Bay -- Anthony Fong Bay, 80, died Wednesday, February 3, 1999. He was a devoted husband and loving father of eight children, four boys and four girls. He is survived by all his children and ten grandchildren. His wife of 39 years, Ancilla, passed away in 1993. Mr. Bay was born in a small farming village in Northern China in 1918, graduated from Beijing University, and became a war correspondent after the Japanese invaded China. He later joined the Nationalist Chinese Army, rose to the rank of Secretary General of the Twentieth Army, and fought against the Japanese in China and Burma during World War II. After the war he came to the United States, where he obtained graduate degrees from the Universities of Tennessee and Wisconsin. He then worked as a civilian for the U.S. Air Force for 27 years. Following his retirement in 1983, he devoted his life to writing, which included short stories, his memoirs, and translating a work on the life of Saint Eugene de Mazenod, founder of the Oblate Order, from English to Chinese. He also helped found the New Mexico Chinese Association and was a devout parishioner of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 9:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 1800 Martha NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and following the Rosary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
