Holland -- Lela Frances Holland, 73, longtime resident of Mountainair, NM passed away on August 6, 2001 in Mountainair. Lela was born on July 25, 1928 in Tioga, TX to Danel and Annie Lee (Hice) Norvell. Lela was very involved with people, to list out a few of her involvements in her life, Lela was a retired school teacher in Mountainair where she taught Business Education, she sponsored classes, cheerleading. She was very active in First Baptist Church Mountainair, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the Choir, worked in VBS. Lela was a member of The Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, in 1981-1982 she was the first female Mayor of Mountainair, she loved to make crafts, sew, quilt, she had a great passion for bowling, an activity that she enjoyed with her daughters and her grandchildren. Lela will be greatly missed by her family and friends and the community of Mountainair. Lela was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beulah; three brothers, Dudley, Johnny and Ellis Norvell; and her former husband, Joseph Holland. Lela is survived by four daughters, Patricia Holland of Albuquerque, Robin and her husband, Mike Sandler of Albuquerque, JoHelen and her husband, Ken Cason of Magdalena, NM, Betty Ann Holland of Escobosa, NM; two brothers, Cuin Norvell and Sam Houston Norvell; three sisters, Betty Ann Singleton, Molly Neel, Coleen Norvell; ten grandchildren, Shawn, D'Shannon, Holly, Brandy, Tyrel, JoeDon, Dusti, Catlin, Isaac, Richard; and one great-grandchild, Cuin. Services are scheduled for Saturday, August 11, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Mountainair, NM. Bro. Randy Webb, Bro. Don Hayhurst and Bro. Frank Money will be officiating the Service. Burial will follow the Service at the Mountainair Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the general budget of First Baptist Church Mountainair, PO Box 504 Mountainair, NM 87036. Services have been trusted to the care of Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair.

Gonzales -- Rudy R. Gonzales, passed away on Saturday August 4, 2001. He was born in Colonias, N.M. on January 21, 1932. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served two years in Korea where he had the distinction of reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant in under two years, then a record. Upon his discharge, he and his parents, Leonard and Mela M. Gonzales purchased and managed Dee's Bar in Santa Rosa for five years. He then attended the University of New Mexico for 2 years after which he transferred to New Mexico Highlands where he received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1961 followed by a masters degree from the American Institute for foreign trade, Phoenix, Arizona. His employment as International Sale Manager with Emerson Electric gave him the opportunity of traveling to many foreign countries, from the Middle East, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Europe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonardo and Mela Gonzales; two sisters, Pita (Rita) Urban of Artesia, N.M. and Angie Dunn of Indiana; two brothers, Anthony Gonzales of Las Cruces, N.M. and Johnny Gonzales of Santa Rosa, N.M.; 3 nephews, Steven, Ernest, and Gene Gonzales; and a niece, Ida Aguilar. He is survived by two brothers, Leonard Gonzales of Santa Rosa, and Gene Gonzales of Espanola. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August, 8 2001 at 12:30 p.m. at the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 2:00 p.m. The family of Rudy Gonzales has entrusted his arrangements to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley.

Griego -- Juan Jose Griego, 72, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother was called home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 2, 2001 while surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Griego was born in Corrales, NM and was a resident of Corrales; he was a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; a proud Veteran of the United States Army who served his country during World War II; he was a member of the American Legion Post 69. Juan retired from the University of New Mexico South Golf Course after 25 years of loyal service; he enjoyed riding his horses and especially spending time with his family. Mr. Griego is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Oralia Griego of the family home; two daughters, Theresa Montano, Lorraine Armijo and husband Daniel of Alameda; two sons, Adam Griego and wife Rebecca, Patrick Griego; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister Lorretta Oguine. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who loved and knew him. Visitations will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. also in the chapel. Mass of Christian will be celebrated Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with the Reverend Ronald Stone as celebrant. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 69 Honor Guard. Casket bearers will be Willie Casias, Adam Griego, Johnny Montano, Johnathan Montano, Gabriel Griego and Ralph Padilla. Honorary bearer will be Daniel Aramijo. Garcia -- Andy Garcia, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend went to be with our Lord on Wednesday morning August 1, 2001. "He will be greatly missed." Andy was born in Socorro, NM on May 6, 1947. His parents were T.J. and Patsy Serna. His biological father was Mathis Garcia. He spent most of his early years in Socorro and St John, Arizona. He was raised and attended schools in Belen, NM. He was a junior weight boxer in the 1960's, he won several fights and became a golden glove boxer. He then met and married the love of his life, his wife, Nila, and he began working for Bates Lumber Mill as a superintendent for 28 years. He enjoyed working for Mr. Bates until the mill shut down. He then worked for Snavely Forest Producers as a supervisor where he retired after five years because of a serious injury on the job back in 1997. He was a member of the Camino San Martin Catholic Parish, MADD, a volunteer and PTA member for Pajarito Elementary where his granddaughter planned to attended. He was always an involved parent, grandparent, and friend. He is preceded in death by his son, Patrick Garcia. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Nila Garcia; five children, Andy Garcia and his wife, Louise, Julie Garcia, Carla Mora and her husband, Tunney, Shawn Garcia and his wife, Angelica, and Isha Garcia; nine brothers and sisters, Jenny Rodriguez and her husband, Conrad, Mary Ann Cruz and her husband, Roy; Tony Montoya and his wife, Connie, Orlando Montoya, Archie Montoya and his wife, Roseanne, Larry Montoya; Henry Montoya and his wife, Theresa, Johnny Montoya and his wife, Rhonda and Pat Garcia; and daughter-in-law, Victoria Garcia. He is also survived by 13 wonderful and caring grandchildren; his close loving friend who he considered to be his sister, Dr. Vicky Lester. He also cherished Jim, Andrea, Jaime and Eric Lester." I do not need a special day to bring you to my mind, everyday is a special day and you're easy to find. Each morning when I awake, I know that you are gone; and no one knows the pain in my heart to just carry on. My heart still aches with sadness, and many tears will flow; what it's meant to lose you no one will ever know. My thought's are always with you, your place no one will fill; in life I love you dearly, in death I love you still. Benjamin -- Glen Edward Benjamin, 84, a resident of New Mexico since 1958, died Monday, July 30, 2001. He is survived by his sons, Johnny Ray Benjamin and William M. (Bill) Benjamin, both of Aztec, NM; daughters, Marilyn (Suzie) Cobb and husband, Jerry and Margaret A. (Peggy) Doran and husband, John, all of Albuquerque; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Miller and husband, Frank and Jo Ella Phares and husband, Paul; and brother, Charles Benjamin, all of Garnett, KS. Mr. Benjamin was preceded in death by his son, Glennard Lee Benjamin. He worked as a plumber and a plumbing contractor. Mr. Benjamin was a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. for 60 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII in the South Pacific and Japan aboard the U.S.S. Melette. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Gallegos -- Dick A. Gallegos, 79, died Monday, July 23, 2001 at his home in Socorro, NM. He was born August 26, 1921 to Andres and Libradita (Gonzales) Gallegos in Tokay, NM. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Viola Gallegos; brothers, Santiago, Tony, Andres Jr. and Johnny; and sister, Pauline Garcia. Sanchez -- Mr. Joe Nieves (Snowy) Sanchez, 81, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on July 24, 2001. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Dora Sanchez and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Mr. Sanchez was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He fought in the Pacific. He was a member of the D.A.V. Cutting-Garcia Chapter # 3. He made his home with Johnny and Charlotte Ronquillo. A Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with viewing after 6:30 p.m. Gabriella Nieto, reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW with final viewing at the church after 9:30 a.m. Father Daniel Balizan, Celebrant.
