the past twelve years, passed away on Monday, February 1, 1999. She is survived by her son, Robert and his wife, Linda of Leawood, KS; two grandsons, David Crist of Deerfield, IL, and Jason Crist of Bethesda, MD; five great-grandchildren, Marie, Ellie and Harrison, who are David's children, and Olivia and Helena, who are Jason's children; sister-in-law, Patricia Eilers of San Luis Obispo, CA; and niece, Dorothy. Mrs. Crist was a graduate of The University of New Mexico and a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Eich -- Norbert J. Eich, 90, of Las Cruces and formerly of Albuquerque/Placitas entered eternal life Sunday, January 31, 1999 at Casa De Oro Center. He was born June 6, 1908 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Anton and Agnes Czischowski Eich. Mr. Eich retired as an electrical engineer from Sandia Corporation. He was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies in Santa Fe, National Sojourners in Albuquerque, Sandoval Lodge #76 AF & M in Rio Rancho, Mesa Lodge #68 AF & M in Albuquerque, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Enchantment Council #21 - Knight Masons in Albuquerque, Estancia Lodge #33 AF & M and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Survivors include one son, Norbert P. Eich of Las Cruces; one daughter, Betty Middleton of West Chester, PA; one brother, Hugo Eich of Inverness, FL; other survivors include six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Dorothy Eich on June 23, 1966. At Mr. Eich's request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Monday, February 8, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in Masonic Lodge #76 in Rio Rancho. Inurnment of cremains will take place Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in Santa Fe National Cemetery. Fickas -- Rufus Fickas, 69, passed away February 3, 1999. He enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Solo Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adelia Fickas. He is survived by children, Taryn and Chad Fickus, Tamra Oillinger, Terice LaPatra; grandchildren, Cassady, Chad Jr., Natasha, Garrett; sisters, Lynette Wilson and Laverne Raising. Gagné -- Conrad Norman Charles Gagné was born January 11, 1912 in St. Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec, Canada. He died at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 29, 1999. Conrad's parents were Francis Joseph Gagné and Jennie Roy Gagné. His mother's family founded Roy, New Mexico. An older brother, Leroy Gagné, died in childhood. Ruth Cayton Gagné, his wife of fifty four years, died in 1994. A younger brother, Roland J. Gagné and his wife, Stasia of Nashua, New Hampshire survive. Also surviving are his daughter, Nancy S. Gagné and his son, Norman L. Gagné and his wife, Jane, all of Albuquerque, and grandsons, Andrew Darren Gagné and his wife, Alyssa Tomoff of Seattle, Washington, and Matthew Norman Gagné of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Conrad came to the United States at the age of nine. He spoke only French. His formal education ended in the ninth grade. As a young teenager, he worked as a cabin boy on a ferry boat on Lake George in upstate New York. At the age of seventeen, he began work as an office boy for Aetna Casualty & Surety Company in Hartford, Connecticut and retired forty-three years later as Controller of the Denver Regional Office of Aetna. Conrad and Ruth raised their children in Westminster, Colorado. In the 1950's he served on the Westminster City Council and as acting Mayor. He served in other community activities there, including working with the volunteer sheriff's patrol and the rescue unit. He was a longtime Mason and was Master of Westminster Lodge #176 AF&AM. Conrad was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Army Finance Corps in England before the Normandy invasion and in France afterward. Following his retirement, Conrad and Ruth lived in Ft. Myers, Florida and Hendersonville, North Carolina before settling in Albuquerque to be with their children and grandsons. In Albuquerque, Conrad proudly served as a volunteer at Presbyterian Hospital, working at the Information Desk with his friends and especially with his regular partner and best friend, Max Smith. During the last six months, Conrad lived at The Grand Court, a retirement apartment. He had many fine friends there. In accordance with his wishes, Conrad has been cremated. His remains will join Ruth's in a private family gathering. An informal celebration and remembrance of Conrad's life will be held February 6, 1999, 3:00 p.m., at The Grand Court, 300 Valencia, S.E. Friends of Conrad are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember him are encouraged to make contributions to the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation, Volunteer Services, P.O. Box 2666, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87125-6666 or to a charity of choice in Conrad's memory. Conrad lived a long and full life. His gentle, kindly and cheerful manner touched all who knew him. Toward the end, he expressed contentment with his life. In his final days Conrad was embraced by his family and comforted by his caring physicians, Michael Donnellan, M.D. and Kathleen Blake, M.D. We were blessed to know and love him and to learn from him. We are grateful for his constant example of humor and wit, intelligence and wisdom, calmness and serenity, grace and charm, and kindness and caring.

Gilbert -- Dr. Jules Gilbert, age 93, a resident of Albuquerque for 36 years, passed away on February 3, 1999. He is survived by two daughters, Samette Gilbert of Las Cruces, Gayanne Fried of San Jose, CA; one son, Mark Gilbert and wife, Gretchen of El Paso, TX; sisters, Pearl and Lillian of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren, Keri Fitch, Lene Fried, Lisa Gilbert, Adam Fried and Stephanie Walls. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda in 1990. He was a member of Congregation B'Nai Israel. Dr. Gilbert was in private practice for 32 years in Mount Rainier, Maryland. Upon moving to Albuquerque in 1963, he worked for the Federal Government, Bureau of Indian Affairs. He subsequently became assistant Director of Public Health for Bernalillo County. He served on the Inaugural Committee for President John F. Kennedy, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. He received his medical degree from St. Louis University Medical School in 1932. He served his country as a Captain during WWII. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 5, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. with Rabbi Isaac Celnik and Cantor Josh Perlman officiating. Jackson -- Jim Sol Jackson, 50, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, January 31, 1999. He is survived by his family, sons, Sol Jackson and wife, Kim of Denver, CO and Eli Jackson of Dover, DE; daughter, Allie Jackson of Greensboro, NC; brothers, Pat Jackson of Amarillo, TX and Joe Jackson of Amarillo, TX; sisters, Jeanine Hibbert of Nucla, CO and Anne Pryde of Sheridan, WY; and several loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was then an Air Traffic Controller for the A.R.T.C.C. for the past 28 years. Jones -- Quentin Jones, 79, a resident of Belen and formerly of Los Alamos, passed away on February 3, 1999 in an Albuquerque hospital after a long illness. He was the oldest son of Jesse B. and Neva (Phillips) Jones. Quentin was raised in Fort Worth, TX, where he resided until entering the United States Calvary in 1940. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. Quentin was honorably discharged in 1945. He resided in Los Alamos from 1949 until 1986, where he was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Quentin spent his final years of retirement in Belen. Quentin was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Ava Nell in 1985. He is survived by his three children, Thomas Q. Jones and his wife, Betty of Horseshoe Bend, TX, J. Blair Jones and his wife, Jeanne; daughter, Sherry W. Jones and Keith Yeske of Los Alamos. He is also survived by his five loving grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brothers, J. Benard Jones of Seymour, TX, H.T. Jones of West Columbia, TX; and sister, Birla M. Clynch of Waco, TX. Marion -- David C. Marion, 47, a resident of Albuquerque since 1990. He is survived by his children, Abby Marion and Robert Marion both of Albuquerque; sister, Amy Dugan and husband, Michael of Colorado and Mary Tedford and husband, Todd of Colorado; and parents, Michael and Julia Marion. Pino -- Mr. Jose S. Pino, 73, born in Quemado, NM and a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on February 3, 1999. Mr. Pino was the beloved husband of 50 years to Mrs. Mary Pino. He is also survived by one daughter, Geraldine (Geri) Pino-Palacios; one son, Eddie Pino; four grandchildren, Edward Pino Jr., Vince Pino, Ashley Palacios and Stephanie Palacios; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Pino and Jonathan Pino; and many other family members and friends. Joe retired from the City of Albuquerque after 23 years of service. Purcella -- Marie Victoria ("Tiny") Purcella, 55 years. A resident of Albuquerque, passed away on January 30, 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents, Candelaria Martinez and Herminio Martinez; and one sister, Silva Abeyta. She is survived by her husband, Pete Purcella; and two sons, Bobby Purcella, Jerry Purcella and wife, Annadeine; five grandchildren, Robert, Joshua, Tammy, Tanya and Felicia; aunt, Prisca Valencia; step-mother, Petra (Patsy) Martinez; sister, Sandra McAfee; three brothers, Gilbert Botello, Steve Martinez and Lawrence Martinez; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Vicky touched the lives of hundreds of people and will be deeply missed by all. She was employed by the Department of Labor for 25 years until her retirement. She enjoyed going to the local casinos and traveling to Las Vegas with her husband, Pete. Warner -- Tom G. Warner, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Monday, February 1, 1999. He is survived by his brother, Fred B. Warner, Sr. of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, November 16, 1993. Mr. Warner was born November 18, 1911 in Leslie, AR. He lived his early life and adulthood in Little Rock, AR, where he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps Glider Program in 1942. Mr. Warner had a distinguished service record as a glider pilot, with participation in the Belgium Invasion during WWII and later on, landing troops and war equipment ninety miles behind enemy lines in Wessel, Germany. Mr. Warner was awarded the Silver Air Medal, with one oak leaf cluster; the Distinguished Unit Citation Badge; four Bronze Service Stars; and one Bronze Service Arrowhead. He married Alice Louise Williams in June 1943, while he was stationed at Kirtland Field in Albuquerque. Mr. Warner was an official of the New Mexico Interstate Bank at the time of his retirement in June 1974. Graveside services will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale SE. Weaver -- Walter Lee"Walt" Weaver, Jr. 53, born in Columbus, Ohio and longtime resident of San Antonio, Texas and a resident of Albuquerque since 1973 passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3., 1999 in a local hospital. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sandra Weaver; one daughter, Amy Celeste Weaver, graduate student at Notre Dame University; two sons, Derrek Ryan Weaver, law student at Texas Tech, and Dustin Kyle Weaver, freshman at Texas A&M, his father and step-mother, Walter Lee and Florence Weaver, FL and Aussie son, Simon Ogilvie of Australia plus many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Olive Weaver. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He loved his family and his profession and was known as the worlds greatest husband, father and landscape architect. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to share and teach his children and friends how to hunt and fish. He was a history buff and loved the southwest. He was a graduate of Texas A&M, class of 1968. He served as an officer in the US Army. He was instrumental in creating successful businesses relating to the landscaping industry, including Walter Weaver Inc. and Albuquerque Grounds Maintenance, Inc. Walt's courage these past three years in his battle with Cancer was an inspiration to his family and friends. His charm and sense of humor and gorgeous blue eyes, will be greatly missed by his family and numerous loving friends. Yokley -- Nathan Hale Yokley, age 3, son of Alan and Diana Yokley, went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 3, 1999. Born October 22, 1995, he came into this world on his mommy and daddy's first anniversary. He was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at one year of age. He is now free to run and play, laugh and talk, things he couldn't do in his life. He is survived by his parents and sister, Marty of the family home; paternal grandmother, Phyllis Yokley and his maternal grandparents, Bill and Kay Hale, all of Albuquerque; aunt, Karen and uncle, Doug Price; cousin, Megan of Craig, CO; uncle, Andrew Hale and aunt, Wendy; cousins, Zachary and Elyssa of Virginia Beach, VA; great-grandfather, Woody"Big Pappa" Thorp; many great-aunts and uncles; and a host of friends who provided care and support for Nathan.
