CHAVEZ -- Jerry M. Chavez (50) passed away suddenly on December 28, 2004. He is survived by his sister, Linda Sanchez, of Los Lunas; 2 brothers, Benigno Chavez Jr.and wife Diane of Albuquerque, Paul Chavez and wife Maxine of Albuquerque. He had two nephews, Dylan Chavez of Boston MA and Curtis Chavez of Albuquerque; and two nieces, Crystal Chavez of Hilo, HA and Devin Chavez of Albuquerque. He is survived by his step-daughter, Bernadette Parra. He was also survived by his girlfriend, Delia Sanchez; and his many friends and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Benigno and Frances Chavez of Albuquerque and by his hunting buddy, Mike Chavez. Jerry was born on September 29, 1954 in Belen, NM. He grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from Del Norte High School. He had been employed at Sandia Casino as a MIS Specialist for over 5 years. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He especially enjoyed bow hunting because of the high level of skill required. Because of his skill, there must be many game animals that are sleeping easier tonight. He had many friends that shared his love for the outdoors and they will all treasure their memories of their hunting trips together. Jerry was a hardworking man of many skills and had a sharp sense of humor that will be missed. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 4, at 4:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral home at 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE.

DEVARENNE -- Catherine A. Devarenne, age 74, passed away on January 1, 2005 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born May 22, 1930 to John and Marie (Munari) Anesi. She lived most of her life in Albuquerque. She was very active member in Holy Ghost Church, Good Shepherd Auxiliary, Casa Angelica Auxiliary, Italian Ladies Charity Club, Holy Ghost Altar Rosary Society, Club Culturale Sociale Italiana, Order of Sons of Italy, Resveglio Club, Republican Women's Club, German American Club, Sera Club, and Friends of Italian Culture Club. Survivors include her daughter Maria Devarenne and husband Mark Zaleski of Redlands, CA; two granddaughters, Jordan Marie Zaleski and Jade Michelle Zaleski of Redlands, CA; one aunt, Dutchie Franch of Scottsdale, AZ; three cousins, Mark and Sue McCabe of Acton, CA, Jackie and Stanley Burrows of LaVerne, CA, and Tom Severs of Albuquerque, NM. Visitation will be held form 6:00- 7:00 pm January 4, 2005 in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:00 am January 5, 2005 at Holy Ghost Church, 833 Arizona Street SE, Albuquerque, NM with Fr. Thomas Mayefske and Msg. Fred Stadtmueller officiating. Burial will follow services at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph Marchese, Benny Verdermae,Cesar Chavez, Mark McCabe, Tom Severs, Richard Valdez, Ernie Jaramillo, and Ernie Rodriguez. GURULE -- Leonard, Amos, 53, of Albuquerque went with our Lord, Jesus on December 26, 2004. He was born in Canon De Vallecitos in 1951. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gregorita Maria Gurule. He is survived by his daughter, Angeline Marie Gurule; his uncle, Leo DeVargas and wife Lida of Denver, Co; his sisters, Alice Bailey and husband John, Judy brown and husband Bill, Sadie Ortiz and husband Juan of Albuquerque; brothers, Andy Gurule and wife Jenny of Chili, Bobby Gurule and wife Lillian of El Duende, Levi Gurule and wife Jo Anne of Le Alcalde, Dino Gurule of Santa Fe; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Leonard was always passionate about art and dancing. He loved life and God and had a heart of gold. His heart allowed him to help others when they were in need, without any hesitation. He served his country as a veteran of the US Army and also received a Bachelor's of Fine Arts From the University of New Mexico, with a double in Chicano studies and the Classics. He is loved dearly and will be missed by all. Honorary pallbearers: Lorenzo Chavez, Juan Ortiz, Conrad Tapia, Leroy Chavez, Jonathan Atencio, and David Tafoya. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2005 at Family Worship Center at 5200 Iliff Road in Northwest Albuquerque. Following the services the burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 501 North Guadalupe Street. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 343-8008. I love you dad!

BAMFORTH -- ELIZABETH A. VALLEJOS BAMFORTH of Albuquerque and formerly of Hatch, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 42, December 29, 2004 in Hatch. She was born October 28, 1962 in Las Cruces to Primitivo Sr. and Ramona Padilla Vallejos. Liz will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and strong loving spirit, always putting others before herself. She was a precious gift from God and she will never be forgotten, always holding a place in our hearts. She is survived by her three sons, John Bamforth III, of Clovis and Scott Bamforth and Bryan T. Faifer both of Albuquerque; her parents; two brothers, Primitivo Vallejos, Jr. and wife Jo Beth of Las Cruces and Edward Vallejos and wife Mary of Albuquerque; three sisters, Zenaida Chavez and companion Nelson West of Las Cruces, Rose Lytle and husband Faron of Rincon, Gina Fields and husband Darnell of Hatch; paternal grandmother, Maria Vallejos also of Hatch. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and one special God Child, Savannah Ramona Apodaca. Her husband, John Bamforth, one sister, Mary Elizabeth Vallejos, grandmother, Maria Inez and grandfathers, Alejandro Vallejos and Cornelio Padilla, preceded her in death. Visitation for Elizabeth will begin at 6 PM Sunday, January 2, 2005 in Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church, 117 Hartman in Hatch, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled to begin at 7 PM. Family and friends will join together to Celebrate the Funeral Liturgy at10 AM Monday, January 3, 2005 in the same church with the Reverend Franklin Eichhorst, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Rincon Cemetery where she will be laid to rest in the family plot. Serving as casket bearers will be Edward, Jordan and Primitivo Vallejos, Jr., Faron Lytle and Derrick and Darnell Fields. ORTEGA -- Jesus M. (Marion) Ortega, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on December 27th 2004. Final viewing will be Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Casket bearers will be Charles R. Thomas, Tony Ortega, Filbert Chavez, Eloy J. Ortega, Michael M. Ortega Jr., and Steve Serna. RIBAL -- Maria Dolores Ribal went home to be with the Lord at the age of 93 on December 27, 2004. She was born on December 20, 1911. She is preceded in death by her mother. Maria is survived by her daughters: Angie Chavez, Marcela Parras, Theresa Bajarano, Rita Mason; son, Jesse Chavez. She has 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was a very loving caring person who loved children. Whatever she could do, she would do. Her hands were always extended to everyone. She was a precious treasure that God loaned to us and will be greatly Missed. Her pride and joy was to play with her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Maleah, Amaya, Markie, and little Zion. She loved to tell them stories. Maria loved to read her Bible and drink her coffee. In the Bible she would read John 14: 1-6 where Jesus had many Mansions in Heaven. She talked about going home to be with her Mother. We all knew her by Grand Lola. We love you Grandma Lola and we will surely miss you. Funeral Service will be this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. In the Chapel of Legacy Church, 7201 Central Ave. Burial to follow to Fairview Memorial Park. FLORES-GONZALES -- Irma Flores-Gonzales, age 62, an educational consultant and political activist, died Christmas Eve at UNM Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Angela Fischman. Ms. Gonzales was a friend to Cesar Chavez and advisor to presidents, and was a leader in fighting for Hispanic rights. Her crowning achievements include co-writing NAFTA and establishing the first bilingual college. She also was associated with the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, Mosaica, The Center for Community Change and the National Council of La Raza.
